New Kristi Noem Commercial on air – Billie Sutton: Anything, but independent

The Noem for Governor campaign is out speaking the truth today.

And I suspect it’s nothing the Sutton for Governor campaign wants to hear.

  1. As Marty Jackley has experienced the Kristi Noem very negative misleading attacks she is known for are now starting to ramp up.

      1. First, the background music is very sinister with an out-to-get-me tone. Then, we see Billie’s face next to the words income tax. And, the connection to Hillary is just dreadful. This ad leaves uninformed voters with a bad taste for Sutton. Soros will hopefully step up his game for Sutton, he needs it. Ugh! Come on Billie.

          1. Don’t be fooled. A little time and effort is all it takes in finding if there’s truth to your statement.

  2. Desperation already setting in for a legislator who voted to accept the Obama stimulus package for South Dakota!

  3. Anyone else think this is a terrible, and awkwardly negative, spot?

It did not resonate well with this independent-

    1. Yep! Would love to have Kristi explain if she were finally able to pay off that dreadful death tax.

    2. Ag producers and those that depend on them are taking it in the chin too thanks to Kristi’s part and inaction. Only going to get worse.

  4. A campaign doesn’t go negative unless it’s nervous. She must be seeing something in the polling she doesn’t like.

In the meantime Kristi still serves in congress. What is she doing to end the trade war and thus eliminate tariffs on American farm products? Either she’s doing something, or she’s doing nothing.

  5. This is a great ad. While Billie has a heartwarming personal story, that doesn’t translate into being and effective chief executive for South Dakota. He’s a 34 year old with no executive experience to speak of.

What major pieces of legislation has Billie sponsored in Pierre? Kristi is the better choice to lead our state.

    1. And how about his choice for lt gov? What does she offer us? Noticeably not much, mostly lies about how liberating abortion can be.

  6. What happened to Jackley? You never hear a word out of him now that he’s out of politics. Nice.

  7. This isn’t terribly negative. It’s all factual. And it doesn’t mean Kristi’s polling shows her in trouble. But Billie’s ads don’t even say he’s a Democrat. He’s a likable guy with a good story and, if he has his way, that’s all the voters will know about him. And then he could win. But it’s not negative for Kristi to tell people accurate information about Billie’s record. It would be a disservice to the voters if they were never told any of this.

  8. If it were me at this point, I would have left off the last statement about being more like Hillary Clinton than you think. Otherwise it was all just fact.

    1. He and his wife supported her at one of Hillarys conventions. So I would dare to say he supports what Hillary supported..

  9. Are we all snowflakes? Do you think Billie can’t handle this? If so, he needs to stay where he is because a snowflake will collapse the first day he is office.

These are all factual (and if not, let’s hear what is untrue). Billie has been spending all his money telling us he is a great guy (which I hear is true). But there are literally thousands of great guys whose ideas on governing make them unfit to be Governor.

What are the policy priorities he will pursue? He isn’t telling us so Noem is.

  10. Typical big Washington negativity. Sutton has been running a very nice campaign and I think folks are sick of so much negativity. We heard enough big-money Washington type crap during the primary with Jackley.

    1. Just because you run a “nice” campaign still doesnt make you qualified. Sutton has nothing to stand on. No one knows where he stands on issues.. oh, except for our poor underpaid teachers. He did give them the ability the claim a sense of victimhood. Another supressed group. Go Billie!

      1. Are you serious? Kristi, weak on accomplishments & policy? She’s accomplished more than any congressman from this state and did more in one year in our state legislature than Billy has in 8 years. He’s had NO real accomplishments and zero in policy. Do your research. This is a real job, an important job and we don’t need a ‘kid’ who has done little to nothing take on something this important.

  11. If this ad is so negative in showing what has been documented in the press and the Dems own news releases, than Sutton must have very negative ideas. Those were Sutton’s proposals and bills he supported. That is Sutton. If you think what he stands for is negative, don’t vote for the guy. If you like what he is shown to be for in all these documented clips, then vote for him.

Ads are not negative just because you don’t like them. They are negative when they are false or are personal attacks. Any candidates and their supporters should be able to stand on his/her record, and not complain when it is brought out.

  12. I am glad she is bringing out the fact that Mr. Sutton is much like Hillary. I remember during the presidential campaign he said he supports everything Hillary stands for…that is enough for me!! I am sure Mr. Sutton is a very nice young man and I wish him well but until the Democrats distance themselves from people like the Clintons, they are going to struggle as a party.

  13. A bit odd for her to go negative this early. Polls could be tighter than expected.

Billie Sutton has a good story and is very nice. I have two problems with his candidacy. First is that he’s a bit young to be Governor in my opinion. Eight years in the State Senate does not automatically qualify anyone to be Governor — that experience plus a couple decades or more of adult experience would make me feel better about him. He’s a little young. Second issue would be the group of liberals he’d bring in to run state government.

    1. That last point really worries me too. Who will Billie surround himself with? If his campaign is any barometer, it is a bunch of liberals who will influence him in that direction. Billie can act like he is a moderate, middle-of-the-road, bipartisan guy, but we have no reason to expect him to have a team that mirrors that.

He would almost be wise to do what Trump did in 2016 on federal judges – start to tell us now who would be on his team. Who is chief of staff? Economic Development director? Secretary of Ag? Education?

All we know so far is Michelle Lavallee for Lt. Governor, and that is a knock against him in my opinion.

      1. judges…good point…as the governor appoints judges in the state also…do we need liberal judges at the state level? NO!

  14. I realize that Dems still talk about Hoover, but with just reason. But just how much longer are Republicans going to talk about ObamaCare and Hillary?

They should produce ‘Back to the Future IV,’ where its the year 2068 and the Republicans are still talking about OC and H…. 😉

  15. Daugaard’s $128M tax and mediciaid expansion plans…..and Sutton takes a lump on the head. Priceless.

    1. I thought that was priceless. How can Kristi pin this on Billie when the super majority voted for the tax increase? Laughable. Her misleading ads over the years have turned me away from voting for her. Just one of the reasons I voted for Marty.

  16. Hollenbeck, how is this negative? Everything in it is true! Sutton is trying to portray himself as an outsider and a non politician? He is far from it. He says he is different and will change the way things are done? Then why did he have Max Sandlin speak for him at his campaign announcement? Sandlin is a DC lobbyist! Why does he say he is pro life and then attend a fundraiser at a PP workers home? Why did he choose a female, republican woman as a running mate? These are all political decisions made by a politician. Where do you think the money came from that was donated to Sutton from Tim Johnson for SD? Its left over DC money from Johnson campaign! Do you really think that Sutton will owe nobody favors if he is elected? He says that Noem needs to show up for debates? I remember when Sutton first run for state office, he did not come to the first debate. HE SENT HIS MOM!? She sat on the panel and answered questions. You really want to know how Sutton would govern? “I am proud to join my fellow legislators in endorsing Hillary Clinton for President. Secretary Clinton has shown she has the same values as families in rural. Hillary is the most qualified person running for President. I couldn’t be more thrilled to support her campaign” Billie Sutton. Not only is Hillary NOT “in touch” with a great majority of South Dakotan’s, neither is Sutton, if he really feels the way that is expressed in his own words!

  17. If Sutton thinks that Hillary has the same values as families in rural America, he apparently shared those values? Again, these are his words and he needs to own them.

  18. Billie and daugaard have the same agenda, except Billie did not ask trump to withdraw from the presidential race.

    1. Every now and then I get reminded some people post anonymously so they can either not be discovered a fool or a charlatan. Thanks for the reminder.

    1. That’s what they said the Dems felt about Obama at about election time (complacency, denial) but they showed up…

  19. Michael,

Governor Mickelson often gave this in some form or another in speeches and staff pep talks:

The world is run by those who show up. Who runs the PTA, the parents who show up. Who runs your kids softball team, the parent who coaches. Who runs your Rotary Club, the people who show up. Who runs your congregation, the people who show up. Government is run by those who show up and vote.

Every time I hear a Democrat say “It will be a blue wave because people will want to vote against Trump” I laugh. When I hear people like John say this Kavanaugh /Ford deal will increase GOP turnout, I laugh.

There are always things going on that drive and suppress Democrat votes, drive and suppress Republican votes, drive and suppress Independent votes. The reason I laugh is nobody really knows which will be the most significant and resulting in the net benefit to which side.

So I go back to what Mickelson said and I show up to vote, I ask those around me to show up and vote. And, then I wait for the results.

  20. Nobody really knows what will happen in November, but denial doesn’t do anyone any good — except possibly for Democrats, whose odds are increased by Republican complacency.

    So don’t be complacent.

VOTE! Contribute to your candidates, volunteer for their campaigns and VOTE!
