South Dakota Democrats FAIL at being political party (again); Must hold do-over convention like Libertarians.

Remember when the South Dakota Democrat Party used to be competent?

Me neither. And they’ve failed once again.

The political party for which Billie Sutton is the Gubernatorial candidate for faces having his Lt Gov re-picked. Tatewin Means can go for a do over in the AG race. And all of their constitutional party candidates have a chance to reconsider their candidacies because the staff & leadership of the SDDP can’t read the law in how to file certification of their convention results.

As a result of not doing it correctly, South Dakota Dems are now forced to have a do-over convention, just like South Dakota Libertarians had to earlier this year.

So who is responsible for this screw up? Sam Parkinson as ED, or Ann Tornburg as chair? If I was running under their banner, I’d be asking.

Either way, it doesn’t speak highly to the capabilities of the people in charge.

  1. Looks like the Republicans have the AG well taken care of after the Democrats fiasco.

  2. …and they want us to trust them with running the state? When they can’t even run their own party

    1. Is it possible that if this press release was issued in August that the dems wouldn’t have any candidates?

How long do they have to do over?

  3. This is a joke right?

Looks like they are having a convention before July 13.

It doesn’t matter who did it. It is a “corporate*” matter. Responsibility of the organization.

  4. No joke! I was in an Uber when I first posted it. I have added the Re-convention letter from Tornberg.

  5. By the way, why did they list Tom Cool’s age and nobody else’s? Is there a senior citizen discount or something?

    1. Seilers age has been scrubbed from Wikipedia a d everywhere else also I see..he is 72 for those that are curious

  6. The SD Dems just keep on sliding into complete irrelevancy.

Have you seen their registration numbers? Dems are down almost 4000 voters since January. Meanwhile, GOP is up to over 95,000 voter lead over the Dems.

  7. Now I have a bone to pick with Lederman… Why didn’t he wait to send that letter until July 15th! 🙂

  8. The new convention should include elections for a new chair. I just read the email from Ann and she conveniently left out she failed to file in a timely manner and makes this sound procedural. It is not procedural and this is a serious error.

    1. No, she was voted in fair and square and young Ms. Tornberg will be running the Democrat Party for years.

  9. I feel bad for the delegates that will have to spend money and alter their schedules again to fix this.

    1. Better invite the press and make sure it is a fair process vs a rubber stamp…not just a couple people showing up…where will it be held?

    2. Good point, anon. It’s not the delegates’ fault. I know I risk wrath by saying, but most SD democrat voters are (basically) good people. As US citizens, these friends, relatives, co-workers, and neighbors possess a God-given right to cast ballots, to speak, to assemble, & to participate in the electoral process. I don’t know all, or even most, but the local democratic SD candidates I’ve met seem normal. While we disagree politically and philosophically, they don’t resemble the raving, radical, “progressive” lunatics running hog wild on the coasts. Local leftists may dislike Trump, but they practice greater civility than do the mindless mobs of NY, DC, and California, jerks who attack ICE agents, smash storefronts, perpetuate hate, and threaten elected officials with death, dragging our nation ever closer to a second civil war.

Although SD Dems seem fairly reasonable, they MUST obey state law. Disregard rules & we get anarchy. The party of Jefferson and Jackson should learn how to read a statute. Do your homework! There’s a surplus of clever, left-wing election lawyers hungry for work. Ironically, the dems (often called the “lawyers’ party”) seem desperate for basic legal support. Perhaps these embarrassing local goofs and gaffes are symptoms of a nation-wide disease. Under Pelosi, the left seems confused, conflicted, disorganized. Based on twitter rants, many so-called liberals have lost the plot entirely, and dem leadership certainly appears, as Gramps would have said, “asleep at the switch.”

      1. I have never understood why Democrats claim Jefferson. He was a Democratic Republican, not a Republican Democrat. If you don’t know the difference between a noun and an adjective, blame a teacher.

        1. I see Jefferson as possessing a brilliant mind, as a Virginian ahead of his day. I dare the revisionists to argue that the Louisiana Purchase was a bad investment or that Jefferson’s reaction to the Barbary Pirates was misplaced. No, he’s no a saint. He’s rather far from perfect, but I understand why he’s honored on Mt. Rushmore. Every signer & author of the Declaration deserves respect. Without them, no USA. Without the US, totalitarianism reigns.

      2. Then vote in some people who aren’t anti-American, anti-Constitution, and anti-sovereignty.

    3. Sure hope a particular professional victim does not get involved and call all the press and attack the SOS office again accusing Krebs of sabotaging the Cannabis petitions and now the Democratic Party.

  10. So their former AG nominee hosts a pride parade and drag queen contest on the weekend and

The party fails to properly nominate the candidates….

GOP is living right with these unforced errors by Democrats

  11. What an incompetent party! And think they have party leadership running for office.. yikes

  12. This means Stace Nelson has time to stage yet another LT gov run. I know The Big Donkey has another run left in the tank.

    1. Billie Sutton/Stace Nelson? Can’t see Stace playing 2nd fiddle. Stace Nelson/Billie Sutton ?

      1. True, second usually isn’t in his vernacular, except if you mean second helping, which he never would turn down, nor a spot on the big stage.

        1. Can you imagine being in Billies shoes and having to listen to Stace all the time talk about himself all the time and about his broken down old Marine body? Drive a person to drink.

  13. It’s important we get out and vote Republican, but I also want to add… look at Democrats in other states. Now look at Democrats in our state. Sutton is going to get whiped out but hes pro gun, pro life, pro ag, and he’s reaching across the aisle for his LT. Things could be a lot worse.

    1. The NRA had him at 50% in 2012 and at 79% in 2016.. has he jumped up from there? As well as, SD Right to Life has Billie at 80%.. so I dont think Id go so far as to say he is pro-life and pro-gun.. maybe pro-ag, but ag isnt the same type of issue that the other two are, if you know what I mean.

  14. Once again, the Argus shows their utter lack of integrity and honesty. Their coverage makes it more sound like the issue is just politics than gross incompetence.

Let me speak real slowly for these people.

At the end of the day, the first and foremost job of the formal party is to nominate all these statewide offices and fill vacancies. All other functions are supportive in nature.

Election law in this area is very simple and short. Send us your nomination, certified by the proper authorities in three days. In reality, it is no more complex than signing a wedding license after the ceremony. With today’s technology of an iPad and Bluetooth portable printer, it can’t take more than 3 minutes.

And, these people can’t even do this. Their incompetence is so great, I wouldn’t hire these morons to run a fast food register. South Dakota Democrats need to know the extent of this incompetence.

Our very political system depends on viable competing parties. Nothing is served if the GOP becomes as incompetent so we are competitive. Democrats have to do their job and when the Argus buries exposing their incompetence, they are part of the problem.

I am having a hard time decideing who is more incompetent (SDDP or Argus). And, maybe that is the point. The losers are just in bed with themselves having a pity party rather than being relevant.

    1. Thanks for the Argus angle. I don’t get the paper but was wondering what spin they put on this story, or if they even covered it.

      1. The Argus left out that the wrong officers signed it. Two substantial points of noncompliance, not just one.

I also don’t believe they put it in the mail right away.
