Rep. Noem Addresses Government Shutdown

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Kristi Noem today released a video message to South Dakotans regarding the government shutdown.

Congresswoman Kristi Noem: “I was not in favor of the government shutting down, and I want to see it reopen as soon as possible. I have voted four times in the past week to keep the government open while also asking that no one get special treatment under Obamacare.”

  1. Kristi, why are your field offices in South Dakota – with the exception of Watertown – closed? Johnson and Thune offices are open and staffed by people who aren’t getting paid.

    1. as a furloughed federal worker myself, I appreciate Noem not thinking her staff is more important than the rest of us. I’ve called her office and talked with a lady there. Its not like they aren’t doing their job.

      1. So staff at Johnson and Thune offices are more important “than the rest of us” even though they are not getting paid but are willing to assist constituents? You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.

        1. Yes, apparently I do know what in talking about. Every federal employee working right now is not volunteering. They will be paid, they just don’t know when because that depends on the funding meaaure being signed into law. Don’t be so glib. And don’t be fooled by the Johnson staff “volunteer” claim. That is incredibly disingenuous on their behalf. Do your research so you know what you’re talking about.

          1. Please point to where I said ‘volunteering.’ Oops, you can’t because I never said Johnson or Thune staff members are volunteering. You said that. But I’m glad you figured out they will get back pay. You are an idiot who – again – clearly does not know what you’re talking about.

            1. Those who aren’t furloughed and are working will be paid. And those furloughed who are legally kept from working most likely will be paid as well. To say people are working without pay, volunteering whatever is just not accurate. Sorry that you don’t understand this basic concept. But I appreciate your willingness to try to stick up for your ignorance, little fella. *pat in the head*

              1. Thanks for again proving you are an idiot. Little fella? You call all genders ‘fellas’? You’re merely splitting hairs for the sake of an argument and attempting to be condescending to make yourself feel better. You’re going to have to try a lot harder. In order to insult me, I must first respect your opinion. The Congressional staffers who are working are not getting paid. They won’t until the shutdown is over. You must be a furloughed Noem staffer who’s bored. But the day will come when you can go back to emptying the office garbage cans, cleaning the toilets and toasting the bagels. ‘Pat on the head’ LOL what are you, 8?

                1. Since Senate workers get paid every 2 weeks and House employees get paid monthly, under your silly logic it would be accurate to say you’re “working without getting paid” unless you receive compensation daily. Better yet, why not hourly? Let Uncle Sam come around and put money in federal workers’ pockets on the hour, because if they have to work for two or….gasp…..FOUR weeks without payment, then they are “working without being paid.” Find me one congressional staffer who has yet to receive their pay check normally due to them. You can’t, which is why I am right. Also, “congressional” is not capitalized. Come on, stop wasting my time you dolt. I have better things to do on a Saturday than sit around and correct you all day!

                  1. Bwahahahah! Still splitting hairs to save face. Get off your sit-n-spin before you get dizzy. Thune and Johnson staffers in SD are working and not getting paid right now. Kristi told her staff to stay home except for Watertown. Dolt? you’re going to have to do much better than that. No one is asking you to respond so if you feel like you’re ‘wasting you’re time’ then don’t. Have a great day idiot! :)

  2. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. If we were so fortunate I’d like to see approval ratings of our delegation pre shutdown and at the conclusion.

  3. An OPEN MESSAGE to SoDak Republicans: Ms. Noem is beginning the process of “softening you up” and getting you ready for the turn of direction towards the Debt Ceiling debate on Oct. 17. – Meanwhile on Obamacare: “Ya can’t negotiate when ‘ya got no cards.” What would Republicans offer to convince our President to give up the medical device tax? Y’all have no bargaining position what-so-ever.” PS: She’s already dropped the “Demand to Defund” pledge do to your lack of campaign contributions coming in. (The H2O-town office is still open should you want to write a big check. :)) Right now the radical right-wing faction that shut down “We the People’s” federal gov’t will take ANY crumb that saves ANY face, call it a victory and happily move on from the public opinion disaster they created for their moderate colleagues in the Republican party. So, get ready…you didn’t lose but it’s about over. -Porter Lansing ~ founder BILLY JACK LIBERALS
