AG Marty Jackley is getting lots of visibility announcing a series of fraud investigations involving state employees. He is getting loads of much needed visibility as a 2026 gubernatorial candidate.
By my count, there are now four separate fraud investigations involving six different state employees. Sounds like there has been a complete breakdown in oversight and internal controls.
So, who has been responsible for managing state government for the past decade or two? Perhaps Jackley, Noem and a few other Republican leaders? How about the legislature?
All this fraud is a result of one party rule in South Dakota unfortunately.
Must be why it’s been so scarce compared to.. I don’t know… EVERY State ran by Democrats with an exception of….. none of them…..
Tribal blindness contributes to the problem. It is not about party. It is a lack of checks and balances. You need a strong competitive environment for better government. A prime opposition party does not have to be the Democratic Party but could be a non fringe party completely independent of the other. EB-5, Gear Up and many many more scandals that have resulted from a broken political system in South Dakota.
Mr. Jackley mentioned in his latest press conference his legislative package that did not fully pass that would have helped in situations like this. What were the bills? he mentioned SB27 – which is a sex offender registry (not state employee stuff). curious is anyone knows what the consumer protection bills or whistleblower bills were, that did not pass or were highly amended?
Very smart and probably underrated post.
AG Jackley is sure motivated all the sudden. This last scandal is hardly worth flying to Sioux Falls and holding a presser? Obviously he is playing to the electorate. No two people have spent as much time and political influence than Jackley and his buddy Schoenbeck. It’s good he is cleaning up the mess he’s been a part of for so many years.
Jackley needs to start investigating and prosecuting all those state employees who take 25 minute breaks to walk around the lake every day. That’s as bad as flying to Sioux Falls to record a video on the state plane. No more walking around the lake, people. Jackley has a stopwatch on you. Run.
Every department in the state encourages their employees to take two 15 minute breaks to go take a walk. The ones who don’t — Oh wait, they literally all do otherwise their staff would be a bunch of walking cardboard… I mean, where the hell else do you expect them to walk?
I think we do enough overtime to justify having bloodflow to our feet once every four hours, fool.
You want Government employees to perform like the private sector but want to give them the full-on Communist treatment? You go ahead living your life eating your cake while having it too. Must be nice.
I am eating my gravy taters while having them too, Mr. A. What grudznick is saying is that your little saunter that lasts just 1 second more than your union’s negotiated 15 minutes is just as much a theft as theft of taxpayer dollars as this woman lying about doing food inspections. Mr. Jackley is going to put a stop watch on your walks and then come for you next.
Just much as theft as a woman actively commiting fraud, eh? Bit of a brain dead take there, Grudz
Wait until Mr. Jackley starts going after those employee union fellows who are getting paid taxpayer cash for their Hilton Rewards points. Mr. Jackley needs to drop the Big Hammer there.
I am just going to make clear that there is no general South Dakota state employee union. Some people in the trades may be represented, but us desk jockeys sure aren’t.
He’s desperate to use anything to get in the news and be relevant.
In the corporate world, the chief financial officer and the chief operating officer would be out the door with this much fraud going on. Who in state government is responsible for operating things properly?
