  1. For one thing, those aren’t his words.

But, I think most people hold a similar view.

Ellis is the best thing left at the Argus. His cynicism can go a bit too far sometimes but I appreciate that he is skeptical of government and can see through the B.S. of politicians.

    1. He sees B.S. where there isn’t any because he can’t see through his own. Ellis is an arrogant piece of garbage.

      1. Ahhhhhhh, now it’s ringing a bell. I thought it was just decorative liner for the bottom of dog kennels and bird cages and the like; or TP in a pinch.

  2. A little context for all the Big Government conservatives who loiter here: The comment was made by somebody who has been following our FOIA lawsuit against USDA to make SNAP sales data public. A handful of lobbyists who were representing industry groups that have been begging the government to keep the information secret are now working for USDA or congressional Ag committees.

    1. Wait, I thought context doesn’t matter with leftists. Are the rules changing again or do they only apply when they push an agenda?

      Keep it real, Ellis.

      1. Oh, he keeps it real.

Notice how he calls us “Big government conservatives”? Think that bias reflects in his writings? TJ does and so do I. Many journalists are really just activists with an agenda. Eventually, feminists will red-pill him. ‘All men are rapists’ and ‘acknowledge your white privilege’ doesn’t resonate well with the majority of white men.

      2. Leftists’ rules change all the time, most recently:

If a college age women sees a penis, that’s sexual assault.

If a little girl sees a penis in the ladies’ room, that’s equality.

    2. Ellis has never even been to pierre. He writes drivel from SF and pretends to be in the know based on a few relationships.

  3. What really tells you everything is he considers something snarky and uses scum and sh*t as “sage.” And, denigrates people who are in public service as scum and sh*t?

Plus, I suspect the favorability rating of public servants is a lot higher than journalists.

    1. Trump’s rating is higher than that of Congress, yet most of them think Trump is not liked.

  4. The Republican SD Retailer’s Assoc. doesn’t want snap data public because then everyone would know food stamps is nothing more than corporate welfare. It’s the same reason while they will never promote restricting what people can use their snap benefits to buy. They love big govt when it lines their pockets. Both the liberal blog and the conservative blog complain about the argus leader so that tells me they have pretty fair reporting if both of these echo chambers don’t like it.

  5. Ellis, your sophomoric whine to justify your wholesale denigration is crap I’m sure you wouldn’t accept from a conservative trying to explain something you.

Big government conservatives? Loiter? Your disdain for the people here couldn’t be more obvious and odorous you are a public nuisance. Just go away. Actually, just go out of business so the market can get served by an entity with a modicum of professionalism and integrity.

    1. “Big government conservatives?”

That question would come from the “fake news” position that all Republicans are conservative. Only a minority of Republicans are conservative. Most are tax and spend big government liberals, as proven by the three major tax increases during the Daugaard administration.

    2. Hi Troy. I don’t see how my explanation was a “sophomoric whine.” As far as I know we’ve never met. But we have mutual friends who have explained your hostility toward me because you have not liked our investigative reporting into some of your friends. So be honest. There’s more to it than my Tweet and explanation You seem very angry. Anyhow, it’s cocktail hour. I will just go away. Best.

      1. Whoever you talked to is not my friend because my friends know I appreciate the value of an honest press pursuing the truth. And, they know I can see how did you say it “scummy shit” a mile away. Your stock in trade or m.o. is smug snark. I can’t recall anything you have ever done that was investigation where you did the hard work in pursuit of the truth.

Its a sophomoric whine because you didn’t own what you said and tried to minimize it by making it about something specific. But, maybe it just goes to your general incompetence that you don’t understand it is dishonest and unjust to make generalizations when talking about the specific.

        1. Troy, you and Pat are alike in one sense. All your GOP friends act like you are so nice and cool to your face, and then they talk about how incompetent you are to everyone else. Outspoken morons who like the sound of their own voice is the most common phrase I hear.

          1. If they are my friends, they speak the truth to my face. People who assert character matters anonymously or behind my back are not my friends.

So, feel free to flock together. Your opinion is of no consequence to me.

            1. And yet, here you are making your opinion heard about Mr. Ellis. You guys are a joke. Someone doesn’t do your bidding and you just attack them. Stay classy.

              1. And the irony is here you are giving SDWC clicks. You help Powers get paid, how’s that make you feel?

Everyone who disagrees with you is attacking, that’s a joke and it’s a joke Ellis claims to be an investigative journalist. He’s an activist with an agenda and you’re the moron who falls for his “reporting”.

                Stay classy.

      2. You won’t go away, you can’t help yourself.

Careful during cocktail hour, feminists and activists (like yourself) may make claims you’re a raging alcoholic who goes free after sexually assaulting women. And, they won’t have to provide any evidence for their accusations, you will.

        Cheers!

  6. “Investigative reporting”. That’s a joke, right?

Be straight, Ellis, call it what it is…. activism.
