  1. Inauguration Day in South Dakota is special. It’s a celebration of the State and our Democratic traditions and is rarely partisan. We all stand for the Governor and the Daschle’s are greeted as warmly as Thune’s when they appear.

Contrast that with Minnesota this year, where the entire GOP legislative membership skipped the whole show. I’m no fan of Dayton or the DFL leftists that control the state, but, really? Talk about a no class move.

One more reason to relish South Dakota.

  2. I understand there was a Grand March. Did it include a trumpet fanfare? I should attend the coronation in the future.

    1. The grand march is part of the inaugural ball festivities tonight. It’s a state inaugural tradition where the statewide elected officials and spouses (or other family members) descend the marble staircase.

The dresses the First Ladies wear are later re-created in the doll collection on the first floor.

It’s hardly “a coronation,” but more of a throwback to the early part of the last century when grand balls were commonplace.
