Next time ask Kristi

Politico is running a very interesting story about the “unhelpful advice” President Obama recently gave a farmer in Illinois about the EPA and dust regulations.

The story covers the lengthy process a farmer would typically have to go through to get an answer from the bureaucracy.

When this POLITICO reporter decided to take the president’s advice and call the USDA for an answer to the Atkinson town hall attendee’s question, I found myself in a bureaucratic equivalent of hot potato ? getting bounced from the feds to Illinois state agriculture officials to the state farm bureau.

This topic also delt with the first piece of legislation Kristi Noem sponsored in congress.

?Anyone who has driven a combine through a field knows that dust is a part of rural living.  The possibility of the EPA fining farmers and livestock producers who practice good management through further regulation of dust would be excessive and detrimental to our nation?s vital agriculture industry.  It is hard to think of something more emblematic of Washington?s regulatory overreach than the potential punishment of farmers and livestock producers for kicking up dust,? said Noem.

Noem’s bill is endorsed by the American Farm Bureau, South Dakota Stockgrowers National Cattleman’s Beef Association and R-CALF USA.

Come on, “Bill Clay”/Hans, now you’re just tossing me softballs.

Sure, I’d love to ask Kristi… if she’d show up at a public forum and take questions. Unfortunately, I don’t have $500 to buy an answer and a handshake.

The reason the Politico reporter got the runaround from the bureaucracy is because farming is mostly unregulated compared to other industries. I thought Obama was the smart guy? Why didn’t he just tell the farmer he was full of it and go to the next question?

What was wrong with the respectful question? I would have asked the nice little Communist what other part of our country he was going to take over with the revenue from the tax they want on me and my kind’s farts…
