  1. Dr. Van Etten was an honorable man and a statesman that I had the honor to get to know when we served together in Pierre. Firm in his beliefs and convictions, and fought hard for his constituents and all the people of South Dakota. May he rest in peace.

  2. Sorry to hear that news. I was thinking about Don and Verla just the other day. I echo Mike Jaspers’ thoughts.

Don had a sense of humor, but he also had a very straight-forward no-nonsense approach to legislating. One never had to be concerned with nuance, sub-agendas or mixed messages with Don. Don got to the point and if he had questions, he wasn’t the least bit shy about asking them.

My condolences to the Van Etten family.

  3. Don and I served together for four years in the House. He was a thoughtful and dedicated legislator. He served the South Dakota and the House well. My deepest sympathies and condolences for his family.
