From KELOLAND News, Attorney General Marty Jackley is apparently pulling the trigger on a run for United States Congress:
Jackley told KELOLAND News Friday he is planning to run in 2026 for South Dakota’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Republican Dusty Johnson, of Mitchell, currently occupies the seat which will be open 2026 along with every other seat in the U.S. House.
And..According to Jackley’s latest campaign finance report filed in January, he had more than $500,000 cash on hand.
Who will run for AG?
Jon Hansen.
I’ll nominate Austin Hoffman
SEcond
Nominate whoever you want. Absent a sea change in the delegate pool (pun intended), Hansen would have no trouble securing the nomination at Convention.
He’s running to win governor.
When he doesn’t win the Govs, he will be the odds on favorite for AG.
Austin is one of the best SAs in the state. Unfortunately the McPherson county gop executive board cant stand him, and consequently, because of their disdain for him would convince the other delegates at the state gop convention to oppose him. Those of us who live in the county and actually see how it’s falling apart really do appreciate people like Mr Hoffman for standing firm in his beliefs and conforming to state and federal law as written, not interpreted by by Joe Schmoe.
The McPherson county GOP has reached a level of stupidity that is weapons grade. It actually burns the skin like fire.
Strike “McPherson county”
SA Hoffman is willing to say what the majority is thinking and call the crazy ‘crazy’. He’d be a great AG
Ok but any reasons? What makes him a good choice?
At least he has experience in criminal law.
What business does an adoption attorney have as AG?
Wait this is MAGA country. No credentials required.
I think a few years ago it had been noted that the AG doesn’t have to be an attorney. Just one of those curious features
You might want to look at SDCL 1-11-1.1. The AG is required to be a licensed attorney. What I believe you are talking about is when Chad Haber, husband of Annette Bosworth, because the Libertarian candidate for AG. Which was a pointless endeavor because he wasn’t an attorney.
Tony V.
It’s Lance Russell’s race to lose. He just has to work hard this time.
Who?
Godspeed Marty Jackley!!!
Beginning with Kristi Noem’s historic victory in 2010, South Dakota has been blessed with extraordinarily excellent representation in the US House.
Marty Jackley’s election will only extend and advance that tradition.
Good grief.
OK, I can get more excited about this than him running for Governor. He may clear most of the field in a Congressional race. Leaves the AG race open, and I would look for the convention to nominate some unqualified lunatic for that office, who will then squash anyone the Dems put up. It’s happened before and knowing who’s running the party apparatus, it’s likely to happen again.
The big question now is what will Rhoden do? Go home?
I think this is a good choice for Marty. He will make an excellent candidate and Congressman. I couldn’t be more pleased.
I completely agree. Marty has done a great job for our state and will continue to do so in the future!
A very experienced west river trial lawyer will run for AG.
That’s right. With the lunatics controlling the party it will be quite the election cycle. Will the SDGOP event calendar only have Doeden and whomever Dumpster Diver PAC candidates on it going forward?
Alpha move by Marty.
Rice paper thin strategy everybody saw coming. Let us see what young Mr. Crabtree announces next before we start rubbing Marty’s feet with oils.
His announcement probably won’t “clear the field,” but Jackley is a formidable candidate and will be the odds-on favorite. Even a right-wing conservative will be hard-pressed to challenge Jackley in a primary election. Crabtree is a nice guy, but based on his moderate record and pro-pipeline position, he has no electoral future in South Dakota.
Milquetoast Marty has to start pumping out the MAGA rhetoric. Dusty finally showed his true colors, let’s see what kinda crazy Marty has been keeping locked inside.
Marty has been a public figure and involved in politics since 2006. Having professional relationships with thousands and thousands of people. You think he’s been keeping his crazy hidden and locked inside for nearly 20 years? That’s pretty wild.
Marty will be a great Congressman, and I could see him being a U.S. Senator. Dusty for Governor, Jackley for House, and Rounds for Senate is a 2026 Dream Team.
Does anyone else think the next governors last name will rhyme with Oden?
No.
Yes!
With the SDGOP having gone off the rails, the sanerest should gather in smoke-filled caves and organize its own slate of credible candidates.
Jackley 48%
Crabtree 5%
Venhuizen 5%
Does anyone run against Jackley?
VenHuizen will position and posture but ultimately not run. He won’t want to get absolutely squashed by Jackley.
Casey really can’t back out now. He’s put his effort in.
Casey could still run. Tougher road now, however.
The other Madison guy that should be in the mix is Russ Olson for Dusty’s running mate.
Casey must be pretty upset. He had a lock on this. I still think he runs strong.
Has Dusty announced a run for Governor? Is that Monday’s news?
Assistant U. S. Attorney Megan Poppen SHOULD BE given serious consideration for the South Dakota AG position. She’s got the pedigree, chops, and experience to make an excellent Attorney General for our state. Hard prosecutorial experience with major crimes should be mandatory for anyone to be seriously considered-pay attention to track records, folks!
Hi Mary!
