SDGOP’s event counter-program of SDDP McGovern Dinner, and headlined with critic of their speaker

A commenter noted under the prior post that there’s also another event going on at the Ramkota on the evening of April 29th opposite the SDGOP’s Freedom Rally with David Horowitz….The South Dakota Democrat Party is hosting their one yearly event, their McGovern Day Dinner, headlined with a Bernie Sanders Democrat who lost a race for National Chair of the Democrat Party, Keith Ellison, who has faced harsh criticism for his past support of Louis Farrakahn, votes against Israel, etc.

The McGovern Day dinner is the dem’s biggest (only?) fundraiser of the year, and it’s an expensive one, with prices generally starting at $100 a head, unless you go to one of the side events where they will try to fleece their dwindling number of donors for more money.

Ellison will likely prove to be a controversial speaker, with some Democrats threatening to leave the party if he was elected chairman, such as famed attorney Alan Dershowitz:

There has been powerful push from the hard-left of the Democratic Party, led by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), to elect Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) chairman.  If he is elected, I will quit the party after 60 years of loyal association and voting.  I will become an independent, continuing to vote for the best candidates, most of whom, I assume, will still be Democrats.  But I will not contribute to the DNC or support it as an institution.

and..

Ellison has a long history of sordid association with anti-Semitism.  He worked with and repeatedly defended one of a handful of the most notorious and public anti-Semites in our country:  The Reverend Louis Farrakhan.   And worked with Farrakhan at the very time this anti-Semite was publicly describing Judaism as a “gutter religion” and insisting that the Jews were a primary force in the African slave trade.

Ellison has publicly stated that he was unaware of Farrakhan’s anti-Semitism.  That is not a credible statement.  Everyone was aware of Farrakhan’s anti-Semitism.

and..

But the connections are more recent as well. In 2009, Ellison headlined a fundraiser for Esam Omeish, a former candidate for Virginia state delegate who had told Palestinians that “the jihad way is the way to liberate your land.”

With regard to Israel, Ellison was one of only a small number of Congress people who recently voted against funding the Iron Dome, a missile system used by Israel to protect its civilians against rocket attacks by Hamas and Hezbollah.  His voting record with regard to the Nation State of the Jewish people is among the very worst in Congress.

Read that (and more) here.

By bringing in Bestselling author David Horowitz to headline the GOP’s counter-programming of the Democrat Event, the Freedom Rally, SDGOP Chair Dan Lederman is also bringing in one of Keith Ellison’s harshest critics:

Not a lot of room left for doubt on where Horowitz stands on Keith Ellison.

So, if you’re a Republican who wants to support the GOP, and oppose the Bernie Sanders wing of the Democrat Party, there’s only one thing to do on April 29th:

Join the SDGOP at the Freedom Rally with David Horowitz!
Saturday, April 29th at the Ramkota Ampitheatre

Speakers include Dr. Allen Unruh, State Senator Neal Tapio
and State Representative Greg Jamison.

      1. Stace tried to get Tapio to support Russell but failed. Ravnsborg is his guy.

Fitzgerald and McQuigan are also good candidates.

  1. How much lower does the SDDP want to sink? Associating themselves with Ellison? What numbskull thought that was a good idea? For heaven’s sake, even Alan Dershowitz is on to this guy.

Good luck in 2018 SD Dems, you’re gonna need it. I for one will be sure to bring this Ellison invite up come election time next year.

  2. Ellison might be from Minnesota but he couldn’t be elected from any other District in Minnesota because he is outside the rural American mainstream, even rural blue mainstream. The SDDP is definitely on a suicide mission.

    1. He wasn’t elected: he bought the seat. He’s just the latest seat-warmer in the endless North Minneapolis, DFL vote buying machine. Millions of tax-payer money is funneled to non-profit “neighborhood associations” every year that are nothing more than thinly-veiled get out the vote operations. Even blatant embezzlement at one, Community Action of Minneapolis, where Ellison and a host of other DFL hacks were board members, was swept away by Dayton and the press as a rogue director gone bad.

      Chicago politics at it’s best.

  3. So in other words, in the absence of an Erickson candidacy, Jamison has become the GOP’s default candidate for mayor of Sioux Falls in 2018…… Pat and Jim, what do you guys think of all of this?

Tapio, huh? I heard he wants to totally get rid of Medicaid; at least that is what he said at a Watertown legislative coffee last February. So I guess we can trust that the Governor will not be at this event, huh?

    1. He does NOT want to get rid of Medicaid. He made a tongue-in-cheek comment in regard to a stupid question, we might as well do away with Medicaid, but then went on to say we do need Medicaid to help those in need.

      1. But when he made the comment, he then looked for reassurance from the crowd about his position. I believe he said, “Right?”

  4. Will the few remaining sensible, reasonable and moderate S. Dakota Democrats primary and force out the hard left faction that have taken over the state party?

    1. Who they really need are fellows like my good friends Bill and Mr. C to step up and run for things. Either offices or party leaderships. They are both fellows with a lot of sensible, reasonable ideas and they are not insaner than most.

  5. David Horrowitz — Lets get on the real subject. David is a great speaker with a great background. I’ve heard him at two different national legislative events and recommend him to all voters. A real pleasure to listen to and a person with superb story.

  6. Are we the only GOP worried about another altercation with Islamists Ellison speaking at same place as Horowitz? Seriously nutty strategy in this day and age of terrorism….
