WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) today voted in favor of S. 1881, legislation he cosponsored to redirect funds from Planned Parenthood to community health centers.

“Recent videos of Planned Parenthood officials causally and cold-heartedly discussing the sale of body parts of unborn children is reprehensible. I thank Majority Leader McConnell for bringing legislation to redirect funds from Planned Parenthood up for a vote this evening, and I thank my colleagues who have taken the lead on this important issue. I am pro-life and I do not support taxpayer dollars funding an organization that performs abortions and illegally sells the body parts of unborn children. It is sickening.

“Part of our job as members of Congress is to vote our conscience when it comes to moral issues. This is clearly a moral issue that must be addressed. There are many other options – other than Planned Parenthood –  for delivering important services to women. I will continue to oppose federal funding of Planned Parenthood.”

  1. For far too long South Dakota capital “C” Conservative politicians have stood on the necks of women to win election by denying females their reproductive rights (whether they believed in it or not) as set forth by the USA Supreme Court. Today the tide has turned and women won a decisive victory.
    – The Senate voted 53-46 to BLOCK a bill that would have eliminated Planned Parenthood’s federal funding and redistributed the money to other health centers, the first shot in an increasingly pitched battle that could disrupt spending legislation this fall

    1. Why is it that liberals will scream and holler when corporations get tax breaks that allow them to keep their own money, but they think it’s okay for the federal government to give a private, profitable corporation like PP half a billion dollars a year?
Just because you like a product, you think the corporation that produces it should receive federal funding?

And why should PP get additional funding that the private practice clinics, providing all the same services, don’t receive? Why should other clinics, competing for the same patients, have to rely solely on their patients and insurance companies for payment?
I thought liberals were opposed to crony capitalism.

    2. Your strawmanning of “conservatives” misogyny because they think abortion is immoral is tired and the exact same sort of bullshit you accuse the other side of doing. I can recognize that women have more at stake here, (the fetus is in their bodies, after all) and still think abortion is morally repugnant.

        1. Maybe not. The fact is the money would likely be better spent on birth control and the like, and I wouldn’t have an issue if PP was doing everything else but abortion. I do not want tax dollars being used to support the procedure, pragmatic concerns notwithstanding.

    3. Just remember what that right actually is Mr. Lansing… It’s the right to kill babies, legally kill human beings. When they get around to accepting that killing you might be a good option because you are “taxing” the system too greatly, maybe you’ll sing a different tune. Killing babies Porter… Thats the right they’ve been given. Remember that.

  2. You guys hold a majority in the Senate and you can’t even get past a filibuster to defund this barbarian madness ? P A T H E T I C.

Some leadership you’ve got there Mike. Afraid of their own shadows.

SO now are YOU going to call out the failed Senate leadership? If not now, WHEN?????????

  3. He voted against defunding planned parenthood on Sunday. This guy is nothing but a sack of you know what. Quit bragging about your show votes.

    1. You might want to take a step back and rethink things a bit. Mike Rounds is fully aware of the process… He knows he just has one vote and what you call a “show vote” is exactly how you would have voted if you had a vote… What more do you want from the guy????

  4. If he truly believes this is a “moral issue” that “must be addressed”, what is his plan to address it!?

  5. “I thank Majority Leader McConnell for bringing legislation to redirect funds from Planned Parenthood up for a vote this evening,”– McConnell voted for the fetal research bill in 1992-

Would one of you people that want more abortions tell us what rules were broken by PP?
