SDGOP updates the party – Holding 2018 Straw Poll at SD State Fair

From my mailbox, South Dakota GOP Chairman Dan Lederman had an e-mail out today to South Dakota GOP Central Committee Members, and it contains an interesting tidbit of what’s going on at this weeks’ South Dakota State Fair.  It notes in part…..

Central Committee:

Hope everyone has enjoyed their Summer!

The SDGOP has been busy and I wanted to give you an update of how things are going with the state party.

and….

This upcoming weekend is the South Dakota State Fair. I want to thank Rosie and Gary Harrington for all their hard work at the SDGOP Fair Building. Rosie and Gary have been setting up the building and will be handling the day-today operations. I encourage all counties to make their way to the fair and to visit our building anytime between August 31 to September 3.

The SDGOP will be conducting a Straw Poll for the Congressional and Gubernatorial races. Everyone is encouraged to stop by the building, volunteer, bring cookies and vote in the straw poll for your favorite candidates. I am attaching a sample ballot that will be used this weekend.  (My emphasis… see inset image above – pp)

and…

As always, please call anytime with any questions, concerns or accusations. 🙂

For the party,

Dan

Dan Lederman,  Chairman
South Dakota Republican Party

The party conducting it’s own straw poll in a primary environment is an interesting step forward, and certainly represents a more independent-minded GOP under Lederman’s leadership.

The GOP acknowledged to me that it’s not a scientific poll by any means, but it’s the kind of outreach where the party has an opportunity to bring more people into participation because they have an interest in their favorite candidate doing well in the informal plebiscite.

Stay tuned, and see you at the fair!

  1. Did you know that if you subscribe to what physicists call “String Theory,” that there are a total of 11 parallel universes then. So then, the odds are pretty good that on one of those universes, that the late Mike Myers was elected governor of South Dakota in 2014, which would then make Lora Hubbel the incumbent candidate for this straw poll in that universe….. 😉

    #Somethingtothinkabout….

    1. Gnarly, man.

Maybe there is an alternate universe in which Hillary Clinton is not a crook.

        1. EC – Come back to Earth, we want you here. Let’s focus on ‘Good Trump’ from time-to-time, that’s what we did with Obama; balls and strikes. I’ll spare you my list;)

We want to go to the state fair, better than going to a movie now-a-days or watching that MTV Video Music Award trash. If we don’t make it, our vote today would be:

          2 for Dusty!
          2 for Marty!

          1. “Good Trump?’ That sounds Orwellian…. Or, are you talking about Melania, Barron, and Tiffany? Because those are some good Trumps in my estimation…. 😉 …… (It feels good to be back on earth….)

            1. Great to have you back. ‘Animal Farm’ and ‘1984’ are my favorite Orwell books, thanks for asking.

One of the podcasts I listen to often times does a piece titled “Good Trump, Bad Trump which one we will get today?” they play a funny tune to it.

      1. Or she thought to visit Wisconsin a year ago…

Come to think of it, wouldn’t want to live in that universe.

    1. Ms. Hubbel as the insanest governor ever would be very entertaining. Especially with Mr. Russell winning the Attorney job and Mr. Nelson choosing to run for the Auditor General after Lora’s great work following Mr. Meyer’s untimely death.

  2. You guys need to take a lesson from Bob Mercer. He’s a real class act and a true Gentleman. If Hubbel wins, Mercer won’t need to sue for freedom of information act. He will be free to get anything he wants.

    1. Tara, Hubbel’s not going to win. Didn’t you hear about how packed the Trey Gowdy event was and that all the people in attendance are committed to voting for her?

      1. If people get educated, they could change their minds. But, 90% really don’t know whats going on.

  3. You guys need to take a lesson from Bob Mercer. He’s a real class act and a true Gentleman. If Hubbel wins, Mercer won’t need to sue for freedom of information act. He will be free to get anything he wants. Mercer= integrety.

    1. I will say that young Ms. Hubbel is usually very polite, and I like that about her. If she wins this straw polling then she could really start a ball rolling, if Mr. Nelson doesn’t jump into the pool and splash all the water out.

  4. Someone on Noem’s team said Lederman wants them to give him a thousand dollars for the poll. I didn’t follow.

  5. If people get educated, they could change their minds. But, 90% really don’t know whats going on. They vote on sound bites. Hubbel may have a chance being the only pro-life candidate.

    1. And there you go making material misstatements. Lora is not the only pro-life candidate.

  6. She is the only 100% pro-life candidate. They are not pro-life. You are either pro-life, or you are not. It’s like being a little bit pregnant.

    1. Can you please explain how Lora is 100% Pro-Life and the others are not. Please give us a detailed report?

  7. Sure, I think I can do that. She is right in line with the Catholic Church when it comes to abortion. All life is sacred no matter how the child was conceived. You can’t pick and choose what baby lives or what baby dies because of how it was conceived. It’s still a baby. So Lora Hubbel is truly pro-life.
