Scummy lobbyist trying to film Senate caucus? Send Arch out to deal with them.

State Senator Arch Beal is the hero of that chamber tonight when sleazy lobbyist Anthony Miryzants was sticking his phone in the window of the caucus room trying to record it.

Except he made the mistake of doing it where Arch Beal could see it because Arch took command;

Arch was displeased. There were some harsh words. And there was some cane poking.

Arch is the hero of all the legislature right now! 25 people were apparently willing to testify saying Anthony has threatened them etc, my correspondent says she’s “not sure what the South Dakota legislature is more united on; our appreciation for veterans or hate for Anthony.”

If anybody’s interested I think they are taking orders for commemorative T-shirts:

    1. From what I’m told Janet Jensen and Anthony were behind going after Odenbach over ESA’s and Karr over appointing crabtree to commerce.

        1. The same guy whining about how an old man who needs a cane to walk “assaulted” him also regularly spome about going to war to restore America. Lol, what a nerd.

  1. For what it’s worth, photographing and video recording in public buildings is protected by the first amendment, as upheld by countless court rulings. Perhaps it’s a gray area recording a closed meeting through a window in a hallway, where the hallway was still open to the public. Look up first amendment auditors on YouTube, they usually almost always win.

    By the way I’m not defending or condemning his behavior or tactics, I’m only speaking to the legality of the situation.

    1. It’s common knowledge that caucus meetings are private. And if we need a law in the books asking for common decency amongst those who are in the Capitol, I bet we know some people who could make a law.

  2. Arch is the hero we need right now. All one needs to do is spend 30 seconds on this Anthony’s S.M. pages to realize he is an insufferable attention seeker.

  3. That Anthony kid is the perfect example of someone who needs a good a$$ kicking. He’s a little punk with a big mouth and zero common sense.

    1. Absolutely they should. Anthony pulls a lot of dirty tricks. Maybe he envisions himself a political paparazzi? Last year, he tried to secretly record the PUC Commissioners after they specifically asked everyone to clear the room — Anthony left his phone behind to record their private conversation. Very dirty.

  4. It’s time for the normals to stop playing nice and put these people in their place. Good people need to rise up like Arch did and
    make people respect the process like the good old days. Or maybe like adults dealing with spoiled kids. No more Mr. Nice guy. GO ARCH!
