Release: Deb Peters has been named the Vice President of Communications and Member Relations of the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO)

Deb Peters has been named the Vice President of Communications and Member Relations of the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO)

“I am excited to start this new endeavor with SDAHO. It is an honor and privilege to work with, and for, our healthcare facilities in South Dakota. Access to healthcare is important and critical in preventing disease and improving health which ultimately increases quality of life. I look forward to working with healthcare facilities across South Dakota.”

Prior to starting with SDAHO, Peters owned her own small business consulting company. She also spent 14 years in the South Dakota legislature where she held a variety of positions, including Chair of Appropriations and Government Operations & Audit Committee. Peters grew up in a healthcare family as well as co-managed the family clinic in Madison, SD for 8 years. She has had a passion for healthcare over the years and coming to work with SDAHO will fulfill that passion. Peters has recently come off her term as President of the National Conference of State Legislatures.

  1. A couple of observations: 1. Why did she run then? You can’t tell me she had no inkling of getting this job. 2. If you look at legislative resignations the past decade, you’ll see the majority go to work for our healthcare monopoly. I guess the lesson is if you do a good job of continuing their multi-million $ monopolies, and help crush any bills by the “little guys”, “alternative treatments”, etc. , you get a big payback from the big corporations. I sure hope this changes in the new administration !

    1. To “Served with her”
      1) Because running is so easy and non-time consuming, she figured she would just run for the heck of it and then not actually take the seat?? Obviously this came afterwards, otherwise I’m sure she wouldn’t have ran and it wouldn’t have made sense to. If you know Deb Peters at all, you know she doesn’t do anything half-butt!
      2) Name a time she made it easier or better for the healthcare “monopolies” (which are illegal) to “continuing their multi-million $ monopolies”? She will be working for SDAHO, which represents a vast array of different hospitals and health care providers. Their goal is to ensure health coverage to all South Dakotans. The fact that there are multi million dollar health care providers has nothing to do with former Senator Peters. She has asked the tough questions of these providers both big and small during GOAC and JCA meetings and tried to ensure health coverage for all South Dakotans, to say otherwise would be a baseless lie.

      1. She has asked tough questions? Please. I think the questions she asks have answers that most certainly benefit her.

What about the question – is abortion murder? For Peters that must be a very, very tough question. Her votes against the sanctity of life have allowed the multi million dollar Planned Parenthood to continue reaching their “healthcare” goals.

        So who’s the liar here?

        1. Here are a number of bills that she voted on in opposition to abortion. Took me all of 5 minutes to find at least 6 examples. To say that Senator Peters is a reason that Planned Parenthood has flourished without pointing to any examples is again, BASELESS! Am I gonna sit here and say that she has been the strongest opponent of abortions in SD, no because that wouldn’t be true either. Her votes have never once played the deciding factor in a bill or resolution in favor of the sanctity of life. Those bills have either died or passed based on their own merits, not because of any opposition that Senator Peters had mustered against them.
          Votes in opposition of abortion.
          HB 1252 – 2012
          HB 1162 – 2014
          HB 1180 – 2014
          HB 1157 – 2016
          SB 24 – 2016

          1. Peters supported allowing ObamaCare health plans to fund abortions – HB 1185.

Peters voted against simple informed consent laws which place the same requirements on abortions as are often placed on minor surgeries – HB 1217.

            How about SB 72?
            SB 88?
            HB 1193?
            HB 1296?

Peter’s vote counts and many times her “voice” supported the murder of innocent life and funding Planned Parenthood.

            1. SDRL’s ranking of Peters is 50%. What a shame.

In 2017-2018 seven Democrats are scored higher than her. Has she also been championed by PP similar to what they recently did for Sutton?

              Be Better. – Michelle Obama.

            2. 1185 – Didn’t testify in support of the bill and was excused from the vote.
1217 – Yes, she voted against the bill along with severa other Republicans. In fact, Sen. Rave voted in support of the bill… hmm interesting and definitely working in cahoots together.

      2. Please correct me if I’m wrong as I don’t have time to look up all the bills now, but as I recall she voted against the public interest and with big healthcare on bills implementing Obamacare, on bills trying to overturn Obamacare, bills to help midwives, bills to put chiropractors on even footing with MDs, and bills to guarantee you can go to the physician of your choice. She and Rave were like two peas in a pod.

    2. A majority resigned to work for “our healthcare monopoly”? I can think of THREE that went to work for a healthcare organization at all (Rave, Peters, and Johnston). At least five appointments as the result of a member passing (Tieszen, Dryden, Schaefer, McPherson, Turbiville), Jenna Neatherton moved out of the State, Don Haggar went to AFP, Russ Olson took a job HCPD, Jon Hansen went to law school, and Todd Schleckeway went to the tower erectors. I don’t recall off hand the rest of the vacancies but clearly a majority are not jumping ship to work in healthcare.

  2. I wonder if Ms. Peters considers abortion healthcare?
Does she think an abortion could increase the quality of life?

  3. As a democrat who served in the legislature with Deb Peters, as well as on the GOAC for a number of years I can say without doubt that she always had the best interest of the citizens in her heart. She always asked the tough questions and demanded the truth and accountability from anyone testifying in committee. She was unwavering in the search for truth and accountability and will be an asset to the state legislature that will be hard to, if not impossible, to replace. She was fair and unbiased, even when criticized by members of her own party. That is truly what governing should be about.

I wish her well in her journey with SDAHO.

    1. Garry, with all due respect, her actions (or lack thereof) in regard to Gear Up does not fit your descriptions.

      1. Steve, what would you have her do regarding Gear Up? There was a court case ensuing during her time as GOAC chair. Would you have her subpoena individuals that are involved in the court case? There are procedures in place for this. To pin Gear Up on her is 100% completely unfair.

        1. The court case? You mean when 2 out of 3 get off completely, and the 3rd is worshipped for pleading guilty. Peters played her part on the legislative side to make sure that only the dead people paid a price.

          1. Wow!! Sounds like the Attorney Generals problem. To put that on Deb Peters is deeply out of bounds.

      2. Her actions do fit Garry’s descriptions because they are his truths.

Wasn’t it Peters who invoked a legislative joint rule to stop, specifically, SC 28 which would recognize the investigative work Angela Kennecke did on the Gear Up scandal?

  4. Anybody who is a fiscal conservative should be thanking Deb Peters for her service and how she applied her financial skills. Nobody understood the appropriations process better than her in the entire Legislature and nobody found pennies better than her which added up to big dollars every year and over time.

As one who is a hard core fiscal conservative and values frugality, I thank Deb Peters and lament her loss as a public servant watching the people’s purse.
