State Democrat PAC attacking Republican candidates has $40k to play with from a Democrat federal PAC

There’s a Political Action Committee that has been running attack ads on Senators Larry Zikmund and Arch Beal that no one really knew much about. But now that they’ve made their campaign finance filing, things are getting clearer.

Starting about a week ago, the Government that Works PAC had ads that have been noticed on Dakota News Now, likely geo-fenced to Sioux Falls.

And nobody really knew anything about it. It’s being run by Dem Activist Zach Nistler, but that was it until today, when we find out that Zach has cash to burn for his attack ads:

The Government that Works PAC has a single source of money. A massive $40,000 donation from the federal WayBackPAC.

Who is the “Way Back PAC?” According to records, it is a decidedly liberal PAC based in Sheridan Wyoming which has almost exclusively donated to Democrat Candidates since inception.

$40,000 from Democrat politicians to run attack ads against Republican candidates is nothing to scoff at. Especially in a year when infighting has crippled fundraising for the GOP to run things like slate mailers, and may things they’ve had to forego due to belt-tightening.

No word on whether anyone else has reported being hit. But keep your eyes peeled, and let me know if you see any more attack ads from the “Government that Works PAC.”

  1. Wait, are we sure this PAC that’s attacking Republicans isn’t ALSO run by Scott Odenbach? 🙂

  2. Well that’s not good for Wheeler, Crabtree and Duhamel. If they lose one they lose it all.

  3. Good, we could use some checks and balances in our state government. I’m shocked at how none of the challengers are noting the bills passed the last session by the incumbents. Why not tell people what they did instead of waiting until three years after it has been enacted, then suddenly claim they have concerns over the prison? It looks very noble of these “lawmakers” to show up at the trench dug for a pipeline saying it isn’t right, but nobody reminds the crowd they voted for this three years prior. When a bunch of what we vote on gets overturned again, just like 2016 and 2020, don’t blame “the dems”, blame the people sitting in the chair. We don’t need all of this ALEC-drafted legislation that gets passed so Zikmund and Beal look good on the Heritage Foundation scorecard at the end of the session.

    1. They should note the bills passed last session and the sessions before with these legislators there to help. Great things were done for this State. Including the biggest tax cut in State history. People remember the bills they don’t like and give no shats about the things that make the state go round…. like elderly, schools, tax cuts, railroads, tuition freeze……good golly.

      1. “there to help”, “great things”….. someone has listened to a few too many political ads. I saw a postcard from one of these groups targeting Larry Zikmund; he sponsored three bills, two of which pertained to license plates and one pertaining to Taiwan. By all means, please show all bills passed, lol. Put all the bills in your two categories above and the rest into a “screw over the citizen’s category”; you’ll see the vast majority land in the screw over the citizen’s category. The funny part is, there should be zero in that category, but as you say “they don’t like to give no shats about that”.

Eldery – what bills improved the eldery lifestyle in SD? Go to a county appraisal appeal hearing and see how many retirees can’t afford to live here due to the tax burden. We just had a retiree in our office leave the state because he can’t afford to live here.
Schools – Are you referring to the meager teacher pay increase, we are still at #49 in the country.
Tax Cuts – Are you referring to the sunset .3% tax cut?
Tuition Freeze – It has to be frozen, or people would go out of state for school. This has nothing to do with the state and everything to do with the business.

  4. If you’re upset about PAC money supporting Democrats, where’s your outrage over the outside funding that’s backing the GOP?

    1. I don’t believe there’s any funding that’s backing the SDGOP — outside or inside, for that matter!

  5. A Liberal PAC from Sheridan, Wyoming?? Please tell us more…..who in Wyoming is funding the Way Back PAC?? It’s existence is a sign the “Times they are a’changin.”

  6. If that young leprechaunish fellow, Mr. Odenbach, drank beer he would better understand the importance of Mr. Beal. Mr. Beal can sit back, appear to be sleeping, and absorb more information in a single meeting of the legislatures than Mr. Odenbach ever could, because he is busy talking and not listening.

Mr. Beal is the kind of swell fellow you want in the legislatures. Mr. Odenbach is a self-serving little guy you don’t want there. You won’t find grudznick’s money in Mr. Odenbach’s slush fund.
