Dakota News Now: House Minority Leader Jamie Smith preparing to run for Governor

Barry Hulse can stand down. It looks like House Minority Leader Jamie Smith is apparently going to be the Democrat’s latest sacrifice to the altar of state politics, as word is out tonight that he will be Dem’s candidate for Governor:

South Dakota State Representative Jamie Smith (D-Sioux Falls) will make a run at the governorship this year.

Smith, 50, has represented District 15 in the South Dakota State House since 2017. He has served as Minority Leader for Democrats in the State House since 2019.

An Augustana University graduate, Smith currently works as a realtor for Hegg Realtors in Sioux Falls. Prior to that, Smith was an educator and coach in Sioux Falls. He and his wife, Kjerstin, have two sons.

  1. He’s not the right guy or in the right party for SD. But he’s not wrong about Trump’s lewd and erratic comments. Of course, Hillary is a problem that seems to never go away as well.

      1. You better hope that not everyone who voted for cannabis legalization votes against Noem.

        1. They are potheads. Since they have legal access now via the reservations and are able to get their fake scripts by calling a California 24/7 pot doctor for $25.00 they will not be able to get off the couch. Smith a nice guy will get crushed.

          1. So you are saying over 50% of the population of South Dakota “will not be able to get off the couch”? Pretty sharp insight there.

  2. “ And I’m sure we’ll hear more about his appreciation for Hillary Clinton”

Only because Noem and the GOP will bring it up incessantly.

      1. “Democrat votes for Democrat in 2016.” Whoa shocking!

There’s plenty of more current ammo to use against Noem.
