Rep.- Elect Reder now trying to walk back resignation text.

From facebook, after this morning’s text message announcing his resignation from the State Legislature, Representative-elect Chris Reder is now walking his statement back:

This might be indicative of how close the vote in the House is as much as anything, as Reder is considered a member of the hard-right and was an attendee of the October rally in Sioux Falls with Mark Robinson.

Stay tuned.

  1. These far right fascists are transactional with using vulnerable people which is too bad. It would not be surprising if they pressure Reder compromising his health and personal challenges even more for their own extreme selfish agendas. Constituents will end up being short changed once again lacking representation. Not surprised..

  2. I bet he thought he was a place-holder for Toby but upon learning his replacement will be chosen by the Governor, he figured he has to stay in.

  3. At what point to do we let the adults back in the room to run things. Because the children are screwing the pooch here

    1. Too many of the so called adults sat on their asses in the primary and may level headed legislators were removed.

Elections have consequences and you reap what you sow.

      Good luck with that.

  4. i hope all of you will join me in praying for Mr. Reder as he faces these challenges. He has a wonderful ministry at his Veterans Ranch. If you have not toured it and had him explain the purpose of the program, you are missing out. We all have big challenges facing us at some point in our lives. The support and prayers of friends, family, and even strangers is so important.

    1. Gail, Chis Reder should concentrate his efforts on his Veteran’s Ranch. He does not need to be a legislator where he will further jeopardize his health. The Governor will appoint his replacement. Chris can continue with his passion helping vets while improving his health. The constituents of District 1 will have a far better chance of being serviced and represented.

  5. To the five oh-so-brave anonymous commenters above Gail’s post… All of the legislators won in free and fair elections, and your slander of voters and Mr. Reder is noted. Now I’m off to the bar to join in a rousing chorus of the “Horst Wessel Song.” We’re all Nazis, don’t ya know.

    1. “We’re all Nazis, don’t ya know.” Is this self pity?

If you attended a rally celebrating a self-described Nazi, what exactly are the rest of us Republicans missing? You’re dragging the party into the gutter celebrating a Nazi and hating everything else.

      1. Cliff’s comment is double satire:

It is satire referencing Kamala, Joe’s, and the whole scam about existential threat to democracy.

It is also satire referencing the GOP establishment’s similar characterization of the anti-establishment.

Cliff, your security as a man and your philosophy comes through. I’m drinking a shot every time the two whacky sides (establishment and anti establishment) try to one up each other in lunacy and am drunk most days by noon.

  6. Wow. This is telling – I feel for him if there are truly health issues going on. Regardless, to put out a statement of stated, definite, intended resignation (20+ people on a group text is not a quiet message among close friends…) and then immediately, within 12 hours, walk back on the entire thing and claim “still unsure”…
I want to feel for him, but this sets off some major red flags.

How exactly would he take stance on policy? Or will he follow his buddies in D3 and just not take a stance, until the vote is over. Or even better, reading closer between the lines, will his stance cycle depending on who’s pushing.

    1. It’s starting to look suspicious with what Carl Perry’s initial responses were. When it comes to political extremists like these, their tactics, choices, behavior, and associations they have shown themselves to be difficult to trust.

  7. The SD GOP was once a congregation of many voices. But, now it is a creaky unkept building being picked over by its royalist faction and confederate faction in a battle to the death while muscle, brains, and heart, sick of both factions, are long gone singing now the last verse of “American Pie”

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I’d heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn’t play
And in the streets, the children screamed
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
    The day the music died
