In addition to House Leadership forcing a prison construction project do-over after $50 million had already been spent on the Lincoln County site, there’s another pressure campaign that should come to mind.
It isn’t just Pepperidge Farms that remembers, but so does former State Senator Erin Tobin:
and in case you can’t recall what Erin remembers, here’s just a couple of the facebook posts documenting what the man with a basketball court in his house & who flies a jet between Aberdeen and Pierre was complaining about being luxurious prison overspending by the state:
How far back was Doeden and his PAC actively campaigning with that line of thinking?
That seemed like… about A BILLION dollars ago..
Ironically one of the proposed new prison sites in Aberdeen which is next to the Brown County Landfill but is very close and just down the road from Toby Doeden’s ugly house with the indoor basket ball court.
Anonymous at 7:06… How perfect! Let’s take up a collection to make it happen.
It is insaner than all get up and sideways that the Messrs. Doeden and Hansen are costing the taxpayers of South Dakota $1bbbbbbilion dollars. grudznick blames Mr. Hansen more than Mr. Doeden. Nobody can blame the young Ms. Lems as she is just too dim to understand most of what is happening.
Mr. Hansen, you need to blog back in this issue or you default to a fail and out. The Conservatives with Common Sense are watching and we control your fate.
Actually a large portion of the prison (maybe half) is not paid for with tax dollars. None of the $150 million this year is tax payer money.
The original source of the booty squirrelled away for the prison does not matter, be it Washington DC Biden Bucks or forfeited by some weed-toking drug lord in Manilla. It is now in the state’s coffers and belongs to the taxpayers, indeed. The legislatures have said so and they must choose how to spend it.
A huge part of the extra $1bbbbbbillion dollars Ms. Lems and Mr. Hansen have now cost us will most assuredly come directly out of taxpayers’ purses.
Is Mr. Jensen a Trump fan? Cuz that’s exactly how he would do things.
Also maybe we shouldn’t have some of the most strict cannabis laws in the country. Mandatory minimum sentences for simple possession of concentrates that are legal in nearly half the country is ridiculous.
Toby Doeden in his latest video posted talked about how the legislature gets nothing done and that he will bring DOGE to South Dakota. His Dakota First Action endorsed, bought and paid for legislators are the worst as far as wasting precious time and taxpayer money while in session. They are not fiscal conservatives! The prison is just one example.
Good point. Maybe it’s not Schaefbauer, Manhart, Jordan, et al’s fault they are so worthless because they are only doing what their puppet monster is telling them. People from that region will get out to vote against Doeden and will need to make sure to vote against his puppets as well.
Thank you for your brevity. If you wouldn’t mind, I’ll add Auch, Heinemann, May, Mullaly, Nolz, Odenbach, Soye, Aylward, Garcia, Gosch, Hughes, Ismay, Phil, Kayser, Jorgenson, Moore, Novstrup, Overweg, Rice, Schwans, Hansen, Odenbach, Overweg. The only ones in the back row who have courage are Bahmuller and Jamison. Everyone else folded like a cheap suit.
Jamison and Bahmuller were on the right side of this issue. They weren’t for much else. Both are disappointing.
This list is accurate and complete. All of these must go if want South Dakota to prosper. These are the worst representation we have ever had in our state.
Jack Kohlbeck? Common sense kind of guy.

In a race to 35% this will get wild.
Rhoden already has it. People are tired of careers like Johnson and tired of radicals like Doeden. Hansen crippled his chances the moment he chose his campaign manager, and Jackley is smarter than to run against Rhoden. If Jackley was Governor, Rhoden wouldn’t run either. They seem to get along well sharing West River.
Who is Hansen’s campaign manager?
Was the Jackley for congress thing real? That’s a great idea.
Don’t know if you’ve been watching or listening to Rhoden lately, but it is becoming clear that he is slipping. He is not as sharp as he was by a long stretch. He can’t get through five minutes of speaking without struggling and reading directly from the prompter or notes. I like him, but it’s getting bad. If we called it out for Biden, we should call it out here.
Example of where/when he used a teleprompter please.
Sorry, the last two times I’ve seen him speak it’s directly from notes. I mean directly. And he struggled to read them. Bit embarrassing actually and I felt bad for him. Not what I had become accustomed too.
Just the fact that somebody thinks a new prison is about keeping the inmates comfortable and not about the safety of the people who work there tells you that he is not competent to be Governor.
A Governor has an obligation to provide safe and secure working conditions for the state employees. If a candidate doesn’t understand that, he is unfit for office
Interlock systems are marxist!
Well, first, let’s stop giving Kevin Jensen credit for opposing the prison; for the past three years, he has been a rubber stamp. However, on the new $2B prison, 50% of our entire state’s operating budget for 1,400 beds, yeah, that is going to be a no from me, Dawg, Toby or not.
Well….if you don’t like the $2B price tag — how are you going to feel about the federal lawsuits for inhumane conditions….that’ll be another lovely cha-ching thanks to the Doeden dum-dums
They are currently in a highly overpopulated, century and a half old facility. What would you propose instead?
Toby Doeden said he would lock up drug dealers and throw away the key. That is going to be expensive Tobes. Did Tobes ever consider and think things through how his “biggest” Video Lottery Casino, liquor store, Tobacco and other intoxicant establishment in Aberdeen also grows government, destroys families, communities and increases suffering? An isolated staged photo op with giving away a sack of groceries to each car prior to his exploratory run for congress won’t cut it bud.
Toby Doeden for SD. Not the sharpest tool in the tool shed.
Toby is more akin to a rusty old chain saw. But without the charm.
Shouldn’t he be call Tuby Doughboy. Loud mouth, hot topic champion, Darh Vader wannabe used car salesman?
Anybody else watching the press conferences in Louisiana about the jail break? Lots of talk about infrastructure, repairs, how they yanked a sliding door off the track, and how this now represents a threat to public safety.
Very cool. It costs a lot of money to lock up dangerous people
His campaign is just a facade to give him visibility. Nothing more, nothing less. He’s going to spend his entire campaign opposing things at face-value to his under educated right-wing audience and bashing his opponents to hide the fact that he has nothing resembling actual progress to offer, just opposition.
His Ziggi’s coffee franchise in Aberdeen barely has any business. He does a good job of driving business away from Doeden owned businesses.
