Argus Leader scolds Sioux Falls City Councilwoman Theresa Stehly for grandstanding and antics.

From the Argus tonight, the Argus Leader expresses that they’re tired of Sioux Falls City Councilwoman Theresa Stehley for her unstatesmanlike antics:

Stehly’s scorched-earth approach to confronting council business works against her “voice of the people” bona fides. Her actions – and the ensuing defensive posture of other members against them – hinders the ability of the group to operate effectively.

And…

Stehly’s tactics in the ensuing years have leaned increasingly toward grandstanding. It has diminished her ability to be that voice of the people because, more and more, she is simply the voice of Theresa Stehly, guilty of the bullying behavior she has accused others of in the past.

With only a year remaining in her term, we hope that she will regain that people’s voice and work to rebuild various bridges that have been set ablaze.

Sounds as if the community is weary of the drama that Stehly has continually tried to dredge up. Could make for an interesting election year in 2020.

  1. Argus shows its leftist stripes again with that whopper “voice of the people” line. I sat through more than a few meetings during the pool debate in the 90’s that launched her faux political career. She was just as much a narcissist grandstanding blowhard then as she is now. The only difference is she’s worse at hiding it.

  2. Spot on! About time she got called out by the media for her caustic behavior. Not that she cares. One would have to have a sense of self-awareness for that.

  3. You can only “go to war” in local politics so many times before the public realizes you’re just crying wolf to get attention for yourself.

Hopefully Sioux Falls voters realize this next May when she has to defend her record and her methods. It will be a very interesting election.

  4. I’m ready to write a check. Saying she’s toxic and destructive is an understatement. She bully’s, grandstands, diminishes, intimidates, tears people down and has potential to get the city sued. I will support anyone who runs against her.

    1. Bullies, grandstands, diminishes, intimidates, and tears people down. Hmmmm. Sound like anybody else we know?

  5. “In order to be able to think you have to risk being offensive”, Dr. Jordan Peterson. That’s how you solve problems. When you have a problem and are talking about something important, there is going to be conflict. Is’t that what freedom of speech is all about, being disrespectful at times. Nobody likes discomfort, they want to be safe and coddled. SD, is becoming a safe place state. Come people, quite being so sensitive. Where’s your resiliency. Just my viewpoint….I see nothing wrong, other than CNN, oops I mean the Argus getting their feeling hurt.

    1. JP makes some valid points, however, if you want to know what his real intentions may be, Tara, you should check out Vox Day’s perspective. Vox (Theodore Robert Beale) has written a book, ‘Jordanetics’, it’s very interesting. He also has a YT channel, ‘Darkstream’, check it out, it’s worth your time. I never miss an episode!

  6. You can’t be an effective leader by tearing people down in a public forum they way she did Mrs Nelson. It says slot about Stahley’s ability to lead. She can’t. Being a public advocate and a effective council member are different. They had a vote, 6 counselors consented to that vote. Stanley had her day and she lost.
Stahley needs to be voted out. She doesn’t in my opinion have the chill set or temperament to be a effective leader.

    1. How effective do you think Mrs. Nelson will be in a leadership position when we hear how emotional her reaction was when questioned about her qualifications and how there may be a conflict of interest?

    2. Theresa does not let feelings and emotions interfere with the city business. Can you quote any personal attacks that you are alleging she made?

  7. Apparently Stehly doesn’t understand when she’s “lost” on an issue. She made a Facebook post today doubling down on her losing position, reiterating all of the same tired points about Ms. Nelson she had made before.

She said the Argus was attacking her for being “too vocal.” This is a pretty common strategy of hers. She tries to make it look like she is speaking from conviction and that people that disagree with her are trying to silence her from speaking the truth. When in reality, people are just tired of her unique and ineffective brand of scorched-earth, can-do-no-wrong, never-give-up politics.

    1. Check out her fb page……Kelly Moore…. Keep up the great work Theresa! Every government entity needs someone who speaks up and brings concerns and conflicts of interest to the forefront. Think Gear-up in Platte. Strong audit processes by employees with NO familial ties to the departments being audited is a no-brainer and are crucial to neutral audits. It’s still not a neutral unbiased audit if someone who reports to her conducts the audit.

  8. I’m a bleeding heart liberal, I disagree with Theresa’s point of view on many things. Yet, I think she truly seeks to inform and serve the public. I think she’s honest. I respect her tenacity and transparency.

  9. Theresa isn’t a snowflake, she is an iceberg for the people of Sioux Falls.

    1. So, what you’re saying is that 2/3 of her is hidden from view, and destructive if you approach her too closely?

  10. We will find out the next election, now quit blocking me, Mr. freedom of speech. lol

    1. Unlike Ms. Stehly, who is notorious for blocking people on Facebook that disagree with her methods, Pat promotes the freedom of speech and open discussion of ideas.

      1. Maybe Theresa blocks when people get personal instead of sticking to the issues.

  11. Tara didn’t your mother teach you it’s rude to use third person language when speaking of someone in your presence? You’ve got this Tara.
Sioux Falls is a big growing city and always in the news though not always good news. These inner city gov spats are amusing to the rest of the State; nothing more. In smaller cities they would be coffee time fodder.
In Ms. Hubbel’s honor we should ask the “Price is Right” host Drew Carey to change the “Spay & Neuter” message to “Vaccinate your Children”! 🥵

    1. Don’t ask questions. You must Obey and Consume.
The programming worked well on you, Charlie.

    2. It’s not rude when your are stating an opinion. She is waking up Sioux Fall just like Trump is waking up America. They are both outsiders.
