American Petroleum Institute issues statement expressing disappointment on Gov. Rhoden signing HB 1052 anti-pipeline measure

From my mailbox, the American Petroleum Institute released the following statement regarding Gov. Larry Rhoden signing HB 1052 into law yesterday.

“The American Petroleum Institute is disappointed by the signing of HB1052. This law could have negative implications for future infrastructure projects in which eminent domain has always been used as a last resort,” said Mike Karbo, Midwest Regional Director for API.  “Infrastructure is the backbone of commerce with large investments already being made in low-carbon fuel technologies nationwide. Our industry is committed to advancing a lower carbon future while delivering safe, affordable, and reliable energy to meet increasing demand here in the US and worldwide.”

  1. C02 pipeline, part of the Green New Deal scam. Thank you supoorting SD statehouse reps and senators. And thank you Gov. Rhoden for signing the bill.

    1. Kent are you following along? The petroleum institute (you know big oil?) is pointing out the problems this bill is going to have for everyone. Also they point the need for low carbon fuel technologies. I might think carbon capture sounds stupid too, but this state (and Rhoden) has now cut its nose off to spite its face. The consequences of this will be lasting and damaging to our state. It may be one of the most poorly structured bills I have ever seen pass.

      1. Oh please, the supposedly pro-business republicans supporting big oil over farmers’ land rights was so disappointing. The pipeline benefited a few ethanol producers who were leveraging democratic policies. Just ask the legislators in the house pushing this pipleline how much they would benefit financially for their personal farms. I’m sure they’re disappointed they didn’t get to get ahead at the expense of other corn growers who were not getting a trickle down effect, but oh well, they should get voted out, not the legislators and governor ensuring above all, you have a right to your property more so than money grubbing corporations and unethical, self-interested legislators.

        1. Your a fool!! EVERY corn grower across the state will pay the price for the Legislators & Governor caving to the bullies & not doing the right thing!

        2. Ok follow along. Carbon and ethanol is not necessarily big oil. But big oil just weighed in and said this bill is going to hurt ALL infrastructure and pipelines. Pretty much everyone moaned about keystone getting shut down and not coming through and the jobs lost, etc. Now imagine keystone wanting to bother coming back through the state after all this. There’s a very legitimate reason eminent domain exists. I think senator Mehlhaff had a nice bill that was workable for everyone, but whatever. Screw common sense and trying to work towards solutions that benefit all parties. This was about screwing carbon and summit. Never mind the additional consequences. By the way, you guys are acting like they were going to be bulldozing homes and forcing people off their land. This was for EASEMENTS for an underground pipeline that allowed owners full enjoyment of the surface estate. They can plant, graze, anything but build right on top of the easement. This was the craziest, most disingenuous, manipulative thing I’ve ever seen by the anti pipeline people.

          1. Mehlhaff and a few others did the right thing & are still being bullied for it. The group against Summit has bullied & harassed everyone who got in there way & only a small few were strong enough to stand up to them to try & do the right thing. There’s a reason landowners & those who are in favor of the pipeline project are so quiet…they are tired of being bullied.
There has to be something legal that Summit can do against SD to get this pipeline done.
The lies that have been told are crazy! When petitions were being signed against RL21, those signing were lied to…thats the only way it passed. The lies being told when people spoke against the project in Pierre make ones head spin…someone needed to speak up & stop the Anti Pipeline radicals!

          2. So many lies were propagated by these so called conservatives.

I heard there is a PAC being stated called “Good sense people against Hansen, Lems, and Odenbach”. Not sure if that is true. 🤣

  2. Tell me accurately just how much land is being stolen (latest text message from anti-pipeline minions) from landowners.

Tell me accurately how much land will not be used after the pipeline is buried 4 feet below surface.

Tell me how the counties are going to handle losing property taxes because there will be no pipeline property tax revenue coming in.

With out SB 201, so many benefits were flushed down the drain.

    Good job munchkins. (SARCASM INTENDED)

    1. Yes!!! No land being stolen…but landowners being paid very well for the privilege to have the pipeline underground Plus extra for possible crop loss.
ALL of the land would be useful after the line is buried.
The Counties & State will loose Millions of dollars …not to mention the losses felt by all the corn growers across the state!
That oposition group with their out of state paid protester & in state protestors hurt SD far more than anyone is willing to admit.
The legislators & the Governor caved to the bullies!!

      1. Rhoden has lost my support. This was obvious caving to the extremists after supporting sb201 last year. By the way, he should understand that he won’t win the extremists vote anyway. Jackley has been wining and dining those people all session. This is a black eye that didn’t need to happen. Over easements. Dumbest thing I think I’ve ever seen rational people buy into.

    1. Far more landowners for the project are in the route line than those who are radically against it. The radical opposition group is back by the Sierra club, an out of state Anti any pipeline Attorney & other anti Farmer groups. Very few in the oposition group are actual farmers. Even the all to perfect sir in the front pew at church Radke lies about being “A Farmer & Rancher”

  4. Low carbon.

    Big oil.

Hmmm, using MAGA math we somehow think we can burn all kinds of oil but somehow, through a miracle perhaps, we can pump that carbon back into the ground.

    Makes sense!

    Moar oil!!! MAGA!!!
