June 2025 FEC Reports – SDDP out-raises Eschenbaum’s SDGOP by factor of nearly 70x. $48k raised, $37k spent, $74k Cash on hand.

The SDDP had a good month fundraising, according to the Federal Election Commission report they filed this afternoon.

Compared to SDGOP Treasurer Tina Mulally’s last minute $700 pity-donation, bringing the SDGOP to $704.25 reported they raised during the month of May, South Dakota Democrats had a bit better luck. About 68.4x better luck.

For their Federal Account, South Dakota Democrats are reporting $48,139 raised, against $37,413.89 spent, leaving them a respectable $74,177.06 cash on hand.

Remember when SDGOP’s Chairman, Jim Eschenbaum was talking about weeding out the fake Republicans as he called them, and said this:

“We don’t need any more money thrown to the state GOP than what we need to operate.”

(read that here)

I’m kind of thinking he might be regretting that statement and all his weeding about now.  That’s a disparity that the SDGOP’s Central Committee should be noticing.

If they have a problem with it, they only have the people in the mirror to blame. This is what they wanted and this is what they got.

Well.. it was nice being in the majority while it lasted.

  1. Is there a way to measure how much money is sitting on the sidelines because of EXTREMELY important issues that were trivialized by past leadership?

      1. Absolutely. If the past leaders were the problem, then the donors would be donating now. The donors clearly are not donating now, so the past leaders weren’t the problem.

    1. John leadership would like to know if you would be willing to organize a car wash. lemonaid stand or sing on a corner with a donation box with a monkey wearing a porter cap collecting donations for the party?

    2. John Dale, please tell us what the EXTREMELY important issues are, since as usual, nobody can figure out what you are talking about.

    3. Current leadership as a far larger problem for the SDPOG. Frankly they are now prioritizing a lot of trivial issues.

    4. What are these extremely important issues, Mr. Dale?
I can name important issues to previous leaders:
No foreign ownership of Ag land
      Teacher pay
Build a strong economy with low regulations.

This new leadership wants to defund schools, (Phil Jensen)
Track women across state lines for health care (Haugard and Hanson)
and yes pass laws and ordinance to kill economic opportunities. ie Regulations
This is not Reagan Republican conservatism, I guess that’s why those real republicans are being called RINOs.

  2. Exactly what are the procedures for removing the SDGOP chair? Is it something like the SD Dems recently did?

  3. What’s the point of operating if you’re not raising money?
Apparently Eschenbaum didn’t comprehend the job description.
He’s an idiot, not even a useful one.

  4. Seems like the SDGOP doesn’t understand that successful political parties get there by inclusion and addition instead of the subtraction and division model they are currently running. Are they shilling for Doeden?

    1. if they are shilling for Doeden, or Hansen, the money will not be forthcoming. It just won’t. The Big Donors are not going to give money to the party if they are going to endorse anybody in the primary.

  5. If we could get someone to stand on a street corner, play guitar, sing a few songs with a little monkey wearing a porter uniform and cap collecting donations to be donated to the party. Mr. Dale?

  6. The current leadership has no idea how to raise money. As a longtime donor to the party, I got a letter last week from the party asking for money. It was pathetic. They paid first class postage so they didn’t get the savings of sending under a nonprofit postal permit, the envelope was hand written which means they haven’t figured out how to do mass mailings and the message was idiotic. If any other donors got this letter, I am sure it was quickly discarded as fast as mine was. Donors will not give to unprofessional organizations like the one we have at this time. Pat is right- the majority is in jeopardy if the SDGOP doesn’t figure out how to raise dollars. And I’m sorry but having golf outings with 10 people while splitting the proceeds with another organization isn’t going to work.

  7. Looking at the Events calendar of the SDGOP site, every other event listed is “Join Toby Doeden in ….!”
If these events are NOT sponsored/endorsed by the SDGOP, why are they on the event calendar?
Just visiting the site, one gets the impression Doeden has already secured the endorsement of the party.

Then skipping ahead to June 2026, which is what I was looking for, as tickets for next year’s Washington DC VANS WARPED TOUR went on sale yesterday and I wondered about a scheduling conflict, I found the state convention isn’t on the calendar. Interesting.

If they aren’t going to have a convention, that solves the problem of how to pay for one.

    1. I think the SDGOP may not care about the elections. They wield the power over constitutional offices and they will push their misguided agenda through those candidates. Democrats would serve themselves well if they put up old school normal democrats for those offices.

      1. if they don’t have a convention, how will they nominate candidates for constitutional offices?

  8. As a compasinate conservative I find this new version of conservatism to be less than appealing. I wonder how this is going to play out.
