    1. Ha, that’s funny. You say Trainwreckparty even though they continue to grow. I would think a train wreck of a party would go down in numbers, no?

          1. More than 4,000 South Dakotans supported the Constitution Party candidate for president in 2016, and nearly 21,000 of us supported the Libertarian. These numbers have increased exponentially in recent years, largely because the Republican Party is gradually ceasing to stand for anything besides self-promotion.

            1. Let’s see how they do in a non presidential year before you crow so much about your inability to win ANY RACE EVER!

              #wasteoftimeparties

              1. You mean a non-presidential year like 2014, when more than 13,600 South Dakotans supported Libertarian Ken Santema over both major-party candidates for state treasurer, and more than 53,800 South Dakotans supported Libertarian John English over the Republican candidate for lands commissioner.

For comparison, the Democrats’ nominee for governor got 25% of the vote in 2014, and English got 24%.

Alternative-party candidates have won hundreds of local elections. No new party ever wins a major election … until it does.

    1. More like Mistake made—mistake pointed out to mistake makers; mistake admitted after having it pointed out to them…good to take personal responsibility though.

      1. If the members of a party wanted to nominate their candidates by a plurality of the votes cast rather than a majority, why would that be any of the government’s business? Yet another unnecessary and stupid law.

    2. Why can’t all political parties own up to mistakes that are made?! Seriously, when was the last time someone owned up to it?, give them a chance to run the 2 candidates with the most votes and have them get selected at a second convention

  1. It doesn’t look like there’s anything in state law that limits a party to having only convention to nominate candidates.

  2. So if CJ did NOT get 50% +1 then does he not have the nomination?

What was the vote count? If party reconvenes do new members who did not vote get to vote now?

    What a mess

  3. Libertarians should just merge with the Constitutional Party. They may have a slightly better chance.

      1. nothing says the .41% like Libertarians and Constitution Party ….not quite the 1%ers

        1. More than 24,900 South Dakotans supported those parties’ presidential candidates in 2016. That’s 6.73% and rising, and your condescending mockery probably advances our cause in the long run.

          1. Think of it as the two big political parties have their share of nuts. Some of those nuts fall into the baskets of the Libertarian and Constitutional parties along with those who avoid taking responsibility for their actions. Politically entertaining but never amount to much.

            1. Some members of the major parties “avoid taking responsibility” for actions that drive honorable people away. You appear to be one of them.

  4. I’ve actually been impressed with the Libertarians this year. Abernathy’s of course a setback for the party, but putting up candidates like Aylward and Oaks who can actually present a clear message is nice to see. With Russell running for two seats, it will be interesting to see what comes out of district 30.

    1. Reprehensible another career politician running for 2 seats at once…I thought we had a law against that!
