Johnson Votes for Historic Spending Cuts
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) voted to pass the House budget resolution, kicking off the reconciliation process for the House.
“Insolvency cannot be an option,” said Johnson. “I refuse to stand idly by while our government spends its way into oblivion. Cuts must be made to end systemic waste, fraud, and abuse. Now is the time to put America on the right path.”
What the bill allows the House to do:
- Enhance border security.
- Lock in current tax rates and child tax credit.
- Unleash American energy.
- Identify and make targeted cuts to reduce spending.
Background on House Concurrent Resolution 14:
- Requires at least $1.5 trillion in mandatory savings over 10 years.
- Provides up to $300 billion for border security and defense.
- Provides $4.5 trillion for the Ways and Means Committee to lock in taxes at the current rate.
- According to the Budget Committee, if the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expires:
- Average taxpayers would see a 22% tax hike.
- 40 million families would see their household’s Child Tax Credit cut in half.
- 91% of all taxpayers would see their guaranteed deduction slashed in half.
- Two million family-owned farms would have their Death Tax Exemption cut in half.
- 26 million small businesses would be hit with a 43.4% top tax rate increase.
- Six million jobs will be lost.
- A family of four making $80,610, the median income in the United States, would see a $1,695 tax increase.
- According to the Budget Committee, if the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expires:

Dusty should have also mentioned in his bullet points that $880 billion in cuts would need to be made in Medicaid which represents a shift of costs to the states or reducing payments to places such as nursing home impacting the elderly residents. Bill also increases the debt limit by $4 trillion which no true fiscal conservative would support.
Cuts vs no cuts at all. It’s easy to screech “not fiscally conservative” when you aren’t the one making the choices on how to cut programs. Frankly, attacks like “not fiscal conservative” or calling people you don’t agree with RINOs is becoming meaningless to the point of being laughable and a sign there is no point in having a serious discussion with you.
If your tax cuts increase the deficit such that spending cuts dont cover the difference, you arent being fiscally conservative. You can tapdance all you like, but it is amazing how deficits only seem to matter when Dems hold the White House.
Don’t forget though, this also increases the debt ceiling, meaning all of this talk about reducing the deficit is just pure bluster.
Medicaid in South Dakota will lose about 1.5 billion in funding over 10 years. Thanks for that, Dusty!
Who this affects are 1) all the South Dakota voters who voted to expand Medicaid (this eliminated that expansion) 2) 42,000 new enrollees including low-income or fixed income seniors, disabled individuals, etc.
Will most of us be fine? Probably, just hope your mom or grandma is doing ok especially if she signed up this year and got a little relief. If your counter point is that those newly eligible 40k South Dakotans can just work, then I’d remind you to walk in the steps of Christ first, and second fact check how many of our Medicaid enrollees are getting free handouts.
And remember, these services for the poor and needy, the very ones we should care for, are deemed not as essential to Dusty as the 800 million dollar per year payments for SpaceX. You read that right! We pay Elon in two years more than they want to spend on our citizens in 10. But I guess reusable rockets to Mars maybe do seem more important than aging and disabled people if you don’t care about humanity.
If that’s alright with you, keep supporting Dusty.
Do we know who will they send to Mars? Will it be against their will?
Sounds like the libs are after Dusty again.
The only response you can make right? You don’t agree, you’re a lib? That’s called small-mindedness. Pick up a dictionary and learn some better insults, it keeps it more entertaining.
Let’s be clear: the real agenda is to pander to King Trump and enrich billionaires while sacrificing millions of Americans, including our elderly who deserve care and support. This package devastates farmers, undermines environmental protections, and harms education. It’s outrageous that a leader who promised to uphold funding for police is now actively defunding essential services like the IRS and EPA. We must rise up against these harmful policies that prioritize profit over the well-being of the American people!
How much more sky can fall?
