Christine Erickson featured in Argus Leader article.

Stu Whitney’s column in the Argus Leader this morning features former state representative and current city councilor Christine Erickson, Who, in an understated way, seems to keep capturing everyone’s attention and rises in popularity.

“She’s a refreshing new voice, and she’s got moxie,” says fellow council member and former Sioux Falls mayoral candidate Greg Jamison. “Because of her experience in the legislature, she understands the technique of debate and communication. Some of us get involved in personal issues and egos, but she sees it as issue-based and doesn’t let that stuff get out of hand.”

and…

The non-partisan nature of the job hasn’t stopped Erickson from dipping her toes in larger political waters. She was approached by the staff of U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rounds last October to emcee a Sioux Falls rally featuring Rounds and former presidential contender Mike Huckabee, an event that helped right the ship for Rounds’ eventual victory.

  1. I think she could be competitive in the mayoral race and really hurt young guns like Ten-Hakken but not very confident in a run for her for state wide office yet. SF is her nitch. But after 8 years as mayor she would be in a top seat to succeed Marty, Kristi or Mark as governor.

Since she works well with others she would be a refreshing change to Huether.

On paper she brings some value to the LG position and regionally the SF aspect plays well for Marty or Kristi to pick her for SF based support.

The only thing Whitney left out of the article were specifics regarding accomplishments. Everyone was quoted as praising her for that but nothing was mentioned. She will want to hone in some specifics if she runs for mayor.

Look forward to a woman running city hall!

    1. She probably moved up a spot on the SF mayor depth chart this week. Not because of this article (Stu’s no politico, he just has a sports-guy man-crush on Christine’s famous brother), rather for the fact that Costello’s hopes for a more successful, second run for mayor were severely damaged with Capital One pulling out of town and killing 700 jobs after he gave them $200k to come.

      1. The only thing that hurts this column is that Stu Whitney is awful as a political mind.

  2. I don’t waste time reading puff pieces on any liberal, so please quit printing Rounds’ press releases and Argus articles. They are a waste of ink and give your readers nothing of any value.

    1. Hi Stace.

Look she isn’t ready for statewide but Sioux Falls has people like Darren Smith who want to run in ’18 for mayor so she might have a good shot at being mayor.

  3. I don’t agree with Stu Whitney very often but in the instance he is absolutely correct, Erickson is a rock star with a bright future.

She’ll probably have to wait a few years for a shot a something big but she’s 37 so she’s got plenty of time. With roughly 6 people preparing to run for Mayor in 2018 I’m guessing she’ll hold off rather than get into that mess.

    1. Jamison, Erpenbach, Anderson Jr, Costello, Ten Haken, and Hildebrand are all looking at it. Jamison and Erpenbach are in for sure.

      1. While I think Erickson would place near the bottom in a congressional primary I think she would be in the top two for mayor.
