Regrettable Candidate Tweets. @SDSUFootball edition with Cory Ann Ellis.

Remember last election when the Liberal Democrat candidate in Aberdeen previously had some less than kind things to say about Northern State?

Here we go again with another regrettable old tweet with Liberal Independent candidate for District 7 State House, Cory Ann Ellis:

  1. The only people who care about the SDSU / USD rivalry are people from USD. Literally no one else cares.

    1. Isn’t it still monumentally stupid to say such a thing when you are running for an elected office? I am not running for office, so if I post on FB (I would have to be on FB to post something, but THAT won’t happen) it won’t impact me, but someone who is trying to woo voters saying that she doesn’t care about something that constituents care about is a blunder that only a mindless twit would make. It’s like saying, “Does anyone else care that Planned Parenthood is selling the body parts of slaughtered babies for money?” and then wondering why you didn’t win in South Dakota.

  2. I would be willing to take a bet on that. With the number of alumni in our state, there is an element of pride. If I were a candidate running for office in the Brookings area, I would keep to myself the fact that I did not care about that game. BTW, tell that to the local eating and drinking establishments in the area and see how far you get.

  3. Sports fans obsessed with THEIR team reflect a level of groupthink I tend to associate with the left.

  4. List me among those who could care less about these games. I understand and appreciate the rivalries and the healthy pasttimes. But phooey on the jockocracy and the money spent on sportplexes and stadiums in our state.

Various times in the legislature we would vote to give spending authority for a stadium project and we were reminded it was donated money. I always voted no as a protest vote. The next morning my cell phone would ring and Dana Dykhouse would remind me of how important sports were to getting students in these universities. I made my points to him about state leaders encouraging philanthropy toward projects and people groups in the state were there was real need and even human suffering and misery. Fell on deaf ears.

  5. Hahaha. I agree with her. Higher education should be for, wait for it…education!

Save your rebuttals, I’ve heard them all. I still argue that you should go to college to learn and prepare for a career, not travel all over for meaningless games.

    1. Meaningless to who? To you. Not to a poor black boy who’s been told the only way out of the projects is football. How many of those boys have been recruited to SD to play football and then after college continue their lives here. Here not being the ghetto and because of that become successful, productive people.

I see you don’t care about them, maybe you’re a racist? Seems Cory doesn’t care much about those boys either, is she a racist too?

  6. Right, I said I’ve heard all the rebuttals before. So they get a worthless degree which they didn’t really study for. What good does that do them? You don’t need a degree to sell cars. I’d rather we make community college free for everyone and drastically reduce the price of university so we’re not subsidizing athletic scholarships for…what purpose? Entertainment and showing off our cool athletic facilities?

    1. Right, you didn’t need to reiterate you’re a racist, but… I guess.

Black people are worthless and stupid – didn’t really study and even after earning a degree they’re only good at selling cars. Well-done. Smart move not putting your name with your racist comments.

      1. You’re the only one mentioning race. Why do you assume all kids going to college for sports are black? There’s plenty of 400lb cornfed white boys getting full rides based only on their mass.

It’s kind of a self fulfilling prophesy. “You can only succeed by being good at sports.” So maybe a kid does get to college based on athletics and then goes nowhere professionally in sports. The NCAA itself says 1.6% of college football players turn pro. So now what? Useless degree, no more educated than four years ago because all of the professors were forced to pass you or you took absolute joke classes.

Or perhaps, maybe the kid does take it seriously and gets good grades, legitimately, and it leads to a good local career. Why did that person get to do it for free just because they’re better at sports? The answer is money of course. Money and publicity for the school. Why not take the money out of education and focus on giving the best education, for a low cost or free. Just all seems so backwards to me. Some of the highest paid people in the country are college football coaches. Madness.

  7. To say you’re reaching is an understatement. 6 year old tweet that isn’t offensive at all and you pulled from some archive (its deleted)..and I am actually one of those people that cares about the game.

The kicker here? Her opponent has openly racist stuff on his social media he doesn’t even bother to delete.
