In a move that a friend called “zimbeckian” after Dave Zimbeck who sent all of his donations back after his loss in the GOP Primary, the Mark Mickelson letter, where he announces his withdrawal from the 2018 GOP Primary for Governor, also notes his return of the nearly million dollars account he raised for that effort.

I think Jackley has a better chance head to head.
Mickelson is a class act.
Dusty is forming a federal campaign account.
Am I the only one that thinks he should have served a day of his second term.
Probably not, but I think he served the public in an important role and Chris Nelson is serving admirably in the PUC.
Win/Win, as far as I’m concerned.
I have been a big fan of Mickelson and frankly this only raises his stock in my book. He has his priorities straight and is not afraid to do what he believes is right for his family.
Next big question: Who will come in and sweep up his support? And will they follow Mickelson if he makes an endorsement?
Noem or Michaels would seem to be the leading contenders…but maybe a dark horse legislator…I agree if Mickelson sends his support to someone it could jump start a campaign quickly.
The sliver lining might be for everyone to take a deep breath (candidates, potential candidates, and supporters). These elections go too long and earlier and earlier we are asked to make commitments (financial and political).
Can’t we at least see how things go this Legislature and how things go in Washington?
Can’t Noem be given enough time to evaluate if she likes working with the new President before committing to Governor? Can’t Jackley spend time doing his AG work, especially through the session? Can’t other potential candidates (likely in the Legislature) have enough time to get to know their new seat mate much less do some business without worrying about running for higher office?
I was surprised Mickelson made the announcement so soon after the election….plenty of time yet…why start so early anyway…then you just have to do a finance report for the year anyway of you started now 🙂
