An eagle-eyed Minnehaha County Central Committee member sent me a text this morning, and asked if I read the bylaw change being proposed by rebellious Minnehaha Central Committee members in a non-sanctioned fake meeting they called?
Because they are going to try to boot out elected officials from being precinct people – Despite no authority in South Dakota Republican Party bylaws giving them the power to do it:
8. VACANCIES:
a) Events Causing Vacancy: The following events shall cause an officer of the MCRCC or a precinct committeeman and committeewoman to forfeit his or her office and the office declared open in occurrence of any of the following: death, resignation, failure of an officer to reside in the county, failure of a precinct committeeman and committeewoman to reside in the precinct, failure to be a registered Republican voter, after taking office of an elected partisan position, or the conviction of a felony.
as Arch Beal would say… Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! What’s this proposed vacancy “after taking office of an elected partisan position?’ It literally proposes stripping elected officials from the leadership of the Minnehaha Republican Central committee, as well as from being precinct committeeman or woman.
Did I mention that this this action bars them from being members of the delegation who select state elected officials at the next state convention? Hmmmm….
So, Rep’s John Hughes & Taylor Rehfeldt as Precinct Committee people? Gone. But, also Sen. Tom Pischke as County Committeeman? Gone as an officer of the MCRCC. Losing that position would also boot him off of the SDGOP executive board, but I don’t know if the people proposing the amendment were smart enough to understand that.
Their bigger problem is contradicting the over-ruling SDGOP bylaws of the parent organization:
Notice how being elected isn’t a trigger for vacancy as a precinct person? It’s the same type of situation that the Yankton County GOP faced when they tried to put a literal price tag on being “a republican in good standing.”
While these rebel Minnehaha GOP try to put in their own qualifications in county bylaws at a fake meeting beyond that which the state party has, they are not compliant with state party bylaws. And they don’t get to do that because the parent body’s bylaws (state GOP) supersedes those of the county. Whether this group of rebellious county committee members like it or not.
They made a long document including a lot of duplication from the SDGOP bylaws so people will skim over it and not read carefully. There are some other deviations from SDGOP traditions that they slipped in there as well. For instance, their proposal would require that the county party only donate to Republican candidates who pass their purity test. Will they be using Eschenbaum’s scorecard to determine which candidates are worthy?
Correction: Eschenbama + Mulally’s scorecard

Why would anyone even write this?
Because they don’t want legislators to weigh in on Statewide candidates at the convention.
Mr Powers, check out the SDGOP’s official events calendar.
It’s all about Toby Doeden. Not one mention of appearances by anybody else.
Strange. He has no record other than giving a little money. He’s EXTREMELY disliked in his hometown (read comments on Aberdeen American News posts), owns casinos (not conservative whatsoever) and the list goes on and on. Very strange relationship indeed. Probably couldn’t find a worse candidate yet they’ve doubled down on supporting him. They should not support until the general.
Are they trying to say that the county GOP bylaws overrule the state GOP bylaws? That would be like the State having to comply with county or even township zoning and ordinances. I better run for the township board, the ultimate authority for all situations!
Just finished checking the SDGOP event page. Did The Hansen/Lemmings campaign motorhome have a breakdown or did they suspend their campaign already? it’s filled with the Doeden campaign motorhome event stops.
it’s totally inappropriate for the state party to be promoting a primary candidate’s events
The Counties of Minnehaha and Brown are far insaner than Pennington ever was, even in the hay days of Mr. Ferebee. And Mr. Ferebee, a close personal friend of my good friend Bill who sells advertising in Rapid City, was one kookoonut.
Another topic: is the GOP chair still a county commissioner?
County chair in butte county is.
One of M’haha’s commissioners is chair of the young republicans.
It seems to grudznick that these fellows in the County of Minnehaha are no longer Republicans. They are not following the Republican rules, therefor they are not Republicans and should be ousted from the State Convention.
it’s interesting that they want to remove Tom Pischke from their county central committee and from his position on the state executive board, and that they consulted him about the legitimacy of calling the meeting and he, in turn, got the ok from Chairman Jim.
I mean, he could have just told them “no, you can’t do this.”
This is going to be a popcorn-worthy event..
Circular firing squad” syndrome.
They’re not really interested in defeating Democrats in elections, they’re focused on “purifying” the Republican party in their own self image and every internal disagreement results in apostates who must be purged.
Despite their claims to be the “True Conservatives”, at their core they’re nothing more than authoritarians.
So what did Senator Pischke do that made them want to strip him of his positions as State Committeeman and Region 1 Director??
Serious question.
Rumor is he is going resign from that postion anyways when he annouces for a state wide race next year. He will be the scape goat knowing he has there support at convention.
what convention? They don’t have the money to have a convention.
