It’s the final day of the 59th Annual Teenage Republican Leadership Camp today, and they were nice enough to send me a picture of my #4 daughter (who is a counselor again this year), along with my #1 son (who is attending as a camper for his next to last year). Obviously, they’re pictured with US Senator Mike Rounds who addressed the assembled group of campers.
If you’re not familiar with TAR camp, it’s a weeklong opportunity for those 12 and older to meet our leaders such as Governor Kristi Noem, Senator John Thune, or Senator Mike Rounds. Congressman Dusty Johnson himself was a product of the TAR program, and led it for many years. Attendees develop their leadership skills, meet fellow future leaders from across the state, learn about campaigns, and have the opportunity to run for office themselves in the organization.
It’s a great leadership program for kids, and if you have young people who want to learn more about the process, it’s never too late.
Coming up later this year, TARS in an early fall weekend retreat focused on grassroots involvement featuring speakers, activities, campaigning for statewide and local candidates in election years and community service projects in non-election years.
