I was just notified of the posting of the committee assignments in the Senate for the upcoming legislative session, and there’s a few surprises coming from incoming President Pro Tempore Brock Greenfield. In speaking with him, his committee philosophy was based on two primary factors – spreading around the committee positions, and keeping an eye on succession planning.
Here’s how it worked out in the Senate:

I don’t have any information on how the House made choices, but here are committee memberships for that body that were also posted today (update – sorry, I should have noted these would be Speaker Mickelson’s choices. I meant I wasn’t aware if he’d based his choices on any specific criteria as Greenfield did. -pp)

Very interesting information. Thanks for keeping us posted.
I love that new Senate Conservative leaning, good work Brock ! The House picks would have been made by Speaker-elect Mickelson I suspect.
Monroe & Haggar on Tax. AWESOME!!!!
Peters not chairing appropriations?
Wasn’t Peters just voted legislator of the year? Why isn’t she still chair of appropriations?
Not by South Dakotans. By some out of state group
She was elected by people who never worked with her in the SD Legislature.
Brock Greenfield deserves major credit for reforming the chair & vice chair appointments & committee assignments. Deb Peters should be grateful Greenfield is a fair man and did not treat her, Cammack, & the other moderates SD they have treated him in the past.
I agree. I like the idea of Tidemann running the show.
She had it for 4 years. That’s long enough for anyone in any committee.
Two women head the transportation committee. Pretty cool. Wonder what will happen to interstate speed limits now.
Senate commerce will be a scary spokey and dark place. Hide the children.
Not much horsepower on Senate State Affairs… Wonder what the deal is there?
