Lincoln County GOP Sheriff Candidate Forum, Thursday, May 17th, 6:00 pm Tea Pizza Ranch

From my mailbox…

After 20 years of service, (Lincoln County) Sheriff Dennis Johnson will be retiring at the end of the year; and there is great interest in meeting the Republican candidates who want to replace him. We have all three candidates firmly committed, and Sheriff Johnson will be joining us as well.

The media and public are cordially invited to join us on Thursday, May 17th, 6 pm, at the Tea Pizza Ranch for a moderated forum via written questions submitted with timed answers. Our moderator is Justin Smith, attorney at law.

  1. I have heard States Attorney Wollman has endorsed one of them…does anyone know which one?

      1. Also, the 62 South Dakota sheriff’s supporting Jackley is a joke. As AG, I Jackley is in charge of grants, law enforcement training, and civil asset forfeiture. F a sheriff, police chief, or any department, don’t “play ball” they will be penalized by their employees not getting to attend training, forfeiture money not going to their department, and grants being denied.

        1. Who are the 4 sheriffs not supporting Jackley? Or has anyone seen a list of the ones that do?

        2. “Also, the 62 South Dakota sheriffs supporting Jackley is a joke. As AG, Jackley is in charge of grants, law enforcement training, and civil asset forfeiture.”

I was wondering whether anyone was going to bring this up. Jackley has basically acquired the support of law enforcement through the distribution of taxpayer-funded public resources.

When agents of government are allowed to select their own leaders, they eventually become less efficient and much less accountable to those they’re supposed to be serving. That applies to the governor, the county sheriff, and the director of the CIA.

      2. Wollman and Swenson were each going through divorces about 4-6 years ago. They shared a residence as roommates during that time. Swenson has quite a history of problems. Don’t let the nice signs and big smile fool you. Wollman is running his campaign and paying for it too.

    1. I agree.

I support the candidate for AG that Wollman supports. If that is Justin Smith then I will vote for him. Smith is a good guy.

  2. Wollman is supporting swenson. I wonder if any of these three candidates are willing to show us their personnel files or at least their disciplinary records? I think that is all we would need to see to make a decision as to which candidate
    is worthy of our vote.

  3. All three are nice guys but only Jason Gearman has the experience of actually working in a sheriff’s department and the knowledge of all that entails. From the law enforcement piece, warrants, the Civil process and what it takes to run a large jail. From that standpoint there is really only one clear choice if Lincoln County values actual experience and knowledge in this role.
