Out of State group literally trying to buy election when it comes to Amendment V

From KELOland comes the story on how the liberal out-of-state interests have done their darnedest to try to but the election on Amendment V – Putting nearly 1.3 MILLION into the ballot measure which would hide party affiliation on the ballot, and to eliminate independents from the fall election:

The campaign finance report — filed with the Secretary of State’s office for “Yes on V” — shows a massive amount of money coming from out of state, $1.3 million.

Those against the measure say that money is evidence that V is an out of state plan that’s wrong for South Dakota.

and…

According to finance reports, the Yes on V group — which supports those changes — has taken in a lot of out-of-state money. More than $1 million came from an organization called ‘Open Primaries.’

“This donor does not disclose their contributors. It’s a dark money organization and they want to come in and buy a policy that would keep you in the dark,” chairman of Vote No on V Will Mortenson said.

  1. I think I need to go into the ballot fleecing business…I me an consulting…and look at the numbers spent on web services….no wonder they have so many out of state followers on FB….

V is not just a NO , but a NEVER!

  2. Nice that democratic operatives Slick Rick Weiland and Ray Samuelson are getting rich off of V tho! Ha.
    Sucker born all time

  3. Wait until you see the new ad against John Arnold that the people against V are releasing

    1. that one makes fun of it in a fun way but it has also been out for a couple weeks

      I agree NO on V!

  4. They’ve been sending out robocalls trying to drum up votes for V. I’ll be honest: I deleted the message once Joe Kirby introduced himself.

    1. good job Adam!

Kirby has admitted he doesn’t care about Independents –he wants to remake SD and make it more liberal

  5. I dispute the last 2 posts…the latest poll said 38-38 and 24 percent undecided from Nielsen

Normally people when undecided especially on Amendments vote NO.

V is going to be defeated…..no way do we blow up our system, which hurts all parties Republicans, Democrats Independents and creates a constitutional crisis for Lt Gov.

    NO on V!

  6. I looked at the “Yes on V” campaign finance report. There are 67 itemized individual contributions from individuals, 55 from South Dakota addresses. However, of the contribution total of about $258,000, more than half comes from the 12 out-of-state individuals ($117,000 from Vincent Ryan of Boston).

For in-kind services, 21% of the almost $70,000 was from Open Primaries. South Dakota-based TakeItBack.org gave $13,646 in in-kind services, but it’s unclear where TakeItBack.org’s financing comes from because its federal filings for 2016 aren’t due yet. It only raised $750 in itemized gifts – $250 each from De Knudson, Beth Lapra, and Janet Miner – in 2015, according to OpenSecrets.org. International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49 gave $5,000 in 2015.

At minimum, out-of-state contributions account for more than 80% of Vote Yes on V’s expenditures. The total may be more than 90%, depending on how contributions are allocated.

    1. It seems I can’t reply to my own post, so I need to make a correction. 79% of the in-kind support for Vote Yes on V was from Open Primaries; 21% refers to TakeItBack.org’s percentage. I knew what I *meant* to say, but I didn’t proofread well enough. I apologize for the error.
