Thune: Senate Must Complete Work to Repeal Obamacare

“It’s time for us to complete the work the American people sent us to do: repeal and replace this failing law with the affordable, patient-centered health care solutions Americans deserve.”

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) issued the following statement after the Senate agreed to move forward on legislation to repeal the failing Obamacare law:

“For seven years, we’ve watched the bad Obamacare news pile up, from lost health care plans to soaring premiums and dwindling choices. Americans all across the country are suffering under Obamacare’s failures, and they deserve relief. Today Senate Republicans took an important step forward toward fixing the problems Obamacare has created. It’s time for us to complete the work the American people sent us to do: repeal and replace this failing law with the affordable, patient-centered health care solutions Americans deserve.”

  1. Those who are now accustomed to the kids on parents policies untill adults at 26, who are now on expanded Medicaid, who get subsidies to pay for their insurance premiums, etc will and are demanding that these be retained in any replace of Obamacare. Obama knew this and said we would never get rid of Obamacare once passed. And the result would be single payer. Please do not let this happen!

  2. And the Senator says, “…..and they deserve relief.” How is removing 26 million people from health insurance coverage or cutting Medicaid by 35% by 2036 relief?

What soaring premiums? My wife and I have seen our premiums go down twice since 2013.

What lack of choice? Personally, we use to have two choices with our employer, but now we have three.

Are my deductibles up? Yes they are, but they were going up before ObamaCare too, except that now we get 100% coverage on physicals, colonoscopies, birth control, no pre-existing condition clause, and kids can stay on their parents’ policy until age 26. Oh, and those on Medicare no longer have a “donut hole” when it comes to their prescription drugs too.

The Senator’s health care plan is not a health care plan. It is merely a bill to cut taxes for the wealthy and to destroy Medicaid. And in a state with declining sales tax receipts, the thought of diminishing federal Medicaid commitments is very disconcerting, and is definitely not “relief.”

  3. Destroy Medicaid? Only in the government is a decrease in the amount of yearly increase considered a cut. Medicaid money still increases every year. Reform Medicaid so it serves it’s intended purpose and it would have enough money.

    1. By 2036, Medicaid will be cut 35% under the Senate version. Plus, our population is growing and not decreasing. So your mention of “a decrease in the amount of yearly increases” is ignoring the reality of population trends…..

Medicaid is working to serve “it’s intended purpose” too, but with a collapsing middle class its purpose has an expanding constituency, however….

  4. So our population is increasing and you are assuming all these new babies and new immigrants will need Medicaid? How about a little individual responsibility…don’t have a child you can’t support and don’t come to this country if you don’t intend to support yourself!
