Lee Qualm relying on massage therapists to defend his anti-vaxxer position

Just saw this pop up on facebook, and had to go to the Internet to look this designation up:

So, after taking a barrage of criticism over House Bill 1235, this past session’s measure to let the unvaccinated run free in schools and which wanted to make requiring vaccinations a class one misdemeanor for employers, Lee Qualm is thanking several medical …professionals for their support on the measure.

I’ll probably make some people upset by my saying so, but, is he seriously cheering on anti-vaxxer letters to the editor in support of his awful bill from LMT’s… as in Licensed Massage Therapists?

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I think they do a nice job working the kinks out of something you might have strained. But as far as advice on preventable childhood diseases, epidemiology, viral infection, etc. from Licensed Massage Therapists?

I think that’s more than a little bit out of their area of expertise.

Update… okay, I read this a bit closer, and they discussed our freedom of “baring arms.”  I don’t think that helps their case, unless they’re advocating for a land of sleeveless people.

  1. And it wasn’t an “anti vax Bill”. But saying that promoting vaccines is along the lines of abortion….wow. And posting that letter to your senate page.

  2. Wow, is Rep. Qualm going to continue down this warped road having placed his reputation on the shoulders of these anti-vaxxers? Wouldn’t you think he’d want to side with the actual medical professionals instead of the often minimally trained massage therapists? Hmmmmm, I think I know where I’d land. But hey, JFM is in his camp too so it must all be good, right? WRONG! I have a feeling that this whole fiasco give Lee a bad case of the loser-itist and Pat, there ain’t no vaccine for that!

  3. Spose we have the right to bear arms and bare arms technically. Qualm is a joke.

  4. The letter also contains the misinformation that vaccines contain the cells of aborted babies.
The rubella vaccine was made from cell LINES developed from two children who were killed around 1960 and became tissue donors. None of the cells in today’s vaccines were ever in somebody else’s body, the cells were grown in a lab.
Additionally, there is no rational moral objection to homicide victims being organ and tissue donors. None. (I had a bone graft with some dental work; it never occurred to me to ask how the donor died.)

In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic causing an uptick in anti-vaccine conspiracy theories, involving Bill Gates, mandatory vaccinations and implanted Microchip tracking devices, hopefully there will be enough sane people who will ignore them.

    1. Perhaps if the current POTUS didn’t push conspiracy theories every time it was convenient for him to do so, you might find more people in the GOP willing to exercise their brains when it comes to these sorts of claims. This is a predictable outcome.

      1. Anonymous at 12:96: WHAT conspiracy theories? You mean when he called the Russian collusion story a hoax?

  5. Birtherism. Ted Cruz’ dad helped kill JFK. Scalia may have been murdered. Anecdotes about vaccines and autism. Jersey muslims cheering 9/11. Windmills and cancer. Global warming was created by the chinese to attack american manufacturing. Rubio ineligible to run for president. Fox news owned and run by Saudis (he loves them now, though!) . Grab em by the privates tape was created and was not me (after he already admitted it was).

Would you like me to keep going? The point is: when the face of the party doesn’t need evidence to make claims, why act surprised when other members follow suit?

      1. Of course I am saying he wasn’t murdered. Please, come on out and describe the conspiracy you have so I can QED to Anne Beal.

        1. It was the last year of Obama’s presidency, and Five Eyes intel agents wanted him to appoint a justice who’d violate our Fourth Amendment right to be secure against their warrantless seizures of our personal communications.

I’ve never seen “QED” used as a verb, and I’m not sure what you’re trying to say about Anne Beal.

          1. Anne: QED. This is what happens when a President who has no evidence makes accusations to get what he wants. You can call such conspiracy theorists nutters and act like they are not a big part of the GOP, but you have better believe they are growing in number and becoming more emboldened by the current boss.

            Keep America Great, I guess.

  6. I saw a video on Facebook of House Majority Whip Jon Hansen endorsing Lee Qualm. It was posted yesterday afternoon (May 20th).

  7. I’m surprised that Qualm isn’t getting support from the Governor. He’s carried a lot of water for her. If she isn’t supporting him as an ally who is she going to support?
