I wonder if the election conspiracists are sorry they asked that question?

Yesterday, one of South Dakota’s attorneys were noting the situation they observed over at the Minnehaha County Auditor’s office, regarding Leah Anderson’s mess and offered some gentle comments about it.

Of course, the election wackos challenged it, because Leah Anderson is their girl, and they made the mistake of asking South Dakota lobbyist Drew Duncan what he knows about elections?

As anyone who has been in politics more than 45 minutes is aware, this former member of the South Dakota State Board of Elections actually knows quite a bit:

I’m guessing it didn’t go for SD Canvassing the way they thought it would..

  1. Criticizing Auditor Anderson for taking apart the election and putting it back together again would also criticize someone for working on their own vehicle.

Anderson is South Dakota’s auditor. She now has a much better understanding of the inner workings of her office, and a detailed first hand understanding of the minutia of this election in her county.

It is hilariously ignorant to criticize her for doing her JOB.

    1. Ah it’s already been said, but Leah Anderson is not the state auditor. According to the state auditors website is Rich Sattgast.

    2. Ah it’s already been said, but Leah Anderson is not the state auditor. According to the state auditors website is Rich Sattgast. It’s hilariously to think otherwise.

    3. in every other county in the state, the “job” didn’t involve the huge slow-motion-kobuki theater that minnehaha county has endured under this nubbinhead. for john dale to compare this blown effort to some kind of backyard fixit on an old ford falcon perfectly illustrates the deep problem with his whole perspective on competently run elections.

      1. So I want to ask enquirocrat. You said trump wouldn’t win unless he cheated. So, how did he cheat. Enlighten us.

        1. prove that i ever ever said that. he won because a lot of 2020 biden voters stayed out this time. you have the google. go look it up on your interweb-tubes.

          1. enquirer, 2/27/24 @09:13: “trump’s failed attempts to appear centrist over the past couple of weeks have revealed the huge barrier trump can’t get past to win a fair general election.”

Well golly gee. Sounds pretty synonymous with he can’t win unless he cheats.

          2. ‘He won because a lot of 2020 Biden supporters stayed out this time.’ Yeah , around 16 million of them, right??

            1. Ya, so what. That was a situation Kamala Harris created for herself. Your statement doesn’t address the fact that enquirer said Trump couldn’t win in a fair election, aka cheating, and he did win…enquirer was wrong…again.

              1. I didn’t say he’d cheat. i said he would lose. i didn’t know eleven million democrats were just going to not vote. btw as of today trump has a million fewer votes than his 2020 total. a lot of people on both sides have just stopped caring.

    4. Anderson took apart the vehicle with a sledge hammer and tried putting the metal pieces back together with a glue stick made for a child. It is pretty obvious that Anderson takes her marching orders from Pollema. The only places that ever have election issues is where the “election integrity experts” with the crackpot Canvass Crew have their hands. Here are a few reasons that you are dead wrong in saying that Anderson has “a much better understanding of the inner workings of her office:”

      1) She stated that it takes time to transfer the 8×11 ballots to an optical scan ballot. Which she said there were roughly 1000 of. This can, and should be done BEFORE 7pm on election night. She wasted an exorbant amount of time, money, and resources doing this after 7pm on Tuesday.

      2) She said absentee ballots took too long. Guess which other county had roughly the same number of absentee ballots? Pennington. Guess which other county didn’t have a problem? Pennington. Guess which other county didn’t have the Canvass crew running the show? Pennington. Absentee ballots can start being tabulated Tuesday morning. Anderson didn’t start until late afternoon. She’s the person in charge. This is terrible planning on her part. Former Auditor Litz had 42,000 absentee ballots. He had it done by 10am. And he let his crew go home for a while in the middle of the night.

      3) She said she didn’t have enough staff. Again, she’s in charge. A commission member stated that Anderson didn’t request staff. That is terrible planning on her part. Her crackpot Canvass Crew clearly wasnt up to the task.

      4) She said the vote reporting process slowed them down. She decided not to report partial results but only report them after ever 5 or so percents were fully counted. This was a choice she made. She could have sped up the reporting process but choose to make it slow. Another bad decision.

      5) She said a tabulator jammed and its tally showed 21 fewer votes than it should have for precinct 4-6. This precinct had 685 ballots cast. Regardless of the procedure they went through, 685 ballots out of 95,648 is not going to add hours and hours and hours onto the process.

It is abundantly clear that Anderson wants to put the blame on anything possible outside of herself, her lack of leadership, and terrible planning.

      1. Minnehaha only wishes they had Mohler!!!! She could’ve finished counting in Pennington, drove to SF and would’ve had the counting done in minnehaha faster than Looney Leah.

    5. Well Mr. Dale concerning your weak analogy let me say this. Almost everyone I know that works on their own car always make a bigger mess of things and have to call for help. Quite often they call me and I go bail them out. So to this Shade Tree Mechanic your analogy is hilariously ignorant.

  2. Anderson will use this election to claim the whole system is broken and only she can fix it by being the next Secretary of State. she’s a joke.

  3. Someone tell me how Florida had all of its voted in and counted by what 11pm Tuesday night and here we sit in South Dakota. And dont get me started on Arizona. What a damn joke that state is

  4. Now she’s going to blame the 46day absentee period for all her failings. Let’s not take it out on the voters. Let figure out how to get the work done on Tuesday, not how to get out of the work m. Friggin democrat so far right of center she’s left and skirting work

  5. Federal law requires that absentee ballots be mailed to military and overseas voters no later than 45 days before a federal election. That would be a Saturday, so SD backs up to 46 days (a Friday). SD has chosen since 2013 to be consistent and start absentee voting for all citizens on the same day. It doesn’t seem to be a problem for most counties.

  6. Minnehaha County had a perfectly good auditor in Ben Kyte. He was interviewed and selected by the county commission because he is first and foremost, a competent professional with a history of working in a high pressure, complex financial environment. He was hired to fix what Litz had left in that office, which now pales in comparison to what she has done to that office.

Anderson, after hearing from Jesus (or was that Monae) that she needed to run for this office. She had plenty of right wing support, and the election deniers jumped all over an opportunity that our broken primary process provided an open door.

Kyte was and is about as non-political as it gets, and is a basic fiscal conservative (the kind of person that Republicans used to be). We got what we deserved. Plenty of fighting between her office (and support from outside) and the commission. Sounds kind of like what we’ve been dealing with in Pierre (and in the next session for certain.).
