Sounds like they did it to themselves…

From Bob Mercer this morning, Bob chronicles how redistricting had nothing to do with the awfulness of the South Dakota Democrat Party:

South Dakota Democrats didn’t get into their horribly deep hole overnight. It took 40 years of ups and downs to finally bomb this bad.

But after seeing 30,000 of their registered voters disappear in the past eight years in South Dakota, while Republicans and independents surged to record heights for this Tuesday’s election, the question must be asked.

What happened?

First, let’s look at what didn’t happen. The popular, but erroneous, claim is Republicans used legislative redistricting every 10 years to punish Democrats.

Read it all here.

As I noted yesterday, the leadership team of the South Dakota Democrat Party is the worst it has been in years. A continuous trend of mismanagement and abdicating their role as a political party has contributed to their continued downhill slide in numbers.  And unless they come to the realization they’re a political party, and not a small ballot measure company, it’s not going to change anything anytime soon.

  1. Mr. Mercer is an incredible asset for the people of SD with his knowledge and coverage of state government. No one else does it like him.

I agree that the SDDP has poor leadership as a party. They have for a long time now. They need to hire party builders and not far left Obama liberals.

It’s hard to put much of an opinion on the SD GOP since they are quiet and almost non existent most of this cycle. Whatever happened to Roetman? He always made the SD GOP’s presence felt.

    1. Thanks!

Jason Ravnsborg and I are fighting Amendment T with very slender resources. Ravnsborg is willing to travel everywhere to speak on all the ballot issues to any size group. The man needs no sleep. I handle social media and administration. I am still chair of Minnehaha and we are busy making marketing content i.e. videos for candidates and handling administrative issues. Also, if anyone needs Trump signs, I am contact point in SD – they sent us 5000 yard signs last week. Please take them! I have 2400 that do no good in my storage unit.

      1. I have seen Roetman very busy this cycle. He has been working with a lot of candidates on social media, making them videos etc. He also has been heavily involved in fighting the ballot measures.

He impresses me a lot more than the Chair or ED…where have they been defeating these ballot measures should be their focus meanwhile they want to discuss who is going to be governor in 2018….no focus.

If T or V passes the chair and ED should be fired.

  2. They do have a legislative candidate with a God complex that has stated he will not only save the party but will use the state senate if elected as a springboard to run for Governor.

    1. Since there are arguably only 6-9 possibles for this category…care to share who this is or do we need to guess who this false prophet is?

        1. Oh i thought it might be a realistic chance…like Billie Sutton….I didn’t even have dist 3 man winning his state senate seat….but thank you for the clarification.

  3. Beware infiltration for the purpose of participation ! It’s happening. Party numbers don’t fall off THAT bad. Our brand is being diluted. Just look at how interparty squabbles have intensified. Is the Republican Party interested in conservative principles or just conservative lip service ?
