Update – That IS a malware infection. And KDLT not serving up porn at all.

I’m going to research this issue a bit more, but apparently there is an “ad choice” virus that can appear on the right hand side of the screen…

In my case this morning, the unusual thing is that (such as in the Unicef and naughtier ads), it appears in-line with other images, and seeming is superimposing itself on top of where the advertisements usually appear. In fact, it appears in-line directly below the disclaimer KDLT uses to note things would be an “advertisement”

If that’s the case – wow. That’s devious and tremendously deceptive. I went down to the website code trying to find the source. And, I run several anti-virus & anti-spam programs, and none of them caught it.

This one piques my curiosity. I’ll let you know what I find after I do some more digging.

Update – This one blew me away.  The ads from a less questionable place appeared in the place of the legitimate advertisements on KDLT.   It isn’t doing it on other websites I can find at the moment. Just KDLT where their pre-existing advertisements are. I question if it’s based on ad dimensions, or targets the brand of ads they use.

In fact, legitimate ads load for an instant – and then are replaced by the bad ads, although, thankfully nothing as graphic as I had in my face this morning.

And it happened despite being a safe surfer, and regularly scanning.  A good lesson to always be wary.

  1. Your mentions of Lee Stranahan and his former profession on your site may be triggering the porno spam ads from KDLT.

    1. That’s kind of what I was wondering in retrospect. All the talk on “Pornahan” probably doesn’t help! Otherwise, trust me. After 7 kids, the last think I’m interested in is viewing naughty things. I’d rather get a good night’s sleep.

Regardless, I think it’s unusual that KDLT would allow those types of ads to be served via their site.

  2. Pat I know what you mean try Googling Dicks….as in Dick’s Sporting Goods….one word….YIKES!

  3. It’s not KSFY serving up the porn, it’s you. Your internet searches trigger the ads you see.

Perhaps it’s time for you to learn about private browsing?

    1. Aside from the fact that I’ve been doing this internet stuff for a long time, I’ll note it once again for the people not bothering to read the post:

#1 – I searched for none of the things I was being served ads for.
#2 – KSFY placed the ad link on their web site, and they generally have the ability to say to the vendor they’re using “No naughty ads.”

  4. I know for a fact that KDLT does not serve any ads on its site form outside parties including Google Ad Choice. Your computer is being attacked with those ads. I would remove your post you have a Trojan computer issue.

    1. I’m not unwilling to consider that possibility, and will run scans in all three of the programs I use for anti-spam and anti-virus. But I also have to note that I haven’t seen anything like that on any of the dozen or so of other web sites I’ve visited in the last few days.

Update…. And Good god – this is without a doubt one of the toughest things I’ve had to ever try to get rid of, short of blowing away the computer, which is a complete pain. It’s not recognized as Malware, because it’s adware, and has no software identifiable as installing it which can be uninstalled. It’s buried in the registry & at least at this point, I have it blocked.

  5. Start with TDSSKILLER for trojans, then run Emisoft Emergency kit. Then download Spybot SD, they have a feature to immunize your computer…
