Noem responds to SDDP's absurd attendance allegations

When South Dakota Democratic Party Chairman BJ Nesselfluff speaks, I tend to disregard what comes out of his mouth. That’s how most people are when political parties push an agenda.

Problem was, no one slammed these guys down for spreading their misinformation across the state the past couple weeks. To be honest, I had many people asking me about this story. It wasn’t the allegations that caused the discussion or that they believed it, the issue that really got people’s wheels spinning was the lack of a response to counter the absurd allegations by the SDDP.

Thankfully Noem’s team has assembled a response that counters the allegations and corrects the record.

Here is also a video of Noem doing an interview with Jonathon Ellis:

Noem came across terrible in the video.

She doesn’t even know what to say when Ellis says he didn’t get her fact sheet.

I don’t believe what the Dems said but I’m not totally on board for her either.

“Of 20 committee and subcommittee meetings held since Noem?s appointment in June 2011, South Dakota Democratic Chairman Ben Nesselhuf said she?s attended four.” (Sioux Falls Argus Leader)

“Of the hearings Democrats alleged she missed, Rep. Noem was actually present on at least three occasions, proving that the Democratic Party is simply lying to South Dakotans.” (Kristi’s web site)

Guess that means out of 20 meetings, Kristi has attended 7 out of 20 instead of 4 out of 20. A whopping 35 percent attendance rate.

That, Bill Clay, is truly absurd.

There is a very informative article on this topic by Jamie Brinkman in Thursday’s, May 24, Watertown Public Opinion. It’s on the front page. She too interviewed Noem and it is full of pertinent information, such as Noem voted 98% of the time.

She and her staff clearly got to Ellis and the WPO. Both are now pushing Noem’s side. Obviously they want to be in her good graces.

I agree with Troy. This was a stupid issue that Noem’s team seriously mishandled.

When I worked for Senator Abdnor, one of the most common tasks I performed was to monitor one of his committees/subcommittees while he was in another. Unlike the state legislature where committee meetings last only an hour, in Congress they lasted most of the morning.

The Senator and I had addressed his priorities or views before hand, he told me who the member that agreed with Jim, and to get him if something adverse happened or might happen.

Of all the charges one could level against a member of Congress, this is the most ignorant. KN can not be in three places at once. She votes 98% of the time which to me is an amazing number.

And yet the dems still got a pretty good ding on her simply because she didn’t respond.

That is what I don’t get.

Noem has a lying problem. That it took her more than two weeks to counter this response makes it quite obvious that her answer is a falsehood.

Another falsehood spread by Noem is that she quite college after her father died, but any one from the Watertown area will tell you she quit school after she got married at 20.

If she is lying about that then at some point the media will figure it out. A lie will eventually unravel.

Noem was pregnant when her father died. It’s possible she had planned to go home before her fathers accident because of the pregnancy…

If that is true than why don’t the dems dig up the dirt on it? I’m sure that would end her career in politics immediately. Maybe because it isn’t true???

I thought Kristi looked great in the interview. She talks clearly, without the typical mumbo jumbo of politicians. When she learned Ellis didn’t get a copy of her fact sheet, instead of blaming a staffer or making excuses, she accepted responsibility, apologized, and made sure he got one. Good leaders show their character in the little things.

I don’t agree with all of her positions, but anyone who knows her, knows she is not any sort of a slacker. This charge is ridiculous.

      Bigbird88,

Politics is all about perception. She can’t let the Dems define the opinion of her as a hard worker or a slacker. We know she’s a hard worker. Not everyone does though.

The problem with this is if she’d have responded two weeks ago this story would be dead. She waited or fumbled the ball and now two weeks later this story is alive and well.

It might be a 1 day story turned into a month of crap.
