Obama’s wife said: “This is the first time I’ve been proud of my country.”
On this 4th of July, I cannot believe that the founders would be proud of this Country. We have a President who is absolutely undermining the strength and vitality of this country every day. We have a Congress that is so bought and paid for by special interest that it won’t protect the Constitution, the economy, the people from tyranny or even the borders. We have a Court system that literally perverts the Constitution and laws. And finally, we have states that are so addicted to the federal black mail that they won’t assert their proper roles in the federal system.
Like Washington at Valley Forge, I believe we all need to pray for our Country this July 4th.
In the early 20th century we had Nazis trying to take over the world. After that, the communists. We had blacks treated horribly before, during and after those periods. Women were second class citizens throughout history. Gays have always been mistreated. Today, things are better on all of these fronts. I am not sure that we need to be so pessimistic.
In America, and around the world, many people are living with a lot more freedom and security than in the past. Do we have problems? Sure. But if you are poor, a woman, black, hispanic or gay, then you might not think we are doing so bad. The vulnerable, like those with pre-existing physical conditions, don’t have to live a life of financial hell. And our elderly rarely have to live in extreme poverty because of Social Security. Crime rates are way down from twenty or thirty years ago as well.
Our government is never going to be perfect but, if you are objective, you may realize that we are still very fortunate to live in the greatest country in the history of the world. Change isn’t always bad.
Actually you are wrong about the status of women. Liberation made our lives worse, the WWII generation had much better lives. Their husbands made enough money to support the whole family, the mothers stayed home, and everybody was happier.
Now women raise children by themselves, work 60 hours a week to support their families, and the kids are home alone.
Anybody who thinks the current arrangement is an improvement is nuts.
Well said, Anne!
We including the voices in our heads would like to wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July! It’s a great time to give thanks for the freedom we have while always looking in the corner of our eye looking for the next plot that could threaten what we fought for.
ISIS on the move. Russia again invading countries again.
US military clergy silenced. Bakers required to bake against their religious beliefs.
Less people participating in the workforce and more people on food stamps.
We are worried about the Dukes of Hazzard and the confederate flag.
God help us.
GO JT!!! 2016!
I’d just like it if JT would do something in his current job, other than paving the way for Obama’s TPP and attorney general. I’m trying to figure what JT has accomplished through collaboration.
Just like the father of our country who had 300 slaves.
Just get John a basketball and a camera for the Fourth.
