Lieutenant Governor Rhoden to Host Trick-or-Treat Festivities at Governor’s Residence

PIERRE, S.D. – Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden and Sandy Rhoden will host the annual trick-or-treat festivities at the Governor’s Residence in Pierre on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. CT.

“Sandy and I don’t usually get very many kids that stop by our ranch out at Union Center, so this will be all treat and no trick for us this year at the Governor’s Residence!” said Rhoden.

On Halloween, Governor Kristi Noem will be attending her son, Booker’s, play-off football game in Hamlin County. Booker is a senior in high school this year.

“I’ve been looking forward to participating in the Governor’s Trick-or-Treat tradition for months, but since Booker is a senior and it’s his last football season, I need to be at this important game,” said Noem. “I’m glad Larry and Sandy can fill in this year. The kids are going to love them… I hear their costumes are incredible!”

Noem asks children and parents across South Dakota to observe the following Halloween safety tips:

  • Trick-or-treat during daylight hours or take a flashlight if going out after dark.
  • Add reflective tape to costumes and trick-or-treat bags.
  • Make sure vision is clear when wearing masks or other head garb.
  • Adults should accompany young children; unaccompanied children should trick-or-treat in groups.
  • Inspect candy before consuming; discard anything suspicious.

    1. Because it is her son’s potentially last football game. Those things should be a priority for any governor or elected official.

Trick-or-treat festivities is a ceremonial, voluntary thing. It’s not in the job description we hired her for so who cares?

      1. Right

        1. Larry and Sandy Rhoden are both awesome. Great people.

        2. I have ZERO problem with Kristi going to the football game.

  1. I know the trick-or-treaters will love seeing them in their costumes. Larry and Sandy are just the best — that’s awesome of them to be so flexible! 😀

    Good luck, Booker!

  2. Good for her. By the way, she DOES live there during the week and many weekends. Her son is a senior in high school. They didn’t want to move him so her husband stays with him. She wants to be at his (maybe) last football game. This is all totally normal and understandable. If you don’t like Kristi that’s fine but let her be a mom just like anybody else.

    1. Y’all are paranoid. It was a simple and accurate observation. She doesn’t live in Pierre. There’s no judgment there. It’s a fact.

      1. The question was asked by Anon 11:56, “Why is the governor not doing these things she wasn’t there for the Easter egg hunt either”. The article explained why Noem wasn’t going to be there . . . her son’s FB game. 11:56 was trying to put a negative spin on our governor, or, they didn’t bother to read the whole article.

  3. I’m a D and I live in Pierre. I’m fine with Governor Noem and husband not doing this herself and I think it’s cool both of the Rhodens are going to do it in her place. Besides, the Governor has a good reason not to be doing it, and we see her a lot around town during the week.
