Governor Kristi Noem’s Weekly Column: A Prayer for Our Nation

A Prayer for Our Nation

By: Gov. Kristi Noem
November 1, 2024

For those of you who read my weekly columns, you know that they can take on many forms. They’re often focused on updating you on changing policies or issues that I am focused on. Sometimes they celebrate major events in our state, holidays, or the achievement of something that we’ve been working on for a while.

This week, I want to do something just a bit just a bit different. I want to say a prayer for our state and our nation. If you’ll join me…

Dear God, we come to You in prayer. We thank You for the blessings that You have showered on the state of South Dakota and the United States of America. You have blessed us with greater Freedom and prosperity than any nation has ever known. You have made us one nation, under You, indivisible, built on the principles of liberty and justice for all. And You have helped make South Dakota a shining beacon of Freedom within that nation.

You helped form us as the United States, but this nation has not seemed as united in recent days, weeks, and months. We ask You to bring us together in the values and principles that You have used to make America special: that all men and women are created equal by You; that You endow us with rights including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that You give us free will to make our own decisions; that with that free will comes the personal responsibility to make the right choices for ourselves, our families, and our communities.

Lord, we ask You to strengthen families across our state and nation. Where there is pain, we ask You to bring healing and comfort. Where there are families struggling to make ends meet, we ask You to help them feed their families and keep a roof over their heads – and we ask that You help bring some economic relief to our people. Where there is conflict, whether within families or communities, we ask You to bring Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Where there is war around the globe, we ask You to bring that same peace – and we ask You to help America be the example that can help achieve that peace.

Lord, there is an election just a few days away that will shape our nation for the next several years and far beyond. We ask that Your guiding hand be present in this election and that You bless us with results that will set our state and nation up for success in the years and generations to come.

This great American Republic that You have blessed us with is possible because our people are actively involved in keeping it. Help us to maintain that focus so that we can hand Freedom down to our kids and grandkids.

Thank You again for the blessings you have given us – help us always to thank You and not to take them for-granted.

In Your name we pray – Amen.

  1. Hard to pray for the nation to come together when you travel the nation trying to separate the people. I think you maybe are going about it the wrong way, neighbor.

  2. Nothing to disagree with in the letter but…

Just yesterday, Trump talked about a firing squad for Liz Cheney. And he wants Gen. Milley executed too. Kristi Noem can talk about “liberty” while supporting that?

Stop excusing this crazy stuff. It’s maniacal. Cheney is right… this is how democracy dies.

    1. Oh for Christ sake. When are you going to work on your reading comprehension or are you just being purposefully stupid. That’s not what he said. I defy you to post the qote or the video…THE ENTIRE QUOTE…not just the few words that fit your political narrative. Prove me wrong.

      1. No problem.

Trump on Cheney: “Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, OK?” Trump said. “And let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face.”

He knows what he’s doing. Using the violent imagery of a firing squad couched in foreign policy language. He does this all the time. He knows that when he uses threatening language, they often get death threats. He doesn’t care about her life. He didn’t even care about his own Vice President’s life when he went after him. And yes, he talked of executing General Milley too.

You can pretend that it’s all innocent. It isn’t. It’s disgusting.

      2. (NPR headline from October 22, 2024). Trump has Made More than 100 Threats to Prosecute or Punish Perceived Enemies

Like this one… “ELIZABETH LYNNE CHENEY IS GUILTY OF TREASON,” “RETRUTH IF YOU WANT TELEVISED MILITARY TRIBUNALS.”

        1. First of all as usual, its not the complete statement. Second, Then by your logic, or complete lack thereof, mumbling stumbling Joe call for the assassination of President Trump. Remember, it’s about time we put a bullseye on Trump’s back…three days later some way job that belongs to your group obliged…hmm I bet you have an excuse for that dont you

            1. Vs. 2 actual assassination attempts. Noticed you didn’t try to justify your hypocrisy.

And obviously not as useful of an idiot as you.

              1. I would change the subject too if I were you. Those attempts had NOTHING to do with Harris or Biden. Attempts like that gained sympathy for him so the Democrats hated the fact that they occurred. Obviously.

                1. Oh but using YOUR standards of “logic” joe called for Trumps assassination. I’m not changing the subject you are so you don’t have to look like more of a libturd hypocrit than you already do.

    1. Agreed! I for one have donned the colander on my dome to show my representation! Off to the DMV I go to renew my license!

  3. Match this prayer up with the language she uses to describe the current Democratic nominee. What she says describing the governor of Minnesota. This prayer as a PR/campaign effort requires you to forget her those things have come from the same person now asking for grace.

    1. god has never been very impressed by a “thank You for our enduring greatness, and please improve our wretched opponents” prayer.

  4. Amen. Yeah, no, I don’t think anyone who has been paying attention buys your new found piety. So, does this mean that over the weekend that you and the assortment of Trump lackies will meet in Atlanta and not resort to name calling “stupid”, “dumb”, or insist that “Kamala sucks”? Report back next week on this very site how you reformed yourself, please.

  5. It is not in my theology to believe that God has preferences in political candidates nor that he interferes in the outcomes of elections. God, as he knows all things, knows how we the people are going to vote, and how the election will turn out. To think less, is to depreciate our Creator.
    His will be done.

  6. Lord help and protect us from these charlatans that weaponize religion for profit. power at the expense of others.

An example promoted by the “Chosen One” Trump Bibles $59.99.

  7. so we have one candidate who is backed by the military industrial complex Eisenhower talked about, and CNN had a retired general on talking about how great Harris is and how great the economy will be when the USA has to ramp up munitions production, and we have another candidate half the country despises but he deals with adversaries using business tactics of manipulation and arbitration.
One likes The Art of War, the other likes The Art of the Deal,

but the people with no brains are focused on skin colors, Brown vs Orange.
It’s not Cleveland v Denver, children, it’s War v Peace.

    1. Using the active duty military to attack it’s own citizens? Trials and public shooting squads to deal our generals and political opposition?

        1. Gen Milley marched with trump on DC church when trump held the bible upside down as peaceful protesters were teargassed. Protesters in Portland were ‘arrested’ and transported away by uniformed military with identifiers removed. both instances were heavily and extensively reported. check your google machine.

          1. “Gen Milley marched with trump on DC church when trump held the bible upside down as peaceful protesters were teargassed.” You mean the “peaceful protesters” that were vandalizing said DC church? You really have a skewed definition of peaceful.

“Protesters in Portland were ‘arrested’ and transported away by uniformed military with identifiers removed.” Again, the “peaceful protesters” that were burning and destroying federal property? And those “military” were not military. They were federal law enforcement agents and they never wear identifiers genious.

“check your google machine” Maybe you should work on your reading comprehension.
