So, is the Maher Event a Democrat thing or not? Dems back saying it’s a Dem thing.

After first advertising the Bill Maher appearance as a Democrat Thing, and then denying it’s a Democrat thing, Democrats are back advertising it as a Democrat thing.

Is there anyone in that office that has a clue as to what’s going on?

  1. interesting? what was the rent the SDDP had to pay for the facility and the promotion?

  2. Please tell me where it says the Democrat party is sponsoring Bill Maher. There is no advertising outside of the emails to party members. Patron tickets are available does not mean sponsorship; it means a block of seats has been reserved. Good grief. Get a life.

  3. This is just a good example of how out of touch the SDDP is with average Democrats much less average South Dakotans.

Yes Maher is very liberal. Yes he is sometimes very funny. But he is also mean, vindictive and vulgar/crass. And it is the latter traits for which he is best known by people other than his fans.

No political organization which wants to appeal to a majority of people should intentionally associate themselves with someone who has such a reputation, even if their political views match up to large degree.

“But I’ve often said that if I had – I have two dogs – if I had two retarded children, I’d be a hero. And yet the dogs, which are pretty much the same thing. What? They’re sweet. They’re loving. They’re kind, but they don’t mentally advance at all. … Dogs are like retarded children.” — Bill Maher

  4. Right on target, @TOTS.
THE HUN POLICE ~ You’ve all heard of the Fun Police but South Dakota takes it to the extreme with the “HUN POLICE”. This is the pervasive German philosophy responsible for most of the problems with the state and it’s conservative politicians. Simply put, it is the lifestyle/legislative choice of “deriving pleasure from denying yourself enjoyment.” i.e. Living with only what you need instead of working toward what you want. In other words, Republican lawmakers and their conservative constituents won’t spend money (even though it wouldn’t create a hardship) on buying and creating enjoyable situations for the people AND use that denial of entertainment and enrichment as a way of being happy and satisfied… or as a German would say, “You will NOT have fun and you will enjoy it!!” By turning this bad habit around and welcoming new things and ideas even if it costs a bit, people will see SoDak as a place they might consider to move their business and still keep their employees engaged and fulfilled. But remaining with the “hair shirt” paradigm the conservative gov’t promotes will lead to just more of the same … students leaving, no one moving in, substandard wages and an unrecognized opportunity to build a desirable destination. It’s time to move the conservative lawmakers down the road and give the liberals their chance to show what should be done. South Dakota politics is stagnant and going backward in a time of great opportunity.

    1. We don’t work “toward” what we want, we work “for” it. It’s the difference between earning and taking.

  5. “South Dakota politics is stagnant and going backward in a time of great opportunity.”

    More Colorado hookah talking.

    LOL (lots of laughs)

YCHTLW (you can have the last word)

    TCB (take care buddy)

  6. You talk about legal weed the way my gay friends used to talk about their sexual preferences. No wonder you won’t give your real name, prison bait!! ha ha ha

    1. I doubt you have gay friends.

      Or friends.

YCHTLW (you can have the last word)

      LOL (lotsa luv)

    2. Real men don’t talk about their sexual preferences.

What kind of gay friends do you have anyway?

      1. The point is that you talk about legal weed so much it’s obvious you’re hiding something. No one so interested in a subject off the topic doesn’t have a drug stash in a tray under the couch, huh? That’s ok …. I won’t out you, stoner.

        1. “No one so interested in a subject off the topic doesn’t have a drug stash in a tray under the couch, huh? That’s ok …”

NO ONE can make sense of your comments here.

They are so odd, oblique, and chock full of jibberish, that you must be enjoying a Rocky Mtn High.

          1. The young people and the independents see lots of sense in what the liberals are saying. If you’re not learning anything maybe you’ve shut off the ability to process new things and new ideas, hmmmm?

        2. “THE HUN POLICE ~ You’ve all heard of the Fun Police but South Dakota takes it to the extreme with the “HUN POLICE”. How many words before “In other words”?

        3. ” “You will NOT have fun and you will enjoy it!!””

Where did you come up with the idea that S.Dakotans don’t like to have fun?

I understand that Bill Maher isn’t exactly fun, but there are plenty of other fun things to do and see in SD.

          1. There are a few fun things to do in South Dakota but the Republican overly conservative government is so anti-worker that companies won’t move their operations or their employees there. Paying your workers substandard wages may sound good to the politicians but a businessperson knows treating your workers like that will have poor results and moving to SoDak would be a poor business decision.

            1. US Census data indicates that young educated folks are leaving the liberal wasteland MN, and moving to neighboring states (ND especially). The Star Trib just had an article on the 10-15 yr. trend.

If it weren’t for foreign immigration, MN would be losing a lot of people, young mostly.

              Or, from the NY Times:

SD; 65% of those in SD in 2012 were born there.
CO: 42% of those in CO in 2012 were born there.

              People are NOT leaving SD.

Do you have a clue what you’re blathering about?

              1. …. facepalm That statistics degree is really paying off for you. Keep up the timely research.

                1. Your edukayshun is failing you.

I can see why you left SD for CO. The ganja soothes small minds.

CO= LOL (CO = lots of lunatics)

                  1. OK, fellow. The 42% is more indicative of growth because 58% of CO citizens chose to move here and our population continues to rise greatly. Not so much in SoDak which may be a good place to do business because workers rights are nearly nonexistent but not so good if you want to move people from somewhere to SoDak. Also, what is your benefit to calling someone disrespectful and insulting names? Many see that as an outgrowth of low self esteem. Finally, many of we liberals believe that you conservatives believe what you choose to believe. It does seem to explain your demeanor. However, conservatives actually believe what they NEED to believe. Until later …

                    1. “OK, fellow. The 42% is more indicative of growth because 58% of CO citizens chose to move here and our population continues to rise greatly.”

Or studmuffin, it could mean that CO’s best and brighest leave for greener pastures, and CO is then filled with a few liberal oddballs from SD.

                    2. “if you want to move people from somewhere to SoDak.

That’s EXACTLY what people are doing according to the US Census Bureau.

(In contrast with liberal enclaves like MN).

                    3. “However, conservatives actually believe what they NEED to believe”

Conservatives don’t need any advice from you, coming from your lilly-white male, privileged background.

                      Anymore than your
sexist remedies for women and their reproductive choices.

            2. “moving to SoDak would be a poor business decision”

In 2013, SD was THE top state for business, according to CNBC.

              YHAC ( You haven’t a clue.)
