Lora Hubbel raised $100 for her campaign. That’s not $100k, but $100. I’m not sure what more you say about that.

Interestingly, Hubbel is claiming she didn’t spend anything, despite procuring a web domain, and having someone put up a website for her.  But that’s pretty minor in comparison to the fact a candidate for Governor is claiming she only raised $100 total in all of 2017.

  2. No I didn’t. She’s going after the votes instead of the money. Why spend a million dollars for a hundred thousand dollar job? It makes no sense to me. She won’t have to answer to the big money doners. She can’t be bought.

  3. I see that she received 21 thousand dollars in donates when she ran in a primary against Daugaard in 2014. Not bad.

  4. Pat, I don’t know why you keep commenting on Hubble. You are basically the only press (if you don’t mind me using that term) she gets. She is not going to garner many votes so you are basically wasting your time. Just my opinion.

    1. I think it’s kinda entertaining like the video of the dog with it’s head stuck in a waste basket. Entertaining an harmless with no impact on your life whatsoever.

    4. I used to think that, not anymore. The more reporting on the lunatic fringe that gives real Republicans a bad name, the better. Conspiracy mongering, rumor-planting and outright lying can’t survive the light of day. Demagogues only succeed by whispering in the ears of those they think are gullible enough to believe. Having their falsehoods broadcast far and wide exposes their lust for notoriety through fear to the masses.

    I agree with you. When the stupid and crazy of their ideas aren’t exposed, they get “credit” for fighting “The Man” or “The System” or “The Establishment” which isn’t necessarily bad but doing so with crazy stupid lies actually helps “The Man.”

    The following from Pope Francis I think is what Hickey was referencing to Lora’s abuse of Scripture to promote the objectification of women.

    As Pope Francis said (which has always been Church teaching drawn from the the 8th Commandment) about such fake and dishonest information:

    * “snake tactics” and “disguise themselves in order to strike at any time and place.”

    * “crafty serpent,” who, according to the Bible, “at the dawn of humanity, created the first fake news” which “began the tragic history of human sin.”

    * Fake news is from “skilled ‘Father of Lies,'” a “sly and dangerous form of seduction that worms its way into the heart with false and alluring arguments.”

    *”Even a seemingly slight distortion of the truth can have dangerous effects” because it mimics, grabbing attention and “by appealing to stereotypes and common social prejudices, and exploiting instantaneous emotions like anxiety, contempt, anger and frustration.”

    *”Untrue stories can spread so quickly that even authoritative denials fail to contain the damage. The tragedy of disinformation is that it discredits others, presenting them as enemies, to the point of demonizing them and fomenting conflict. Fake news is a sign of intolerant and hypersensitive attitudes, and leads only to the spread of arrogance and hatred.”

    Incidentally, the Pope went after the abusive anonymous speech when he said media companies should verify personal identities “concealed behind millions of digital profiles.”

    1. It’s called critical thinking and discerning. I watch all news channels, read several different news sources, and then come up with my own conclusion. You can’t trust one news source because many of them are fake news. You have to be open-minded, research, and ask a lot of questions. Tapio and Hubbel are getting a bad rap, especially from the lame stream liberal media and liberal Republicans.

  9. Agree that he should post these – I don’t think it gives weight to the campaign, I think it shines a light on some of the nonsense.

    The problem is not actually Lora. No rational person with an interest in this race thinks she will actually win. (at least I hope that is the case… but perhaps not)
    But – the problem is not the Lora’s of the world. The problem is their followers and following it causes. The devoted comments of “Somebody has to do about the

    It’s incredibly dangerous for the long-term health of the Republican Party. The Jensen-Hubbel-Stace-Olson-Tapio-Etc-Etc version of the Republicans will do more harm to the growth of the party than any Democrat could ever do. In a lot of cases they already look like the fringe, and to the majority of any demographic under the age of 40… the complete lack of civility from this end of the party – should and will cost votes. It’s already making primary decisions. It’s already hurting candidates. Good people, who want to and would do great work for the people of this state have ZERO interest in being involved because they have to go through a mailing cycle of being compared to Bin Laden, Obama, claims of wife beating, claims of wanting to kill babies, claims of being happy about violent crime, claims of murder(?!), claims of stealing money… Who needs that in their life? It’s FAR beyond the normal political posturing that should be expected in an election.
    Nobody wrestles an alligator without a crowd. Some of these people would probably be doing less of this hateful nonsense if it wasn’t backed up by an insane amount of support through blogs and social media.

    I’m rambling here – but back to the point. I do believe these people do want the best for the state. I do think, that in the end, they are great people. If I were to see them across the room and said hello – they would be nice and caring – and that has actually happened on several occasions. Some of these supporters are family and friends who I love dearly. But the online persona and the hatred frenzy they cause in others is incredibly dangerous… It’s easy to just call them lunatics or be mean online or in an email. AND – I do recognize that they have a voice, and their voice matters just as much as the next voice. But good people who care – who want to help improve this state – regardless of political ideology – stay away because of these people. It’s a bummer.

    I’m glad Pat is posting these. I hope he keeps it up.

  11. Young Ms. Hubbel is the insanest of them all. It is sick and sad that some people are attracted to pretty young crazy women, and support them across the internets. What ever happened to Bosworth, she seemed really, really rational when you look at Lora through the same snorkle goggles.

  12. I’d have given the young lady $101 just to eat breakfast with me, but she wanted to wear sweat pants and have the breakfasting at some diner east river. She can’t get votes that way.
