Last night, as I was waiting for the Eagles Concert to start, I had an e-mail from a new reader who had caught my musing over whether or not Sam Kooiker was going to get into the District 32 House race with term limits affecting Brian Gosch.
Sean McPherson wanted to make sure that SDWC readers were aware that there’s someone already running for that seat – HIM.
McPherson’s bio notes that “After spending eight years in the United States Navy submarine fleet working on guidance systems for nuclear weapons and teaching electronic submarine warfare, he went to work for 4 years serving as a project manager at Intel Corporation and two years as a Field Sales Engineer for Sencore Corporation, Sean then entered full time ministry…. He serves as Senior Pastor at Real Life Church and High School Bible teacher at Rapid City Christian.”
Sean’s declaration of interest for the race makes him one of the first announced candidates for 2016.
Check out his web site here. And remember – the early bird gets the worm!
Ahh, a fellow submarine veteran – Also a MT or FTB?.
We have enough of these religious crazies in the leg, give me a break.
Why does everyone that is a bible thumper think that will translate well into being a legislature
Ya, why would we want Christians as LEGISLATORS, making laws for us to follow ? Shouldn’t we just leave that up to the atheists, agnostics, new-agers, earth worshipers, satanists, and muslims ?
Odd thing to say considering there were more than 50 ordained preachers in the group of our countries founding faqthers.
Combining a military leader, a religious leader and a politician is like mixing scotch and coke and drinking it from a dog bowl.
Is religion the dog bowl?
Looks like the Porter interactive spam bot program has a few bugs in it yet. Must be beta testing.
Wow! …. I know you don’t get to talk to a real liberal very often. Hey, it’s perfectly OK to make a statement even if your politics are really messed up but to ask questions of someone who ignores you is kinda self-deprecating, ‘ya know. But, that’s cool Mr. IdolWorship-onymous. Go on with your bad self.
as a practical matter, a big part of the active voter base in rapid city does care about the religious affiliation. to be a great candidate, and not also highlight this in your resume, is to go into battle with a big piece of armor missing. please calm down.
coming off as a bunch of dismissive godless reactionaries hasn’t helped the general run of democrat contenders attract any voters over the last decade or two. until democrats focus on what unites us and rejects what divides us they will continue to lose. and “being 98-percenters” isn’t what unites us.
Oh yeah. I remember drinking something like that from a washtub at a Bowdoin frat party.
That was a good time
As an aside, Mr. Powers let me commend you for your proper non-capitalization of the “the” in your sentence, “Last night, as I was waiting for the Eagles Concert to start” – Using the “the” to describe the concert and not the band is quite proper, as you know. The band is EAGLES and not THE EAGLES, and it’s often mistaken and even mis-used in a Wikipedia article. It was THE BEATLES and THE KINKS but it was and is only EAGLES. Hope the show was proper.
I hate grammar geeks.
Enough of this band called Eagles. (Joe Walsh lived five blocks from where I was born!) Back to McPherson. The gentleman sounds as if his entire life has been that of a servant leader and moving up to the ministry and legislature a natural progression. Knowing where he came from and where he stands today should make it easy for his constituent base to vote for him.
Thank you Pat for sharing my information. I would challenge everyone to get to know me before passing judgment based on a title I hold. I am, an ordained pastor much like many of our founding fathers, but I also have the titles dad, grandpa, teacher, coach, veteran, patriot and many others.
Everyone has a worldview through which they make decisions, my worldview is that of a Judeo Christian, no different than probably MOST of our current legislators.
I want to be in the legislation because I have always lived my life believing in being part of the solution instead of part of the problem. People can whine and complain about something or they can engage in the something an attempt to affect change.
I believe in servant leadership, and as a three generation war time veteran (my Dad during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Myself during the first Gulf War and my son during this current war on terror) I believe that when you have the capacity, margin and ability to serve, you should do so. That why I am running for a District 32 House Seat.
Thank you to each of you for being informed citizens, I wish more of South Dakota took the initiative each of you have taken. If you are in Rapid call or text (605)519-4688 I will buy you a cup of coffee.
Humbled for the opportunity to serve,
Sean McPherson
I don’t know you but I have no problem of you being a pastor or anything closely related to one. I would only vote for a Christian for any position from legislator to school board. Good luck to you.
On paper, McPherson sounds like a candidate with great potential; however, I am not holding my breath. I thought the other two ministers were going to be rock-ribbed conservatives and they both turned out to be squishy politicians.
