It’s Nelson deja vu all over again.

With his return to the State Legislature, apparently, so too have Stace Nelson attacks against Republicans re-emerged:

I’m not sure what to wait for next; Robocalls, postcards, or an announcement he’s running for something.

  1. Love Yogi Berra Pat. Really love these.

“If people don’t want to come out to the ball park, nobody’s gonna stop ’em.”

“You can observe alot by just watching.”

    “Pair up in threes.”

  2. Stace needs to show us where in the SDGOP platform there is any opposition to raising user fees

    1. If user fees don’t cover the costs then taxes have to cover the difference… I would rather have the user of service pay for the service than everyone else…

    2. It is disingenuous to conflate user fees with taxes and Sen. Nelson so often does…

      1. Wrong. User fees are optional. If you don’t want to pay for a campsite, you don’t have to go camping. If you don’t want to pay for a hunting license, you don’t have to go hunting. Fees are optional, taxes are mandatory.

        1. If you don’t want to pay property taxes, rent. If you don’t want to pay gas taxes, walk…..If you don’t want to pay taxes on food, grow a garden. If you don’t want to pay taxes on phone or cable tax, don’t purchase them….cigarette tax, don’t smoke……alcohol tax, don’t drink…….hotel tax, don’t stay in one.

  3. Only Democrats have a hard time understanding that a “fee” it’s still a tax by any other name.

    1. Is college tuition a tax or a user fee?

Is the cost a driver’s license a tax or a user fee?

Is the cost of taking the tests required to be a realtor, insurance agent, etc. a tax or a user fee?

This Republican wants to know the above answers.

Because what I do know is if user fees don’t cover the cost of the program, the rest is just another form of redistribution which is definitely against the Republican platform.

      1. You left out state parks. I use state parks a lot. It is a good thing for state parks to be in SD, so it makes sense they be supported to some degree with taxes. However, people who use the parks the most should pay the most for using them. I also like quality in the state parks and if a user fee is what it takes, so be it.

    2. If the revenue from the fee is diverted to another area of the budget, sure, you’d be correct. If the fee is used to offset the cost of service provided then it is not a tax… If you have an example of how a particular fee is outsized in SoDak just so that it can fund some other unrelated portion of government please provide said example…

  4. According to Stace just about all the SD Republicans are really Democrats. How are we able to tell the difference? Secret handshake? Semper Hi?

  5. Stace wrote quite the self-congratulatory op-ed in the Argus today calling the repeal of IM-22 a “dark day”. He and Rick Weiland are perfect for each other- so bitter about their inability to even be competitive in a statewide race.

  6. Stace was on here for years calling everyone else in the state RINO’s… Isn’t it funny that Stace has become the biggest RINO of all… I think he’s voted with the dems more this year than he has with the republicans… He has no idea what he’s doing, he just loves to be the drama queen!

  7. Let me get this straight? Nelson is on social media posting and getting printed in newspapers and the real Republicans are on here posting anonymously complaining about him?

    Seriously?

    1. getting printed that he is a fool is not an accomplishment

What is one significant piece of legislation he has ever passed? he is toxic

  8. Stace is the biggest fake in Pierre with lance a close second. They puff themselves up, vote with the democrats and then call people rinos…fake marine, fake republican

  9. Mr. Nelson is one of the few people who might benefit from French Math lessons from Mr. H, who often does bad math and doesn’t understand they way things really work. Mr. Nelson doesn’t understand the way things really work. He’s just blowing hard.

  10. It has been said that reality is for those who can’t handle drugs and that it takes a clear mind to make it.
In all honesty this situation appears to be a case of a misdiagnosed chemical imbalance. And I say this with great concern knowing that those who never take a step back always fall off the cliff someday.

      1. I’m home loading hay 100% impressed with the two people the Smart people of District 23 elected to the SD House of Reps totally enjoying not being part of the Circus again in Pierre and someone is trying to undermine my happiness. Tsk tsk tsk LMAO

  11. The SD republican party has abandoned the practice of small government that stays out of our daily lives. That is why guys like Nelson get elected; because of the general disgust in the status quo.

I miss the Janklow cutting property tax days.

  12. What if instead of sales taxes we had fees on everything that is subject to sales tax currently. We would have to raise those fees every year on everything to make up for inflation. Oh could you imagine the howling!
Yet people pay more every year in increased sales taxes and yet say nothing….
