From the Hill:
The Justice Department plans to move forward this year with more than a dozen new gun-related regulations, according to list of rules the agency has proposed to enact before the end of the Obama administration.

“It’s clear President Obama is beginning his final assault on our Second Amendment rights by forcing his anti-gun agenda on honest law-abiding citizens through executive force,” said Luke O’Dell, vice president of political affairs at the National Association for Gun Rights.
The Justice Department plans to issue new rules expanding criteria for people who do not qualify for gun ownership, according to the recently released Unified Agenda, which is a list of rules that federal agencies are developing.

Gun rights advocates argue it would be more effective to ban people on an individual basis, as opposed to banning all people who are mentally ill.
“A person who experienced a temporary reaction to a traumatic event or who has trouble handling household finances may well be treated the same as a violent psychopath,” the NRA wrote. “Not only is this unjust and stigmatizing, it creates disincentives for those who need mental health treatment to seek it, increasing whatever risks are associated with untreated mental illness,” it added.
Aside from these issues, some gun rights advocates have also raised concerns about upcoming ATF rules that would require gun dealers to report gun thefts, provide gun storage and safety devices, and place restrictions on high-powered pistols, among other things.
Soooo……. Any thoughts on this?
They’re not proposing anything that would hinder gun possession by criminals.
Who gets to define “dangerous people”? The Justice Department? The ATF? Executive Orders?
LEGAL GUN OWNERS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM.
It’s not about the guns, it’s about power.
“Who gets to define “dangerous people”?”
Lois Lerner.
I got an email from National Association of Gun Rights warning Senator Rounds is leaning Left (surprise, surprise) on this and asking for voters to contact him. I then got an email immediately after that from the NRA notifying me of a fund-raiser chance to own a Henry 2015 F150 Lariat..
We liberals hope all those with a bit of cognitive impairment in your party (lol) get all the guns you need to feel safe. We, however already have enough weapons because WE’RE NOT AFRAID OF OUR GOVERNMENT!!! t.i.a. (that is all)
If you’re not afraid of our government you may be truly mentally ill.
I’m not afraid of the government…just some of the individuals who think they control it.
Any article that uses the National Association of Gun Rights (dba SD Gun Owners PAC) as a source is without merit, is suspect, and cannot be taken credibly. It’s a good thing this article mentions the NRA, because that’s the only thing giving this message any integrity.
As South Dakotans, we’re fully aware of the Administration’s efforts to limit our 2nd Amendment rights – and we’re obligated to rally against those efforts. It’s our duty and our privilege to fight to retain our constitutionally-granted firearms freedoms.
But the SD Gun Owners PAC (and its parent NAGR) is NOT about gun rights. They are concerned only with libel and slander regarding local and statewide elections. This nasty-PAC uses “gun rights” as their label to capture the attention of a naive audience and to fabricate a legitimacy. They are proud of their reputation as creators of slimy hype, bullying via the manipulation of an ill-informed electorate, and the bastardization of an otherwise fairly honorable political campaign process (ref: their website, and their history here in SD).
It’s surprising and disappointing to see this article on this website, because it refers a tiny crack of legitimacy to the ugly, anti-democracy SD Gun Owner’s group. They’re enjoying a Snidely Whiplash chuckle right now because they’ve garnered a mention on the South Dakota War College. There are plenty of sources available on 2nd Amendment topics that do not use the socially-demented SDGO PAC.
