Kennedy Noem departing Pierre to continue her education.

Governor Noem apparently lost one of her most valued advisors today, as Kennedy Noem spent her last day at the State Capital, announced this evening that she’s moving to Tennessee in a few weeks to pursue her MBA:

Congratulations to Kennedy!

  1. Congratulations & Godspeed, Kennedy. Thank you for your service for South Dakota.

  2. Good move on Kennedy’s part. She could have hung on and worked for six more years in the Gov’s office. But good for her to blaze her own path for a while.

  3. heck, with an advanced degree she could pull a six figure salary in mommy’s office if she wraps it up before Noem is walloped in 2022!

    1. So you think South Dakota is going to go to the Dark Side in 2022, Platy-Puss?

  4. I’ve never been a big fan of hiring family members to work in the “family” business. Nevertheless, Kennedy knew that she would be highly scrutinized and held to an even higher standard than others in the administration. Bottom line, she excelled at her position and never gave the naysayers a chance to second guess her work.

  5. One has to ask oneself. What difference she made in the created position of public service to South Dakota citizens. An will position be refilled

  6. A good measure of any person is the mettle of their children. The pressure of being a Governors child must be intense and working for a parent Governor almost unbearable. SM constantly hammers Trump on his and to a lesser degree Gov Noem’s. Who does a parent, especially a Mom, know the best on Earth? Their own child! That said DD was hammered on having his son work for him and then his SIL becoming COS. Interesting knowing now that same DD COS was also picked by the subsequent Governor to come in as COS too. Must have been a perfect match for the job at hand for both.

  7. Charles. They bring that pressure on to them selfs when they take the job. I feel it wrong Trump put his relatives in position they in. An I voted for him. It bad enough in private sector when members of family work in company. It much worse in government jobs. S. Dakota just can’t seem to pass law banning it. Even prohibited in most large corporations. In most government jobs one can just “hide” An roll along. One has to remember being to far right is as bad as too far left of center. An that is where government should be

  8. As one who worked for a Governor for his entire term, you come to realize being Governor has many different responsibilities.

    1) It is mostly administrative as State Government is a big operation with literally thousands of decisions made in each department. And, often these departments have missions in conflict with the mission of other departments. Thus, in order not to be always working at cross purposes, running state government requires consistent communication of priorities from the top down and brewing issues from bottom up.

    2) It is strategic with regard to the long-term goals of the State which often aren’t felt until the Governor’s term is over. This requires input, work and feedback from a new set of eyes and ears inside and outside state government.

    3) It is political (not meaning partisan but with regard to knowing when to lead the people and when to respond to the people).

And, to do the above, I’ve come to believe it requires one thing more than any other: Roughly 10 people inside state government and 10 people outside government from whom the Governor can gather information outside of normal channels and trust without question. If Kennedy was one of those 20 people, we have all been well served by her service and most grateful.

  9. Troy. With all that An you finish with “IF”Kennedy was one of the 20. In reality it was cushy job handed to someone with zero experiance. At a cost of aprox $90,000 total plus perks. South Dakota is short of funds. Can’t even maintain its roads. Keep up with pot hole patching. Has a lot of other needs. Then throw $53,000 into the mix for hiring some one for First Gentlemens intuitive to promote living in South Dakota small towns. First you need staple well paying jobs. An they just not here in South Dakota. Trying to take Minnesota firms likely won’t pan out well. For 3-4 years Mr. Musk has been looking for state for new plants. South Dakota sat on their collective backsides An never made a move or attempt. That shame on both party’s in the state that claim we working for our citizens. Attempting An being declined is at least effort. No attempt is borderline reason for dismissal. You can’t use we don’t have the people. People will move in for good staple hi paying jobs. That proven fact. I believe South Dakota didn’t make attempt as god forbid we may get a few democrats in an upset our power balance republicans enjoy. An at same time shame on democrat party for not reaching out on their own as well. We need to start riding a neutral political stance. It is about WE THE PEOPLE.

    1. Billy,

      1) I said “if” because I don’t know for sure because I wasn’t there. You don’t know either. However, because she has been in the middle of important things, there is evidence she was in that group.

      2) It will be a lot more likely we’ll take jobs from Minnesota than California because of proximity, especially considering Walz is probably the nicest idiot running a state in the nation. Blunder after blunder but being likable keeps him from getting run out of the state.

      3) We had no chance of getting Musk’s plant because of concentration. Unlike private companies, public companies would have to report their dependence on a labor force in which they dominated the industry and skill set. Zero chance of being considered.

Part of the reason there is no opposition party is the Dems can’t seem to talk issues with depth and knowledge. Instead they speculate about those in office such they sound like a conspiracy theorists living in a basement with a tin hat.
