More reactions to Rep. Manhart “White Boy Summer” post from the field

The instagram post from State Representative Logan Manhart in which he declared it “White Boy Summer” is literally at the top of everyone’s social media discussions, and continues to bring in reactions from across the internet both in and out of South Dakota.  Here’s some of the reaction from names in politics that you might recognize:

Former State Senator Erin Tobin questions Manahrt’s manhood, and points out that “Any man who claims white boy summer is a major wimpo of a man..”  (Ouch)

A statement attributed to SDGOP Chairman (and former 32-year Democrat) Jim Eschenbaum underlines that if you don’t stand for anything, you’ll fall for everything in his avoidance of actually saying something substantive, noting “that seems really racist” but “the right to free speech is protected.”:

Former Republican State Representative Charlie Hoffman notes that the far-right has a playbook, and it involves race-baiting:

(Hat tip to Austin Hoffman for his facebook post , where you’ll find this excellent discussion)

On a facebook post responding to the story from Manhart, DJ Jazzy Jordan, a.k.a., Manhart’s fellow Freedom Caucus member, State Rep. Dylan Jordan claims that the accusations against Logan Manhart are just not true, ignoring that he keeps kind of saying these things:

Sioux Falls Democrat State Representative Kadyn Wittman weighs in, noting that she believe Manhart is not there for everyone:

Another free dumb caucuser, Rep. Aaaron Aylward throws out something random about abortion, because his toolkit is lacking both pliers and an ability to reason:

And we’ll pause there for the moment to regroup as South Dakotans mostly continue their condemnation.

  1. This is simple folks, call it what is, a short sighted dumb comment that lacks judgement.
If you are a content provider looking for clicks that’s one thing, but as a representative one should exercise greater intellect.
The comment is beneath the dignity of the office, apologize.

    1. yes anonymous at 2:15, abortion is worse tvan slavery. Right up there with the genocide of indigenous populations I’d say.
This white supremacy shit does not belong in South Dakota
That’s why the mural in the Capitol was covered up

    2. Is it though? Yes the Bible condones slavery, but it doesn’t say anything about abortion. The closest it gets is saying that if a pregnant woman is assaulted and the fetus is terminated by the assault the assaulter owes the man who impregnated the woman some money. Its only if the mother carrying the fetus dies that we get the whole “eye for an eye” penalty.

      1. and…the Bible also condones genocide. Joshua was a real pro. He’s supposed to come back; a door is left open and a place set for him at every seder table.

Do the rest of us a favor and STFU

  2. Another bigot representing the South Dakota Republican Party and the chair is defending the bigotry. Let’s see, first we have a Republican statewide candidate saying that there isn’t a rise of antisemitism following the October 7th attack, then we have Nazi’s demonstrating in Pierre during the SDGOP state convention, then we have a Republican county commissioner throwing out slurs against Jews in a public meeting, then we have Logan “Little Lord Fauntleroy” Manhart claiming that he doesn’t want to “die for Israel” and now we have the same idiot legislator standing with the “Black Nazi” campaign manager making statements proclaiming that this is the summer for white supremacy. Way to go South Dakota Republicans! Keep up the good work of destroying the party and helping Democrats get elected.

  3. In the 1930s, Germany spiraled into a dark abyss by embracing a toxic ideology rooted in white supremacy, all while brutally marginalizing the Jewish community, LGBTQ individuals, and gypsy people. Let’s not sugarcoat it; any attempt to dismiss the appalling comments made are merely reflections of cowardice. The author lacks the spine to offer a sincere apology. In my experience, only weak men refuse to own their mistakes, hiding behind pathetic excuses. It’s glaringly obvious where this state representative stands—he embodies ignorance and racism, projecting his shortcomings onto others by accusing Democrats of race-baiting. We are not race-baiting; we are shining a spotlight on the uncomfortable truth of who he is. Quite frankly, he falls far short of what it means to be a man.

  4. Political fringe activist Tara Volesky has been rabidly defending “Dumpster Diver” Logan Manhart and Toby “Dumpster Fire Doeden”.

Great reply by one commenter on ManChild’s page.

    Tiffany Moore Campbell
Tara Batcheller Volesky you don’t think Pat should call out the racist members of his own party? My lord, woman, go back to the dumpster you crawled out of.

    1. Manhart is an embarrassment for South Dakota. The legislature needs to remove him. No room for racists.

  5. The Democrats will not call for his removal because they can use this to attack the entire SDGOP.
Manhart is a cancer which needs to be removed. NOW.

  6. Too late. The cancer has spread throughout the SDGOP and the Republicans Party leadership stands by these people. Eschenbaum, Holien, Mulally, Engelhart, and the rest of the executive board have been silent on all the bigoted statements made by Republican office holders. There are no more adults running the party. Just a bunch of cowards hiding behind their titles as the ship sinks. Weak.

  7. SMH it hasn’t been that long since a legislator was forced to resign from the House for banging his fiancee. His own fiancee, not somebody else’s. They wouldn’t even let him atone for this abomination by paying her father 50 shekels of silver, which is all that is Biblically required. (that’s for you, anonymous at 8:42 AM)
He had to resign, as if the Democrats could get any mileage out of that one.

    Manhart needs to GO.

    1. i mean that’s for you, Robert Drake.
Maybe we should ask Doeden if he will bring that mural back if he’s elected Governor, you know, the one that depicts white settlers trampling the Native Americans.

  8. We seem to have people here who are unfamiliar with South Dakota history and are in need of educatin’
If you just got here from Wisconsin or California you might not even know where Wounded Knee is, much less know what happened there. You might not know that while Rapid City had no written, explicit ordinances, it was once a “sundown town.”
You might not know about the mural at the Capitol which depicted white settlers trampling Native Americans.
Some history needs to be preserved and remembered, so that it will not be repeated.

We should have zero tolerance for this stuff. Zero like -273.15 C tolerance. That kind of zero tolerance.
