Aberdeen, S.D. – Katie Washnok, 37, of Aberdeen, proudly announces her candidacy for the South Dakota Senate representing District 3. Washnok enters the race with a promise to bring a new voice, fresh perspective, and tangible results to the people of the greater Aberdeen area.

A lifelong South Dakotan and proven community leader, Washnok has built a strong record of service through her work in local organizations, business leadership, and civic engagement. Her years of community involvement have provided her with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing District 3 residents, from agriculture and education to workforce development and economic growth.

Aberdeen and Northeastern South Dakota are ready for growth; we need leaders who are ready and able to advocate and make sure we are a priority in Pierre,” said Washnok. “I am focused on real results:infrastructure, more jobs, and opportunities that keep families right here in South Dakota. Its time for less talk and more action, Aberdeen!

      1. I see Katie with her hard work cruising to the nomination this time. Carl needs to be retired at the ballot box if he does not do so voluntarily.

  1. I would love to swap out businesswoman Katie for crazy Carl. He has spent too much time being a tool for the far right.

  2. Carl is well informed as he attends many meetings and events to get input on various subjects. Katie lost us when she said she has been asked by ” thousands of people” if she is running. Nutty thing to say.

    1. The fact that she declared in November is no different than when she did it in September in 2024. She can’t gather signatures until January regardless.

Remember, two years ago, she was the chair of the Brown County GOP so at the same time she’s campaigning, she had a lot on her plate that year besides just her campaign. This time around all she will need to focus on is her campaign only. Side note, let’s see how the Brown County GOP Chair Rich Hilgeman will handle this in 2026. I expect we’ll see primaries for seats in 1,3,and 23.

The one thing she needs to focus on is getting her people out to vote on June 2nd which clearly didn’t happen during the 2024 campaign.

      1. Brown County GOP Chair Rich Hilgeman who also works for at Toby Doeden owned Town and Country Lumber and also works on Toby’s campaign? Serious conflict of interests there?

        1. Conflict? Sounds more like small town South Dakota, people happen to work for other people and get to know them and then support them when they run for office. Not everything is a conspiracy…

    2. Asst Leader Perry is a legislative juggernaut. The train is running, better get on board. He’d make a great Lt Gov for any of the candidates.

      1. Hey Carl, thanks for commenting. Do us all (mostly yourself) a favor, and just don’t run! lol
You won becasue voter turn out was focking terrible in ’24 – you have to know with any increase in voter turnout, you don’t go back to Pierre. Just choose to stay home – its time for someone who actually does something other than take free pens and awkward photo ops
