Obama rumored to be coming to South Dakota in May to address LATI commencement.

My spies are telling me that ‘the widespread buzz’ over South Dakota’s presidential visit is that President Obama could to be coming to Watertown in May to address the commencement at LATI.

At least, that’s what my spies tell me.

Update – (And it looks like we all heard at once, now that I’m seeing it confirmed)

    1. Will Thune, Rounds and Noem meet him there with Daugaard? I wonder if Brendan Johnson shows up with Tom Daschle?

  1. We really have ourselves to blame. This is like saying the word “blizzard” too loud in April. If no one bothered to take note of his absence, this calamity would have never come upon us. Now he feels obligated to fly in and pretend to care. I doubt his visit is worth the expense.

    1. I don’t think he was sent an invite, but requested to speak. Probably as you stated, felt obligated but then too we were the last state to have King Obama grace us with his presence.

    1. yeah, he can get back to north dakota in a hurry once he’s done. i’m sure there was thought put into it.

    1. Yes, he “heard’ about LATI’s high graduation rate…maybe from one of his advisors who was looking for a place other than a reservation to visit. It is an honor to have Obama visit. However, it would be a greater honor to have James Buchanan’s exhumed corpse paraded across the state via an open casket motorcade.

    2. You don’t see anything odd about graduates who have been prepared for Real Jobs being addressed by somebody who has never had one?

      1. I am still looking through the LATI course catalogue for community organizer. I will let you know when I find it.

    3. It’s a photo op, WU, much like you always say about Senator Thune. Obummer is only coming here so he can say he hit all 50 states and to promote another taxpayer giveaway.

However, I thought Obummer said there were 57 states, so he would still be 7 shy, according to his mind.

  2. Maybe he could get to watertown the night before and join the Codington County Republicans for dinner…

    1. We could probably sell some tickets to the Dems, but lose a lot of Republican sales, probably mine too.

  3. Please tell me His Majesty’s visit will not be on a date that I am traveling to or from Aberdeen. I can see the traffic on the Interstate being stopped so he can pass.

    1. You can see into the future? You must have espn! The Secret Service should have Princess Kristi drive Obama to Watertown. He’ll get there fast with minimal traffic disruptions.

  4. Seriously! To Americans, a visit from their President is a big deal. I am sure the students at LATI will remember the event.

    1. Just like I remember my brother’s graduation: Alexander Solzhenitsen insulted us in Russian. Oh yeah, it was memorable. He told us we listen to intolerable music.

    2. Seriously! He is the worst president in modern history, and he sullies the office with his presence, so I don’t think anybody should have to feel obligated to think of this as a good thing or worth getting excited about. I’m sure when Lenin went out to the gulag the people were told to think it was a great thing.

      1. Yes, he is the worst president ever. I mean, the country was in a terrible shape financially (worst recession ever) when George W Bush left office and we had two expensive wars going on at the same time. But that’s okay because Obama is the worst president in modern history!

    3. My nephew goes to LATI and was told only 4 family members allowed to attend his graduation. That sucks.

  5. I have to agree with Lee. It could be the worst president we’ve ever had (and we’re coming close here) speaking, but the kids graduating will remember that at their graduation, the President of these United States gave their commencement address.

They’ll remember that better than most of the rest of us could. I have no idea who spoke at mine at SDSU way back when. I just wanted that diploma!

    1. “but the kids graduating will remember that at their graduation, ”

      Maybe…maybe not.

Its just as likely that when their kids & grandkids ask about the LATI graduation, the graduates will be too embarrassed by Obama’s failed presidency to mention his name. For example, how many SAE frat alums from OU are willing to talk about their SAE experiences today? Or how many people are proud enough to talk about how they competed against Bruce Jenner many years ago?

I predict that the embarrassment that is Obama will be to much for normal folks to talk about in the near and intermediate future.

    2. I disagree; I would hold it as a badge of honor that the socialist Obummer didn’t ever come to South Dakota. You don’t honor the person who is almost single-handedly ruining the country, so the argument carries no water with me, Pat.

  6. I hoped South Dakota would remain the ONE state that President B,.H,.O, did not visit (remember when President Clinton never visited Nebraska?)…..we honor the office not the person…….

      1. When King Obama respects the Constitution and the laws of this country, we will. He hasn’t earned respect, and any that he had as the first black president went by the wayside with what he has done to the country.

        1. King Obama? Not sure if your confused and referring to another country with a monarchy and a different person but here in the United States President Obama has won two terms elected by the majority of the voters.

  7. The difference between many of the posters here, and Barack Obama is that (based on my personal experience of him, and that of my friends and family) he would be genuinely happy to meet you and shake your hand. (Hey, that’s how community organizers roll 🙂 He’s been here before, in the 2008 primary. So was Hillary. Obama was far more outgoing and genuinely interested in meeting and greeting as many of us as possible.

    1. If I had to choose between meeting Obama or duggersd, anne beal, enquirer and whoever else fits in that bag of old bones, I would opt for the more interesting choice: Obama.

      1. I’m so “honored” to be in your list of people you don’t want to meet. Personally, if I happened to wander into someplace and President Obama was there, I would be happy to greet him. I’m just that kind of guy. Hopefully he wouldn’t ask me any questions because if he did, I would answer them and I doubt he would like my answers. I remember seeing Gerald Ford come to Sioux Falls and going to see him go by. I remember George Bush the elder coming for a campaign stop and going to see him. Those are experiences that are nice to have. To meet the President, any President is something to remember. And I would probably remember him more than Anne, enquirer or Anonymous. But I would be more likely to cultivate a friendship with Anne or enquirer more than President Obama.

        1. Misery loves company. I’ve no doubt you’d become besties with Anne and enquirer.

    2. “he would be genuinely happy to meet you and shake your hand. ”

      Not according to Obama:

“And it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment

He calls us bitter and having antipathy for those unlike us. What a bigoted, ignorant a$$.

Those who are closest to him universally describe him as aloof.

So, who do we believe? Obama and those who know him,, or some wishful thinking near-anonymous polyanna poster named “Bill Fleming”?

      1. agreed, sadly. ‘happy to meet’ translates into ‘happy to mentor/lecture’ more often. it would be fun to see him commit a middle-finger nose scratch if he glanced my way though.

    3. “He’s been here before, in the 2008 primary. ”

He sure was, and to quote Obama:

“Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Sioux City”

–May, 2008 in Sioux Falls, SD

      What a joke.

Do you even remember this phony show of his?

      1. I saw him in Rapid City. The fact that he may have got Sioux Falls and Sioux City mixed up shouldn’t come as a surprise. I mean really, what’s the diff? Oh yeah, Sioux City has a nicer, bigger river. 😉

    4. You must be easily taken in. Obama is an island unto himself, and he cares for nobody except to the extent they can further his anti-American agenda. I would turn away if I was in a line where he went by and feel proud to do so.

      1. You are no doubt proud of everything you do. Far be it from me to try to divest you of your narcissistic, self-aggrandizing notions. Carry on.

        1. (…always ironic when someone so full of false bravado chooses to post as “anonymous.” Oh well, takes all kinds, I guess.)

          1. And “Bill Fleming” is not anonymous?

            Wow.

Until you post some contact info, you are just another anonymous poster.

Get over yourself, Bill or whoever.

            1. Bill and I have had our disagreements for several years. He uses his name. He runs a business (or at least did at one time). His business has a web site (or at least used to). Try googling him if you do not believe he exists. Last I heard, he lives in Rapid City. If there are 10 issues, he and I will disagree about 11 of them. I usually respect what he has to say even if I believe it to be wrong. He posts what he believes. Now, how about you post your contact information? BTW, I had to laugh at his comment about narcissism, being a supporter of one of the most narcissistic people of the US.

                1. ‘BTW, I had to laugh at his comment about narcissism, being a supporter of one of the most narcissistic people of the US.’

                  Oh, Bill supports you too?

                2. Anonymous Fleming:

Either post some contact info, or cease with the whining that you have more credibility since you use some “name”.

Either put up or shut up–your credibility is on the line.

                3. A google search for “Bill Fleming” turned up just shy of 28,000,000 hits.

Without some identifiable contact information, “Bill Fleming” is just another anonymous commenter–which is fine, but enough with the faux claims of more credibility using “Bill Fleming”.

                  1. Bill Fleming,

As a representative of Anonymous posters please excuse Anonymous 7:04, 7:09 and this person’s other comments. Why in the world would someone need contact info? Cyber stalker and this person is still posting as one of us being anonymous?

Bill Fleming please continue to add to our quality discussions

                    1. “Why in the world would someone need contact info?

No one need anyones contact info

Nor does anyone who uses a common name have any greater claim to credibility than one who does not.

                      That’s the point.

                    2. No one has questioned your credibility, although by now you have lost whatever shread of it you may once have had. My comment to you was about your self-aggrandizing attitude, and the irony your expressing it anonymously. If you were really all that proud of yourself, you would tell us who you are. The fact that you won’t gives the lie to your own professed opinion of yourself. I find that as comical as I do your protestations of my calling you on it pathetic.

                    3. “although by now you have lost whatever shread of it you may once have had.”

Sorry Prince Fleming., you are not a judge of ANYONES credibility.

“If you were really all that proud of yourself, you would tell us who you are. ”

So why doesn’t that same standard apply to you?

Tell us who you are “Bill Fleming”!

Are you not proud of who you are and what you stand for?

                      Coward?

                  2. After this outburst of yours, I have more credibility than you have, by magnitudes of order, even if I were to post anonymously.

Most people, when being walked into a brick wall, give up after one or two nosebleeds. Only stupid people like you will persist in doing it.

But hey, whatever floats your boat.

                    1. bf, who else would you be? who could impersonate you? one or two particular anons here are pretty intent on mucking up the machinery here.

                    2. “Only stupid people like you will persist in doing it. ”

Sure ,call people names, hiding behind one of tens of thousands of people named “Bill Fleming”.

IF you are going to insult people in a juvenile manner, then at least provide a real person to back it up.

Until you properly put an identifiable person behind your insults , your comments will mean very little.

If you are man enough to call other posters names, tell us who you are. Man up.

                      Coward?

                    3. “bf, who else would you be? who could impersonate you?”

And I’d ask Bill the same question:

Why does he think that using “Bill Fleming” provides him with any more credibility than one who choose a nome de plume?

On more than one occasion, the poster who calls himself “Bill Fleming” (hereinfafter known as Prince Fleming) has dismissed other posters’ comments, challenging them to use their “real names”.

Its interesting to watch Prince Fleming squirm when the tables are turned.
The fact is this: the ID of the person who posts ideas, facts, arguments is 100% IRRELEVANT–if one wishes to respond, then respond to the substance, not with name-calling (“stupid”) or pumping ones chest because one may use “Bill Fleming”.

…Prince Fleming needs to concede this.

                    4. That’s King Fleming to you, goofball. And today you’ve chosen to play my court jester. My suggestion is that you write some new material. Your absurd claim that no one knows who I am here is getting old fast, even to the point of making your fellow anon’s asses tired. You should be more careful about who you allow to own your mind. As long as you keep this up, you’re just showing everyone how much you belong to me right now. Let go of it and get back to being nobody. Best advice I can give you.

                    5. “That’s King Fleming to you, goofball”

Which is it? “Bill Fleming” “BF” or “King Fleming”

All these different names and no identifiable information!

” you’re just showing everyone how much you belong to me right now.”

Yes, I’m all yours. Where do I mail myself to you?

” Let go of it and get back to being nobody.”

Wow, much false bravado hiding beyond an anonymous “BF”! How ironic!

“Your absurd claim that no one knows who I am here is getting old fast,”

I’ve never made that claim. The fact is, MOST of us do not know you and thus, you are essentially anonymous. Until you choose to change that, you will remain the anonymous Prince Fleming hiding whatever you are trying to hide.

Unlike myself–even as “Anonymous” ,I am well known around here. The fact that YOU may not know me is your problem. not mine.

                    6. ” even to the point of making your fellow anon’s asses tired. ”

I suspect most of them are just as tired of your childish dismissals and ad hominem attacks of their comments too,

                      Such as your latest:

“always ironic when someone so full of false bravado chooses to post as “anonymous”

(btw, that was not my post that you responded to).

So, are you ready to respond repsectfully and to the substance, or are you choosing to maintain your juvenile habit of attacking posters?

          2. “(…always ironic when someone so full of false bravado chooses to post as “anonymous.” Oh well, takes all kinds, I guess.)”

            What’s wrong “Bill”?

You can dish it out, but when challenged, you too seem to be full of false bravado as you hide behind one of 10,000 anonymous “Bill Flemings”

Can’t take the snarky comments after you dish up a fat one?

            How ironic indeed!

            1. ..sorry, that post above should have gone here:

If you keep this up, anon, you’ll grow hair on your palms. 🙂

              1. I’m “Anonymous”, not “anon”.

You sure have a lot of smart things to say, and good advice to give.

Where can I email you for more?

Or, are you too full of false bravado when you chose to post as an anonymous “Bill Fleming”?

Oh well, takes all kinds, I guess.

                Right?

              2. I will? really?

                That sounds terrible!

Do you have a website where all of your collected wisdom is located? Where is that?

Can call you for further diagnosis? What’s your number?

Surely, with a name like “Bill Fleming” , you actually exist and can identify yourself…right?

I’d hate to think all of your wise comments here are simply those of a loudmouth spouting off anonymously…’cuz that would be an act of false bravado and we all hate that right, “Bill”?

                1. Bill is the well-known owner of a Rapid City advertising agency.

It took me less than a two minutes to google up his Facebook page and business phone number.

                    1. What are you going to park outside of his business and home now and stalk? make phone calls to friends & family? bud you need help!

                    2. Stalk BF?

If you read BF’s comments (why start now, right?) , its clear that he has the obsession with the identities of the various posters.

That’s my point: why does he have this paranoid obsession with who’s who? He’s the one stalking anyone posting as “anonymous” as if they should be somehow punished for posting that way.

                      Its really weird, right?

          3. I know Anonymous @11:48, Bill. Many of us do.

You are wrong–he/she is neither narcissistic nor aggrandizing.

So, you need to cease with your baseless speculation and personal attacks.

Yes it does take all kinds ,so take our own advice, address the substance, not the personality.

(and before you stumble into another embarrassing comment, I am not Anonymous @11:48).

          4. I know Anonymous @11:48, Bill. Many of us do.

You are wrong–he/she is neither narcissistic nor aggrandizing.

So, you need to cease with your baseless speculation and personal attacks.

(and before you stumble into another embarrassing comment, I am not Anonymous @11:48).

  8. 1) I think it is an honor to have the President visit our state.

    2) With our South Dakota charm and good will, how can it not rub off on him? 🙂

    3) That said and not questioning his motives, it does have a “check us off the list feel” because we were last on his list (someone had to be last). Thus, the President has an obligation to make special effort to mitigate that feeling. Again, not because he is just “checking us off the list” but because it is natural to have that feeling.

  9. Mr. Powers … Our President is close to the worst ever? News may be slow there so here’s an update. He’s finally pulled the economy which you conservatives drove into the ditch and left for dead back to prosperity. (The U.S.’s AAA credit rating was affirmed by Fitch Ratings Inc., which cited the strength of the nation’s economy, capital markets and status as the issuer of the world’s reserve currency.
The U.S. budget deficit, which has narrowed from a peak of $1.4 trillion in 2009 to $483.3 billion in 2014, is expected to continue to shrink in 2015 and 2016, though reforms to mandatory spending and taxation measures will be needed to prevent increases after 2018, analysts Charles Seville and Ed Parker wrote in a report released Monday. Fitch said the outlook for the rating is stable.) PS … Obamacare has virtually ended the suffering of medical bankruptcy, halted runaway premium increases, one of the most serious burdens to Americans when he was elected and made being a woman no longer a “pre-existing condition”. Close to the best ever, is more accurate, sir.

    1. “Mr. Powers … Our President is close to the worst ever”

      I agree with you Porter–Powers is w–r–o–n–g.

      Obama is the worst ever

      1. “Obama is the worst ever”

In the president’s defense, if he’s getting head from an intern, at least he hasn’t gotten caught.

        1. I suspect that Obama has some “women” issue(s) (a la Bill Clinton) in the last 10-15 years.

    2. Wow, you sure have misplace optimism, don’t you? Our country has no credibility worldwide, the labor participation rate is among the lowest it’s ever been, so he hasn’t reduced the unemployment rate, and Obamacare is a disaster. “Close to the best ever” is one of the dumbest things I’ve heard in a while. Perhaps you’d be more comfortable in France, Porter?

  10. @a non ymus The lack of documentation for your assertions is only exceeded by your use of “dumb” when without proof. USA has more credibility now than when our military was being deployed to stop “weapons of mass destruction”, a ruse to make Halliburton stock soar for Mr. Cheney’s personal benefit. The labor force no longer has to prop up 50 – 61 year olds working only for the health insurance benefits. They can now buy an individual policy (means tested) and work part-time or retire as they choose. Thank-you for your concern as to my comfort, Mr. or MS. Ymous but USA is a much better place than it was when your conservative was leader and my comfort is refreshing, sir or ma’me.

    1. “USA has more credibility now” which explains why the Saudis led a coalition against ISIS without letting the US know more than an hour before the attack. BTW, I am 57 and still work, and it is not for the health insurance. Keep making it up.

  11. FYI …. the statistic often referred to by the right “given up looking for work” is made up of the semi-seniors aged 50 -61 who’ve scaled back on work because their houses are paid for and they were only going in every day because it was the way they could get healthcare insurance. They got the unemployment insurance they were entitled to and are now retired or working part time. Obamacare gave them the opportunity to buy an affordable policy and give their work position to a younger worker with a family to raise. It’s another wonderful thing this President has enabled and that’s denigrated wrongly by selfish conservatives. ahem ….. I’ve made a career of not telling anyone what to do. Why would I start with you?

  12. My basic response is, “Why all the hullaballoo?”

I don’t care for large crowds. And I don’t care for all the trouble involved in being part of a large crowd addressed by the president. I went to one event with President G W Bush. The hassle wasn’t worth it, not even a tiny bit, and I have a great deal of respect for him. The Secret Service has made presidential visits a logistical nightmare for the poor sods being visited and I would not willingly go to another one, not even if the next president turns out to be a reincarnation of Lincoln.

But if the president wants to come congratulate a few graduates and they’re willing to have him come, why is that even an issue for anyone not actually participating in the graduation? Some of the responses on here, you’d think they’re grade-schoolers afraid he has cooties or something. He’s a lousy president, not a louse-y one.

  13. “A lousy President” – “Obamacare is a disaster” – “Obama is the worst ever” WOW! … Pure balderdash, conservatives. We liberals know deep within that in seven years you’ll be saying the same thing about HRC because that’s what y’all do. Machs nichts.

    1. porter’s posts at 10:25, 12:23 and 2:45 shows us an important thing. textbook application of goebbels’ strategies continues to be the preferred modus operandus of wilson-style progressives. make up the big story, and stick to it, and voila – history is changed, er, made.

  14. Bill Fleming is a long-time poster at the DWC, uses his real name, and lives West River (which has insufficiently impacted his political outlook).

    1. Can you defend this poster from Bills ad hominem attack by verifying his/her long-standing credibility and meaningful contributions?:

You must be easily taken in. Obama is an island unto himself, and he cares for nobody except to the extent they can further his anti-American agenda. I would turn away if I was in a line where he went by and feel proud to do so.
