From the Capital Journal, some of the technical aspects of the jury selection, including a Rounds relative who began the day as part of the Jury Pool. It’s a great article – go read it.:
The 34-member pool happened to include a sister-in-law of Sen. Mike Rounds, who beat Bosworth and several other fellow Republicans in last June’s primary election. Bosworth and her supporters have blamed her prosecution on political ill-will fromSen. Rounds, formerly the governor, and Attorney General Marty Jackley, toward her and her husband.

Van Norman also probed potential jurors about the effect of what he said was an unusual amount of pre-trial publicity, including a front page story Monday in the Capital Journal.
“I’ve had murder trials that had less publicity than this case,” Van Norman said.

Prosecutor Mayer asked potential jurors if any had received “robo-calls,” or automated telephone calls, from Bosworth supporters seeking donations or other support in the case.
and…The pool of 34 also included, interestingly, the head of the state association of trial lawyers, one of three or more attorneys in the pool. Facing several questions from Van Norman, the woman said she could give Bosworth a fair trial.
If Bosworth’s attorney says that he’s had murder trials with less publicity, I think that’s something he should address with his client.
I suspect many would have been quite content to not have heard about the circus that wouldn’t leave town repeatedly over the past year.

Hey maybe a Rounds relative on the jury will be grounds for a retrial and we’ll get to do this all over again at double the cost to tax payers. Good grief, how could they sit a Rounds relative on this jury?
If you read the story, there’s no indication that she was included in the later groups.
You are correct. Just because a person is part of the pool doesn’t mean she/he will be part of the firnal jury panel.

I guess maybe reading the story before commenting might be wise. But even then, if one didn’t read the full story, the above was sufficient to discern this was just the jury pool selection and not final jury.
Jury pool selection is wholly random from the voter registration rolls. There is no other criteria. Period. Which is why there are 34 people in the pool to allow the elimination of potential conflicts or appearance of conflicts like being Senator Rounds sister-in-law. I’ve heard of situations where relatives of the parties or their lawyers have shown up on the jury pool list which is likely to occur especially in smaller communities.
Troy is a perfect person. That’s what I read in the above. He is the standard by which all is measured.
That said, I’m in a hurry these days and perhaps I read the post about the selection being completed yesterday – more women than men- and read that into this post. My bad.

Given the size of the Rounds family there is pribabably no more than 2 degrees of separation between Mike Rounds and every other person in Hughes County
Anne, if you include all the puppies Don Rounds gave away and their progeny, the degree of separation may actually go down to sub-decimal numbers.
